Parks? What Parks? We're Here for the FOOD!**PICS!** COMPLETE!

I have been loving your reviews so much that I had to share them with my DH...a huge food and wine fan! Makes us wish the F&W festival was on right now! We hope to try and do the V&A chef's table this October.....thank thank thank you fellow food and wine people! :worship: And thanks again for the review of the Coral Reef event - we are trying to figure out what we want to do this year and plan to add that to the list for sure.

Thanks for reading/posting!:goodvibes

I shared MANY food reviews with my DH as we were choosing where to eat. We had a very limited number of days (therefore meals) and I wanted to make this trip really special -- and it was. Obviously, V&A's was our favorite of the trip, but the next reviewed place comes in a very close second! You'll have to stay to find out where it was!

I have more food & wine booth reviews to come, as well as a couple more TS places!. Glad you liked the review of the F&W event. I wish we could've done more of them... They are soooo worth the $$ and time!

Have a magical trip this fall!:wizard:

love the afternoon tea review, especially the description of the clotted cream....

60% fat - i just want to wallow in it.....

oink grunt snort.

That's the problem.... I DID wallow in it... Complete with sound effects.:scared1:

I made a HOG out of myself at that Tea. I bet our waitress said something to her fellow waitstaff about our "hog-iness." :rolleyes1

But I loved every minute of it!

Thanks for reading!

I didn't know any of this while I was eating this little fat bomb. I have to tell you it was good. Really good. I will never eat it again, though, knowing what I know now. DH agrees... We will stick with regular butter or nothing at all!

Only 60%? You're way better off with the clotted cream, since regular commercial butter contains 80-85% fat.

I'm staying at the GF and was trying to figure out whether or not to do the tea, so it was great to find this review. Thanks!

Wonder if I can convince DH to do the tea? Wonder if they have it while the boys are on their little pirate cruise????? Just looks so.... I don't know- elegant? English?:lmao:

I guess I should have been better at describing what I meant... I know how bad butter is for you, so therefore I would have eaten less of it... I had NO IDEA how much fat was in that little dish... I guess I thought of it more as whipped topping or something (with added air) instead of all fat. I ate A LOT of it!:scared1: think with butter I would have controlled myself better because of the 80% butter fat... Oh well, live and learn, right?:confused3

I absolutely loved this experience. So did DH. He has already said when we go back he wants to do it again! If you go, I KNOW you will enjoy!!:yay:

It was elegant, but not pinkie-lifting-pretentious or anything. It was sort of like playing dress up as a kid. We could pretend to be english for an few moments of an afternoon. It was fun. (I did have the urge to use the word "bloody" for a while after wards though!:lmao: )

Just found your review and I love it....

The afternoon tea looks amazing I bet I would LOVE It... I dont have it in my plan for our May trip though... SIGH.... :(

Loved your review of the GF tea, it sounds lovely. The pate plate looked really good.

I don't really like tea............hence never going to GF tea!!! LOL I'm now thinking that might be a mistake! You and Brenda have really whet my appetite for some tea sandwiches and desserts. I guess I could try a strange unknown kind of tea. It might not be so bad. Maybe next time. The Grand Floridian is a lovely resort to visit.

You do not have to have tea. They have coffees, wines, etc.

OK,

1. I almost died when I saw the Main Course dessert from V&A's.
2. Your and your DH are as cute as two buttons.
3. You should be a food review writer. Your reviews are awesome!!!

We started off the morning with a Segway tour. I won’t go into too many details (This IS food porn!:rolleyes1 ) – but if you have the chance and are so inclined, I highly recommend this experience.

We hadn’t eaten anything up to this point. We had to rush over to EPCOT to be in time for the Segway tour, so we stopped afterwards at Sunshine Seasons for “breakfast” even though it was after 10 am.

Thomas got a croissant sandwich and I got the kids French Toast plate. We used a counter service meal for the sandwich, and I paid cash for the French toast. $4.35

Overall, this was disappointing. The French toast was soggy. The potatoes were cold, the croissant sandwich was good but I didn’t get much of it!

The chocolate milk was good though! We generally love Sunshine Seasons, so this was a sad experience for us. :sad2:

Lunch today was over at MGM. We spent some time looking around and riding the rides then we hit Starring Rolls for lunch.

We split a turkey sandwich, tira misu and a soft drink. We used a counter service here as well.

I have to say, we enjoyed this sandwich. It wasn't too heavy and it was just right to get us through to dinner. The bread was fresh, the meat was fresh, and the dressing on the sandwich wasn't over done. I would eat it again.

Have a great first trip -- I am sure it will be magical.

And, of course, will be the beginnings of a SECOND trip!

YOu don't HAVE to drink tea -- They have all kinds of drink choices! You will love it -- I know we did!

You do not have to have tea. They have coffees, wines, etc.

My thoughts exactly!
Can't wait to read more!
More just before this and more right after!

2. Thanks. I think Thomas is about as pretty as a guy can be. But maybe I am biased?:lovestruc 3. Not so sure about this! I feel like I am typing the same things over and over agian!:dance3:

Flying Fish

Tonight’s dinner was one to remember. On a whim I added this reservation to our dining plans. It originally didn’t make the cut, but we needed a restaurant and we wanted out of the parks so we settled on Flying Fish. The restaurant is a little out of the way at the Boardwalk and there are no firework viewings, no illuminations, and no frills from this eatery. What we DID find that this spot has, is wonderful food with a fun atmosphere and friendly wait staff.

