Part Day at Disneyland - help!

I am flying my husband to LA for his 40th birthday in mid-February. We are staying at a hotel a few blocks from the Staples Centre because we are going to two basketball games. On the the Saturday, we will go to a 12:30 game and then we'd like to go to Disneyland for the late afternoon and evening. The park hours are listed as open until midnight that day. We will likely rent a car for the drive.

We have been to Disneyland for our kids but want to do spend some time there by ourselves. (We also honeymooned at Disneyland 15 years ago).

My question is... does any one have suggestions on the best value for our tickets? We will not get park hoppers. We will likely only 6 hours at the park and I hate to drop $80 each for such a short time. Is there a cheaper place to buy the tickets than at the front gate?

Unfortunately discounted one-day tickets are hard to come by. The only exceptions are for things like convention guests that get special convention tickets that allow park entrance after 4:00 PM, but that is a deal that is worked out between Disney and the convention and they aren't available to the general public.
