I am not doing Atkins or WW at this time. I am doing an herbalife protein shake meal replacement type thing. But as I read about these pans I am becoming very interested in them.

I was thinking about doing some Atkins meals. Like maybe doing 2 meals a day Atkins or a week of Atkins followed by a week of non-Atkins. My question is, would it be worth it?

I was thinking that lowering my carbs in any way would be good. But then I was thinking about how so many people said that the 1st week was the hardest. Would I be putting myself through that again and again? Also I've read mention of ketosis. Obviously I wouldn't be in ketosis if I was going back and forth.

Any help from you Atkins experts?

If you eat two non carb meals a day and do one carb meal --- you would sort of be following another plan called CAD (carbohydrate addicts diet).

If you've been a yo-yo dieter for years or if you can eat a pound of pasta at one sitting, this book may very well be an eye opener. In simple--but never condescending--language, it explains the roots of carbohydrate cravings and teaches you how to normalize your insulin levels to prevent future food binges. Regulated insulin levels in turn help to temper serotonin levels, so food cravings and mood swings are prevented. The authors, both research scientists (one a health psychologist, the other a pathologist), have lost and kept off a total of 200 pounds between them. They've based this book on nearly a decade's worth of research, during which they've helped nearly 80 percent of their patients lose weight and keep it off for at least a year.

I personally would not recommend eating totally Atkins every other week. I think it could really confuse your system.
:D

And you're right about the Ketosis thing. Atkins works because your body is in ketosis - if you eat one regular meal a day, you would probably kick yourself out of ketosis, thus defeating the purpose.

Like wovenwonder said - maybe the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet would work best for you! :)

I'll third that... doing part time Atkins is not going to work AND could very easily cause you to gain weight!!

Yes - Alex is right! (No, I didn't say that with a surprised tone in my voice) ;)

On Atkins, you end up eating a lot of fat. If you are low-carbing, the fat will go right through you. But, if you eat the fatty foods, along with a lot of carbs, then the fat will "stick".

High fat diets are not good for you, unless you eat very low carb with it.

(Did that make any sense?)

I understand what you all are saying about the high fat content. I thought of that myself this morning.

I guess my next question is, would there be a benefit to going low carb without doing Atkins?

I have seen some posts about WW/Low carb. Is it beneficial to eat low carb and low fat? I understand that this does not jive with the Atkins diet.

I did a lot of research yesterday on the internet about Atkins. You Atkins people seem to be having such success! I think I'm going to do 2 weeks of induction starting May 20th and see if I can do this thing.

If you can get through the 2-week Induction, then you can do it!!! The first two weeks are the hardest. Read the book - at least the first 3 chapters - that will get you through Induction. He tells you exactly what to eat and what not to eat during those 2 weeks.

Basically, you can eat meat, cheese, eggs, and 1 salad a day. But, he breaks it down a little more than that in the book.

Make sure you eat "real" condiments, not the low-fat or fat-free ones. They have more sugar in them. So, you'll eat real sour cream, real salad dressing, real butter, etc, etc.
