It was a great house.....however, it didn't have HEAT! We heated with wood stoves. Um, yes....I was a pioneer woman! I also had 2 children and no washer/dryer. Yep, I took 2 kids with me everywhere, including laudrymat, for the 13 years I was married to my ex!!!

This is the light you needed to see!

You lived in a house with no heat?!?! What state was this in? Hopefully not one with real winters.

Thanks for all the well wishes and good thoughts for a new job. DH freaked out as I predicted. It is just bad timing with him not sure what is happening at his job and the trip so close. He is a half empty glass kind of guy anyway. I am a "a half full glass is almost a full glass, so everyhing will be fine" kind of girl. I will be going to Disney with or without him. I think he will feel better about everything next week.

Well, not yet, He's 2. lol But, when I had him... I was kind of relieved that he wasn't born on Dec. 8th, since that it was the death of John Lennon... but then husband went and reminded me that Dec 7th was Pearl Harbor Day. Ohhh well.

I was born the day John Lennon died. Not just Dec 8, but in 1980 and my dad is a huge Beatles fan. But everybody says "hey you're Pearl Harbor baby huh?" given that I live in Hawaii ...

Not to make light of your situation, but when I was laboring, this is how I got laid off. We had a canteen truck come to the shop every weekday. And if you worked there long enough, you could buy stuff on account. 1 morning, the canteen truck guy goes "Ok, Sean. You owe $xx." I said sure but I was a little surprised. It was a Wed and settlement day was always on Fri. So I asked him why I had to settle that day. He said "Well, this is your last day. XXXXX told me that you were laid off."

I found out I was laid off from the canteen truck guy. I found out that the boss tends to take days off on lay-off days. On the plus side, he felt bad about breaking the news to me, that after I settled, he told me I could have whatever I want and he was going to put it on the boss' account.

Love this story. At least you got good cocktail conversation out of it!

Ok now I am feeling guilty. Just talked to DH again. He has agreed to not hit the panic button until the first of the year. Also agreed to go to Disney (still dependent on his job). His request was to choose ADRs at lower priced places so the tip isnt so high. I said I would cancel Ohana for sure. Goodbye bread pudding. The guilt part is that we are staying at Pop. Free dining is for counter service. I paid to upgrade to regular dining. So I know I could downgrade and get that $200 back, which would pay for breakfast and extra snacks or whatever. DH has no clue about this. He thinks free dining was the regular. That was a detail that never got clarified. . Crap. As I type this, I know I am going to switch it. I am keeping Le Cellier though. And maybe Sanaa.

If it helps, here's a spreadsheet I nabbed from someone on the FB group because I wanted to know what I would be spending OOP ... it was good to see the number wasn't as high as I thought it was ... it might help you compare numbers.

ETA: laughter is for the names of the soap opera, not the situation.

In my saga hubby decided it was too much to try to take MIL this trip, Christmas week, late in the game. Instead, shes going to stay with us a few days before, house sit our house (yeah!) and then stay with us a few days after we get back. We will have a big ole Christmas dinner with her on the 23rd, and swap family gifts. That is AWESOME b/c now I dont have to pay to board three dogs and a hamster, or airport parking.

That is great! Changing to 5 people is rough, my friends were thinking about doing that because after we check out of the 2 bedroom our best friend was supposed to come cruising with us, but now isn't, so there's 5 of them for 3 nights instead of 2 groups of 4. He ended up just nabbing a $30/night motel near Universal, but its kind of complicated. They also have the dog boarding fees, which is adding expense to everything. This gives me pause on the idea of having another child, or pets, since we love to travel and it seems that having more than one child things just get a ton more complicated ...

Kroger does fuel points too. Some times you get 4x points, and up to $2 off a gallon. I did this for our trip, they have the cards you can put up to $500 on.

In addition to Target and Kroger, if you don't have any near you, but you do have a Discover Card, you can get 5% cash back on all online shopping from Oct-Dec, so I bought a bunch of Disney Gift Cards and got the cash back already!

Here in NYC we have a company called Puppet Kitchen. They make puppets for various things; Broadway/Off-Broadway shows, TV, Movies, etc. They also do workshops where you make your own puppet. I got us a workshop off of Groupon (or something similar) earlier this year and we finally used it a month or so ago. So I made my BRIGHT pink puppet, gave her a tiara and named her Princess Philomena. I want to put a tutu on her as well. When we were out the weekend after Halloween, I found a tutu in the Halloween section at 1/2 price. It's for a little girl and I can cut it down to fit my puppet.

Yes, we are planning to bring them to Disney. And we hope to get pics of them with the characters as well.

I was ATTEMPTING to tell my parents they needed to stop at the Burger King we were passing so I could use the bathroom, but it came out as "I need to pee on the hamburgers". Remember Burger King's sign as a big hamburger and it makes sense, but is hilarious. And almost 3 decades later they still tell that story....

Just remember, and I tell every parent this, please please please make sure you have all digital media backed up somewhere, somehow. Get your fav digital pics printed and put movies on CD's ..... sadly I know several parents who have 'digital kids' and lost absolutely everything through technology disasters

I wonder if this deal will be on-line because I don't think we have any stores nearby.


Question about the Osborne lights, is there any type of ceremony when they flip the switch? I ask because I made a late lunch/early dinner ADR and wonder if I need to change it to outside when the lights come on?

From what I've read, it gets super super crowded for switch, as in can't move crowded. Not really a big ceremony, they pic a family from the crowd and they get to flick the switch.

Just remember, and I tell every parent this, please please please make sure you have all digital media backed up somewhere, somehow. Get your fav digital pics printed and put movies on CD's ..... sadly I know several parents who have 'digital kids' and lost absolutely everything through technology disasters

I keep the memory cards and double up on flash drives we've lost photos here and there so try to do it as a prevention....

It's complicated in my brain too. I don't want to buy too many, but I don't want to buy too few. And not knowing what souvenirs cost is what is part of my problem. I don't know how much a tshirt will cost me. Or what little trinket I may want from whatever shop. I need to watch my spending on this trip.


That said, I did just order DBF a surprise for the room the day we get there. I called Disney Floral. I'm having a bottle of Asti, the toasting flutes and the Sweet on You box of chocolates delivered. I shouldn't have spent the money but I wanted to show him how much I appreciate going on this trip with him.

Still hoping for something shiny..

I thought about doing that same package.......was it astronomical? How much notice is needed if I wanted to order it for our Dec 9th arrival?

St. Louis! We had a space heater in the bathroom......and wood stoves in the livingroom and our bedroom. We camped out in those two rooms most days in the winter. I don't know how I managed with 2 kids....but that was 9 years ago....seems like a lifetime!
