Party Every Day - Updated 8/29/10

After Alice ran through the streets, as we saw earlier, she stayed out for quite a while, and went up to the fish & chips shop to place an order. We heard a British guy say – “Alice is chatting up the chip chaps!” to his group. :lmao: Loved the phrasing and the beautiful alliteration! :goodvibes

We made our way out of the showcase in search of some friendship. I mean, a Friendship. We decided to head over to MGM since we were not in need of an afternoon break, due to our leisurely late start to the day.

After enjoying a sweating Friendship ride (we did get seats on the back of the ship, so at least we felt a bit of a breeze and got to enjoy the scenery), we grabbed a free cup of water at our fav free water stand to the right of the MGM entrance. We then wandered on back to the Great Movie Ride and took some scenery pics. We were told we couldn’t enter with our water cups and there was a bit of a queue, so we decided to skip the ride (and never actually ended up riding this trip).

Laura and Liz posed with some of their heroes.

We then went back and rode Star Tours – I loved this ride when I was little, even though I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars films. :confused3

Then we went to see some of my heroes, the Muppets! :woohoo: Love that preshow area and the show!

A bit of dancing.

After the Muppet preshow, we met up with our parents for a dinner at Mama Melrose’s. Just as we experienced last year, we had to leave before the actual show because we caught the entire preshow and our ADR time was coming up just a few minutes after we would have been let into the main show. Not too much of a problem since the preshow and preshow area are just as great (if not better than) the main show! :goodvibes

I'll be back to finish up the rest of the night soon!

Mmm that "lovely order of chips" looks so good! Now I have a craving!

Love the atmosphere shots of the UK. This past trip was the first time I explored the area, but it was fairly crowded and I was doing the Kim Possible mission. So although I saw a lot of details, I didn't look up and around as much as I could've.

What a great Alice! I forgot which one it was, but when we passed by Mary Poppins and Alice, and one of them just didn't seem to want to be out with the crowd. It really ruins the image.

Yay for the pic of the key under the mat! I had to show it to my DBF because he didn't believe me at first! Everyone else looked at me funny because I wasn't going straight ahead and went around instead, but maybe someone passing by saw it and will now also know that "secret"!

Great Muppets pics! It was crowded the day I was there, so I couldn't go around exploring. I had to stay in my one spot. It's kind of fun that way though because hopefully every trip, I'll see something new!

Glad you're back to finish this TR!

Great update and pictures, as usual :)

Chocolate Button's are just the yummiest right? Alice looked like she was having as much fun as you guys, did she get her chip order in the end?

Oh an order of chips is a must for every trip! Love Alice! We saw her up to some crazy shenanigans in the store a few years ago. So cute!

Ugh, that boat ride is brutal isn't it?! We did that on our last trip and it was just so hot and gross! ....and long!

Love all your pics of the detail in England and at Muppet Vision!

My brother and I quote the part of the muppets pre show "Ladies and gentlemen, this is unbelievable--the one--the only--MICKEY MOUSE" "na na na na na HELLO welcome to my park"

I'm in the process of adding Seasons 1-3 of Wizards into iTunes, I thought you might appreciate that, its been an all day process but having it on my iPhone will be so worth it!! You watchin Hannah Montana tonight? Silly question of course you are. Thats the one Disney show my brother will not admit to liking and teases me for it--HOWEVER, HES the one all broken up about the current storyline on Suite life, he comes to me at the most random times and goes "BUT when are they gonna get back together?" and since he teases me about GH and other soaps, its pretty fantastic!

I love the UK pavilion! It's got so many great details and there's usually a nice quiet spot to enjoy your chips in the garden in the back. :goodvibes And that Alice was so much fun! We also saw a great Mary Poppins a couple of trips ago who was walking around the garden and talking with kids who happened to be playing there. So cool to see characters get to be in character and interacting with guests! But no fun to see them grumpy!

