I stocked up on crayons when they were on sale for 20 cents a box for party favors for my two kids birthday (they will be 6 & 8). My dd princess: said "she is old for crayons". :confused3 I thought they would be really cute, I was going to attach a label to match their party themes, etc.

Oh, well. Back to the computer for some more ideas.... :surfweb:

Huh. Not in my class. I teach second grade, and my 7, 8, and 9 year olds are thrilled to get new crayons. The ones who don't bring them the first day are thrilled when I hand them a box, and all of them REALLY enjoy coloring with them, looking at them, lining them up when they're new. That lasts a few weeks, but then I give them all a new box at Christmas and they are thrilled all over again.

I do teach in a low socioeconomic status neighborhood, though, and maybe the kids are just more thrilled because they often don't have schoolish or artsy things at home.

I thought crayons would be a good idea rather than some useless plastic that gets thrown away the next day. The paper goods for the party theme that she likes is online, so I can get the picture off the web site and make some cute labels for the crayons.

I think crayons are actually "OK" as long as I have some "cool" items also. I think she is already a pre-teen. :sad2: She likes the "Cat's Meow" party theme, which is cats wearing sunglasses and party hats.

My dd just turned 8 last month. I dont think she'll ever be too old for crayons. She loves art supplies of any kind! I got crayola crayons at walmart for 10 cents last month. I used them as party favors. They didnt get a huge response, but I'm sure that is because the glow necklaces were more fun while watching a movie!

Too old for crayons? She better not tell my daughter who will be a Junior in college! She and her roommates love to get care packages in the mail with new crayons and coloring books! :rotfl: (They also like sticker books and paper dolls! :thumbsup2 )

My 12yo DD also loves crayons, they were needed for school again this year ;) She loves art and I'm sure that is part of it but I think 8yo is still when most kids enjoy them too.

LOL, I'm going to be a senior in college and I like getting all kinds of art supplies.

I even got the twistable crayons with erasers, and then my old roomies had to go copy me. :teeth:

ummm. . . TallyLassie . . . are we twins?

Tallahassee gal, here, too.
I'm hosting my DS's 2nd birthday party in a few weeks. It's basically a get-together with 4 or 5 other families with kids of varying ages. The toddler-aged favors are pretty easy, but I'm trying to figure out what to do for the older kids that are coming -- ages 4 to 12.
so . . . thanks for posting the thread. :)

wdwgirl103 - what are twistable crayons? they sound really cool.

Are party favors like party bags that the guest take home at the end of the party?

My dd gets hair clips, bouncy balls and some sweets to take home when she goes to a friends party.

We just had a back to school party. DD and most of the attendees are almost 9, some were as young as 5, and one was 11.

They seemed to enjoy getting their crayons. :)

As for DD - she asks for new crayons on her Christmas list each year - the biggest box she can find.

Oh please..I"m a teen, and I color with crayons..but I prefer markers..

My almost 8 year old still uses them.

P.S. Office Depot had Markers on sale for 25 cents each starting today. GREAT DEAL and would make Great favors. :artist:

That is a good deal. I am trying to think of party favors that will not end up in the trash the next day, but not tooooooo much candy.
