Parks Game...taken to the next level??

SAB...I just checked out the trivia game website...and it looks great!!! :)

Only one thing...In the question about the hat size of the Earful Tower, it says Eiffel Tower...other than that it looks and plays great!!

Hey Higgs - where is the trivia website?

SAB- can we all take a look at it?

Thanks for the link Granny - that brought back some great memories for me...

Madonna...SAB PM'd me the website, and I don't have the link where I can post it here...

SAB...could you post the link to the trivia website here?

Thanks for finding that Higgs. It's corrected now.

PM coming your way madonna. I don't think putting it in here would be appropriate.

Wow! I've been busy keeping up with work & the trivia thread itself & you guys/gals have made amazing progress!! Good job to all of you!! :) I'd like to offer any assistance if necessary. I'm not sure what I could do, but I'd like to try. :)

SAB, if you don't mind another set of eyes looking over the web site, could you PM me the site address? Thanks! :)

I have a question about the bios we're sending MrsA. How much detail are we including? Not a huge life story, I imagine, but what guidelines do we have? I'll wait till she gets back from her trip, but can compile mine & send it between now & then.

I had a thought concerning the pics. Higgs, when you talk to the WDW folks (if you haven't already), maybe it would be good to ask if we could use a limited number of pics & give them credit in the book for it (below each photo or in the front or back somewhere). The only thing I can think of is they'd want to see the pics before they're inserted in the book. Then we'd have to decide if we want to pursue it further (deciding how many pics to use, which pics to select, etc.). That's all presuming they'll approve it in the first place.

Higgs;
Here's another thought on the pictures. There are literally hundreds of websites (including mine) that have pictures on them of WDW. Such as this one:
http://thewaltdisneynut.com/ .
Would a disclaimer such as this site has be enough to protect us from Disney's lawyers? Or do you think a book would be treated differently from a website?

Dave...I think a book would be treated differently...a lot of those websites are not-for-profit...and since they aren't making any money--there is no copyright concern

But, since any book would hopefully make a profit...Disney would probably protect the copyright of any images of their property...which is why the unofficial guides have very few pictures, if any....

I don't know this for sure...but that's what I think is the deal...maybe we can use pics on a website...but unless I'm totally wrong, the book may be a different story...

BTW...Dave I love that Walt Disney nut site!!! I had never seen it before...Thanks!! :)

Using pics in a book is diffrent from a web-site. You can make a profit off of a book but not a free website, Disney might want a piece of the money.

We're going to do this for MONEY?? What are you, all named Eisner?? :) :) :) :) :)

OK, so, we need a really good artist. Any volunteers?

I am not in this for any money at all but the fact is, we would have to pay Disney. I don't care if I get any money, I think for all of us this is a labor of love.

Thanks SAB - it looks great!

I am with Distriv - I think we would have to *pay* Disney x amount of dollars to use pics...no different then using like Mickey in your book - I think their resort is copywritten the same way as use of their characters are...

but now on a side - my book for my course that I am taking on travel & tourism has photographs of WDW?!? (but is NOT a Disney book) And I had to pay to take the course, so indirectly someone is making money while using Disney World pictures...?

I can draw - but I would still need to copy from Disney photos to do an illustration?!?

OK...I have some pretty good news!!:)
I got this from Disney....it seems that there is hope for having photos in our book...
Here is the info...please excuse the long post....WDW publicity is being very cool! They gave me access to a lot of general resort info...I'll sift through it, and let you know what I have!

But...here is their guidebook policy...

Walt Disney World Resort welcomes coverage in guidebooks. Media Relations publicists are happy to work with editors and fact-checkers. However, those creating guidebooks must follow the guidelines below.

Guidelines for use of Walt Disney World Resort® images in guidebooks

As you may know, we publish "Birnbaum's Official Guides to Walt Disney World Resort" annually and we typically do not approve the use of Disney characters (animated, fanciful or walk-around) on the cover and inside pages of other guidebooks.

