So, on the packing front, I'm still torn about a jacket....

My winter coat is a really nice, new, wool coat that I DO NOT want to wear in the parks (let alone carry all day!) and being from Austin, I don't have any other coats. I have a few fleeces in varying degrees of warm...

I have zip-up athletic jackets, vest, scarf, hat, and gloves - do I REALLY need a jacket or will the heavy fleece suffice for cold nights? I'd rather not spend money on something I'm not going to get use out of at home.

Can anyone advise?

That is hard to judge. See BDL's post above. Those of us from the frigid north (okay Ohio isnt really frigid or very far north), will be comfortable in temps that you southerners will be shivering in. Plus, the weather is so unpredictable. I will not bring a coat unless it is supposed to get below 40. I will have a hoodie/fleece and gloves. I think my hands get cold faster than anything else. Those chemical hand warmers are great for that. My DH will be wearing shorts unless it is below 40 and will wear long sleeves but no coat or jacket. He is a delivery driver and his goal every year is to make it until Thanksgiving wearing shorts.

I was there for some of the coldest days of 2010. I actually did throw my winter coat in at the last minute. But I never did wear it. Just too depressing to think of my Disney photos with me wearing the same coat I wear schlepping kids to and from school and to the grocery store. Instead I layered. I had about 4 t-shirts, thermal underwear, my fleece Mickey jacket, scarf, gloves, and topped it all off with hand and footwarmers. And we brought a Mickey blanket to wrap up in too. And I didn't regret it. My nose may be red in my photos........ but I'm happy I wasn't wearing that old coat I've owned for years.

My partner and I went last weekend and it was really good. Nothing really "in your face", but definitely made the film even more immersive. It was definitely worth the $10 I paid.

Me too! I felt like we earned that little piece of heaven last year! (well... except for that 12/11 downpour just as we pulled out of the train station on BTMRR....... That's ok...... I laugh about it now......)

I was in line for the CP with NPH during that downpour!!! And the ponchos were in the car since it was sooooo sunny that morning. The next morning was a little drizzly, but the rest of the week was beautiful.

So did people ditch their spots in line when the rain let loose?

I knew it had rained a bit late afternoon, but sort of forgot about it as the sun went down. Because it was dark I had no idea it was about to let loose. We had rain gear....... all safely tucked in my backpack at my feet. Once the ride was over...... it didn't matter any more. I think we spent over $100 at the Splash Mountain gift shop on new shirts and a towel.

I always told my husband not to do rides at a party. Maybe next time he'll listen to me?

We got in line at 2:30 and it started to pour right before they let us into the theater (maybe 4:30?) and then continued throughout most of the show. A few people did leave. Wimps. Some were more prepared, but there were several drowned rats like us. The lady next to us went looking for ponchos but said everywhere she checked was sold out. We were very jealous of the package people that were sitting under the overhang. I have a picture of NPH with a big drop of rain on it, kinda looks like he is an angel.

Two for me as well but I live in the northeast Philadelphia area and I used to work for Saint Christopher's children's hospital, now I am home planning vacations and raising my new born lol,Disney keeps me sane!

I'm close to Philly, does that count? I grew up in Valley Forge and now live in Berks County. We still go to Philly a lot, my kids LOvE the zoo and hubby and I love the Phillies

I'm praying for a happy medium. 60's-mid 70's. Warm enough to wear what you want. Cool enough so that your clothes aren't sticking to you at the end of the day.

When I was there during the Great Cold Snap of 2010 I was very happy I had my winter jacket with me. And I wasn't going to bring it, but it was freezing cold when we left Michigan and I forgot I had it on, until I was going thru security. But I was very grateful I had it along, or else I would have had to go and buy one somewhere.

This year I have a new, nice winter coat that has many parts to it. A zip out lining that also doubles as a lightweight jacket. So if it looks to be cold I will be bringing that along, even if it means checking a bag to do so. I would rather have it and not need it than not have it and have to shell out $$$ for one.