I started off the evening with the Cheese Tasting.

Degustation of Flying Fish Artisanal Cheeses. $15

This tasting was five cheeses, and accompaniments. They included honey comb, raisins on the vine, and fig & almond compote. It was also served with 2 types of bread (no picture – Sorry!).

Cheese 1 – Robbiola Ciabot – This cheese is from Italy and gets its name from the tradition of ripening the cheese in little houses called Ciabot. It is a mixture of sheep and cows milk and ripens for about a month. Once ripe, it is creamy and has an intense flavor.
Cheese 2 – BMF Double Gloucester – This cheese is a traditional English cheddar made in Gloucestershire. It has a bold orange color and sharp flavor.
Cheese 3 – Ubriaco al Borolo – This is a hard cheese made from sheep’s milk. The name translates to drunken in Italian and is so named because the young cheese is soaked in wine and covered with crushed grape skins. It is then allowed to mature for up to 10 months. This cheese was firm and somewhat crumbly but the flavor was good!
Cheese 4 – Cypress Grove Chevre – This American made cheese is produced in Northern California at the Cypress Grove Dairies. This Chevre was FANTASTIC – Creamy, tangy, soft, smooth, ---- just Yumm-O!
Cheese 5 – Echo Mountain Blue Cheese – This cheese is produced in Oregon at the Rogue Creamery. It is aged goat & cow milk and is allowed to age for at least 18 months. This cheese was smooth, tangy, and an excellent blue cheese specimen!

I didn’t do the wine pairing so I can’t say as to what that would have been like, but you can bet next time, I will try it! Overall, this cheese plate was outstanding. I ate the whole thing. I think I might have shared a little bit with Thomas, but not too much!

Thomas started the evening with the crab cake.

Our Signature Flying Fish Café Crisp Jonah Lump Crab Cake $14

The crab cake was served a top of savory vegetable slaw, pea shoots, Roasted Red Peper Coulis, and an Ancho Chili Remoulade.
Leaving out the expletive (that would be a four letter word to all you southerners), Thomas described this dish as “Really Good!” The crab cake was crisp but not greasy at all. It was FULL of crab with very little “cake.” The coulis and remoulade were fantastic also with tangy & sharp flavors that complemented the cake wonderfully!

For our entrees we stuck with a fish theme.

I got the Oak-grilled Wild Alaskan King Salmon. $36

It was served with Rainbow Chard, heirloom beans, potatoes, apple-smoked bacon, and a vermouth-caviar butter sauce.

YUM YUM YUM!! The fish was perfectly cooked, and that butter sauce… Oh. My. God. It was so good. I was back to wanting to lick the plate. The veggies were crisp and perfect.

Thomas got the Citrus/Schezuan Peppercorn-Spiced Yellowfin Tuna Loin. $34

It was served with Bok Choy, Asian mushrooms, little carrots, and a light curried Carrot-Coconut Infusion. Thomas enjoyed this dish, but honestly he liked my salmon dish better. He was expecting more of a schezuan flavor – in other words more hit-you-in-the-mouth kind of experience rather than the subtle flavors on this dish. The curry flavor was very mild and paired well with the fish and vegetables. It was tasty and prepared just the way he likes it (on the rare side). He says he would eat it again, but he’d love to go back to try other things more!

Dessert

Unfortunately, my notes (and lack of photos of menus) limit my ability to properly describe the desserts from this evening. But for your viewing pleasure I have the following.

Trio of Apple Desserts

On the left was an apple muffin with an apple filling on top – sort of like strawberry shortcake, but with apples (?). The middle one was an eggroll type dessert filled with apples and (I think) cranberries. Very tasty. The final one on the right was more like a traditional apple pie.
This dessert was very tasty and I would eat it again. Unless there was dark chocolate on the menu!

Cappuccino Panna Cotta and cookies.

The panna cotta was served in a cappuccino cup (and was cappuccino flavored). It was served with chocolate, vanilla and orange cookies.

Thomas says his dessert was VERY rich and tasted like a cappuccino. Except it was solid. He enjoyed it and would eat it again. He especially likes coffee flavored items so this was a no-brainer.

The total if we paid cash would have been $126 plus tip. We used our Dining plan so we used a total of 4 credits - this is a signature location.

Overall, WE LOVED FLYING FISH. Our server was very busy, but managed to give us personal service and good advice. Bob (our server) even posed for a picture with me!

He also recommended this next shot. If you pose at the back of the restaurant, and have the ferris wheel like thing in the background – you end up with a very cool picture. Bob took it of us. The flash from the camera shows off the different levels and you end up with the effect.

I hate this picture of me, but the background was so cool, I had to include it.

What a fantastic trip report and gastronomically fullfilling food porn!!! Thank you!!

Thanks for sharing your latest reviews. Glad you enjoyed the Segway tour, we did it a couple of years ago and thought it was a lot of fun (though I was terrified of running someone over!)