However, other guidebooks may now include, on inside pages, up to 12 Disney-provided images plus one for the cover, subject to the following guidelines and restrictions:

Approval process. All image requests must first be routed through Margaret Adamic, contracts administrator for Disney Publishing Worldwide, 500 South Buena Vista Street, Burbank, Ca. 91521-6305; phone 1-818-569-3128, fax 1-818-569-5900.

Each guidebook request will be handled on a case-by-case basis. So it doesn't conflict with our Official Guides, Disney Publishing Worldwide reserves the right to review final image selections inside and on the guidebook's cover. After successful review, Disney Publishing will provide a permission letter. You understand you shall not have any right to use such selected images or otherwise reference the Walt Disney World® Resort until you receive such permission letter.

Walt Disney World Media Relations maintains a CD of Disney images for guidebook use. Go back to the home page. Click on "Find Your Publicist" to determine the Walt Disney World® Resort publicist for your market. We're happy to discuss text, and steer you to the images that are the "right fit" for you, editorially.

Use of Disney copyrighted characters (photos, artwork or illustrations) is prohibited.

Art that depicts Disney logos or characters is prohibited.

Our copyright notice "© Disney Enterprises, Inc." must accompany each and every Disney image.

Do not use photos or other materials unless provided and approved by Disney.

Walt Disney World is a trademark that is the property of Disney Enterprises, Inc. and is not a geographic location. Walt Disney World® Resort is the correct reference to our properties in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Thus we encourage "Walt Disney World Resort" in guidebook copy.

Used in the book title, "Walt Disney World Resort" cannot be placed in a prominent fashion or in a size type or style to make it stand out more than any other feature on the guidebook's cover.

So we could only use 13 pictures total. Hmmmm, that eliminates all of your "picture" questions, Higgs, and many of SAB's responses. Maybe it would be better to just do the whole thing as a "fan site". Or as Distriv put it, as "a labor of love". Personally, I don't need the promise of profits to get motivated. Kind of like climbing the mountain. Because it's there.

Dave....I'm not sure I totally agree with you...I think the book can still work with minimal pictures....I agree the fan site may be a better sell...but we may still be able to do something with a book..

Higgs - I agree with you 100%...
I mean this book is NOT a book for people who want a guidebook to WDW. It is more for the *been there/done that-going back* crowd such as ourselves...and WE know what the attractions and parks look like...

Here's the kicker...INSTEAD of having pictures of the stuff - We could say - we could show you - but it would be MUCH more fun to find this stuff for yourself....

I could just see all the people standing there now counting the tiles in the Cinderella mosaic or *looking* for the sad clown in IASW...like a follow-up to the book on your next WDW vacation...

I mean - I did this on my honeymoon. I actually took a picture of TofT between the 2 countries in Epcot - 'cause I never noticed before (and now I know why I didnt)...and I had to ask the CM cause I couldn't find the wedding band in HM...

Very good point. Guess I was thinking too conventonal (aka Birnbaum). I was thinking too much about the first- or second-time visitor and not enough about the twentieth-time visitor. Just a shame that we cannot use Higgs' picture questions and SAB's picture answers; I really like those!!

Dave...maybe we can use one or two picture questions and/or answers...we can find a way...

I'm going to be pretty much out of the loop for the weekend...going camping with some friends, and I don't think my wife or my friends would appreciate it if I brought the computer....
:) (Though I would be able to sort through some of the info I got from Disney...more on that later (they gave me access to a media-only site)...they have been really helpful so far...I also requested a WDW media guide today...hopefully it will get here soon...it said it offered a comprehensive history of WDW...that could be a good fact-checking resource :))

Once Labor Day is over...things will be better, and I'll have more time...summer is crazy!! Besides I need a project for the fall and winter, and this is a perfect one :)

Have a great weekend...I'll check in again on Monday...

I quess we could have a picture of the entrance of each park before we talk about them, Thats 4, then we could have a pic of each land in MK, thats 7, and then 1 really tough pic question.
4+7+1=12. That would meet the number limit.
