So in further discussion with my parents, we are looking into one possibility-
My parents (especially my dad) would be quite vulnerable to COVID (he is 84, and has half a lung missing). One thing they were proposing, if things are looking to risky from my dad's point of view come our sailing date- could they use the "cancel for any reason" insurance to get 75% of their fares back, while my wife, kids and I go on the cruise as planned? Or is the insurance an all-party-members-or-nothing kind of deal?
One part that might complicate things- as per the DCL person my mom worked with to schedule the cruise, they put my wife, my youngest, and myself in one state room, and my parents, and my oldest in the other (they are adjoining state rooms, and my oldest son would be in our state room while actually onboard). It sounds like moving a person from one state room to the other pre-cruise is considered a cancellation + rebooking. So could my parents even cancel their portion, while keeping my oldest son in the party? Ultimately, I'll be calling DCL tomorrow to inquire if this is even an option, but thought I'd ask here to see if anyone had any thoughts on the matter.