And I love all the details in the Muppets theater, especially that there actually is a key under the mat! :thumbsup2

The Buttons were delicious (and adorable)! :thumbsup2 Alice was so cute, but I think she was just going up for a chat because we didn't see her come away with any chips - that would have been amazing if she just took a break to eat on the job! :rotfl:

I agree - those chips are a definite must-have World Showcase snack! :thumbsup2 Awesome that they regularly let Alice play around - we'll have to be on the lookout for her again during our next trip!

That boat ride really was brutal. The weather makes such a difference on there - in March, the rides were lovely (even though they were sometimes ridiculously long).

That Muppets preshow is so great - we're always quoting parts of it too! Woot amazing that you have so many Wizards eps on your iPhone! :thumbsup2 I must admit, I've been remiss in watching Hannah Montana lately - I will have to catch up soon! I can't believe your brother won't admit to liking Hannah Montana - it's such a manly show! :lmao:

Following our ride, we checked in with Twitter and learned that the buses were running again, so we made our way out and onto a TTC bus, thinking we might be able to catch Spectro (if luck was with us).

2115.jpg

2117.jpg

The bus was fairly packed (with lots of jerks who were sitting down and screaming to each other over the hundreds of us who were standing between them, and who yelled at Liz to let their child – about 15 years old – back to his seat when he got up of his own volition to talk to someone else in his party across the aisle :headache:), and we thought for a moment that luck really might be with us – as we were approaching the MK area, the driver asked if everyone was going to the MK and if we’d like her to just drop us there. :woohoo: Of course, two people of the 200 or so on the bus were going to the TTC, so we stopped there. Then, and this was very nice of the bus driver, she did take us over to the MK.

We ran into the MK just as Spectro was ending at the beginning of Main Street, so we ran like the maniacs we are through the Emporium and Adventureland to get to the beginning of Spectro at the end of Frontierland.

2125.jpg

2126.jpg

We made it with time to spare, of course! :yay: Our spot was not the greatest, but it was still a great time.

We enjoyed our snacks while taking in a showing of Wishes.

2151.jpg

2152.jpg

Then we made our way out of the MK and got to enjoy the Electrical Water Pageant (Liz’s fav series, besides GH) while waiting on the dock for our boat launch. We were launched back to the Poly without incident and then enjoyed the hammocks and swing on the Poly beach for a bit, before heading back to our room and retiring for the night.

We'll be back next to discuss our lunch with an Imagineer. I'm trying to convince Laura and Liz to author it, as it would be much more entertaining than my account.

Bruschetta is one of those things that I never want to order in a restaurant because I know it's technically something I could make on my own. But then I never actually do make it on my own and then I regret not ordering it!

Haha, if Liz and Laura keep getting their pic by the Kermit with the crowns on, I wonder if someone will see and go, "Oh wait, it's just those girls with the crowns. They do it every time they're here."

I STILL have not made my way to the Main Street Bakery. Every time I see people's pics, there's something new I want to try. I was supposed to get the apple strudel this past trip, but I wasn't hungry when we were leaving. Now I see that they have crumb cake and some chocolate yumminess. Mmmm ...

Excellent update!

Did you know that Mama Melrose was originally supposed to be a Muppets themed restaurant? Lou Mongello did a whole podcast on it...

Great luck with TSM and catching Spectro. I've done that dash through the Emporium to get to Frontierland and it is NOT fun!

Another fab update! I also love the strawberry "smoothies" from Main Street Bakery! A great way to sip your way out of the park at the end of a great day.

Well, I'm not sure if I'll be reading your 9/4 updates before my next trip because I leave on 9/18. I've never tweeted before but if you give any live updates on the DIS boards, I'll be sure to partake!

What fortuitous timing as I was checking my subscriptions! I'm always happy for an Uncle Orville/VBsHustla update.

Also: I HEART this pic. Well done.

Thanks! I took that pic so long ago that I was also admiring it last night, too! I even pointed it out to my dad to congratulate myself as I was posting it, and he claimed that he must have taken it. :lmao:

I always intend to try lots of things from the Main Street Bakery too, but it's so rarely convenient to stop in! In the morning on the way in, you've got to run into the park, and then usually on the way out of the MK, I'm full from other snacks I've picked up inside of the park. I wish it were back in Fantasyland or something so it'd be easier to stop for something mid-day!

I did not know Mama Melrose was supposed to by Muppet themed! That would have been so cool! :thumbsup2 And, gotta love that run through the Emporium to get to a parade! We've even been successful doing it to see Spectro twice in it's entirety - from the very beginning by the firehouse to the very end by Pecos Bill's! :thumbsup2

Aren't those smoothies delicious? :goodvibes Your trip is coming up soon too! :woohoo: I've heard the Beach Club has free Wifi in some spots, so if we have a laptop with us, we'll definitely try to check in here. And if you're so inclined, you can get to our tweets directly by going to www.twitter.com/VBsHustla - you don't need to have a Twitter account to see the tweets.

Great Mama Melrose review. We are eating there for the first time because of the Fantasmic package.

ALSO never interested in the Main Street Bakery ice cream sandwich until now!! I want to go to there.

Mama Melrose seems to get a bad rap, but we've always found the food to be good - I hope you'll like it, too! The Main Street Bakery ice cream sandwich is awesome! It's very messy, but it's a price I'm willing to pay. :thumbsup2

Thats cool that DHS stayed open later due to the buses not running. Not cool that you had to deal with annoying people running all over the place when you were going back to MK.

Love the Main Street Bakery pics, that cookie ice cream sandwich looks yummy :teeth:

It was awesome that MGM stayed open later - it would have been such a nightmare to force everyone out and then have us all waiting for buses that weren't coming. :scared1: And it was even better that we were alerted before the rest of the park crowd so we could get on TSM! :thumbsup2

That ice cream sandwich is awesome! Even the cookies by themselves are great!

An update!

This morning, we left the Poly bright and early only to miss the MK’s opening show by one minute. Boo! However, it turned out that we had arrived early enough to catch a relatively empty Main Street and a rather empty Fantasyland. Of course I couldn’t resist snapping a few pics on our way back.

Our first stop was Peter, which was brilliant, as always. Next, we decided that we most wanted to ride Splash Mountain, so we made our way to the Frontier.

2211.jpg

We had an entire log all to ourselves, and of course insisted on sitting all in the same row. :crowded: We picked the third, as we have found it to be the least likely row to result in a major soaking. However, please note that when there is no one to block you and you sit on a seat that no one has sat on yet that day, you get soaked even in the third row of a Splash log. Who would have thought? :confused3 With that public service announcement out of the way, please enjoy these pics of the interior of Splash that I was able to take as a result of our not sharing a log with any other parties.

We disembarked in Toontown and walked on through to the teacups.

We took a spin (or two or twenty) and were pleased to find Alice and the White Rabbit upon our exit. Don’t we look great still soaked from Splash?

After meeting Alice and the Rabbit, we enjoyed a showing of Philharmagic. It was then time to leave the MK – we had to make a quick stop back at the Poly before heading to MGM for our Lunch with an Imagineer.

2274.jpg

2282.jpg

We’ve arrived (not via monorail)!

2285.jpg

For our lunch, we were told to be at the lobby of the Brown Derby at 11:30 am. I had booked our lunch about 20 days before our trip, but I learned that we could have booked 90 days out (which was the standard for all ADRs at that time). I’m not sure if booking/ details have changed since our lunch, but when I booked, the CM on the phone had no idea what I was asking for, and I kept having to explain why what he was searching for was wrong. Eventually, one of the five or so colleagues he had asked knew what to do, and we were able to get a lunch on the exact day I wanted. I believe it cost around $60 per person for lunch, which I thought wasn’t too bad considering it was a four-course lunch and the cost of the food itself at the Brown Derby is quite a lot.

Anyway, back to that day – we checked in at the desk of the Brown Derby at 11:30 am, and were given these cool nametags. :cool2:
