We are thinking of going to Disneyland and California Adventure from June 4-10. Are there any events that we should know of? What kind of crowds should we expect?

Crowds are generally light on weekdays at that time but weekends still are busy. Events include Grad Nights which are once or twice a week - usually on Thursdays. DL will close early on those nights.

We went about that time this year and were surprised by the crowds. I believe there was a convention on at that time - you can check if one is booked. Also, lots of high schoolers so the parks were rowdy and some of the teens were beyond obnoxious.

Is there anywhere to find out when/if there are grad nights scheduled? Are both parks equally busy on weekends or just DL?

Sounds like end of year school senior days.. and perhaps some weddings...

Really anytime is fun.

June 10th is my daughters birthday so i think it's a wonderful day to go to the park!:goodvibes

June 5th is my daughter's birthday and one of the reasons for this time period choice.

I dunno about events yet... but look at the Anaheim Convention center for their events that are happening there, as that will draw in crowds to Disneyland. The fewer the events there, the less of a crowd Disneyland will have. During the week its not too bad, the ride waits are around 15-20 minutes for major rides such as Indy, but on weekends those times can be 45-60 minutes waits.

The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland 2009 has a list of conventions scheduled at the Anaheim Convention Center. It says The Institute of Food Technologists will be attending June 6-10 with 22,000 attendees. Don't know how many food techs or their families will want to go to DLR.

We are looking at going from June 20-27 so I'd be interested if any grad nights are going on then too.

Thanks to Google here is info on DLR grad night: http://www.grad-nights.com/gradnightcalifornia.htm

This does not really affect the crowds during the day as the kids are only there in the middle of the night. But DL does close early. Not sure what they do with the hours at DCA.

Here is what happened in June 2008: http://www.laughingplace.com/Guide-Cal-DLR2-200806.asp Looks like June 5 was grad night based on park hours. DCA also closed a little early.

Thanks for the link. It looks like there is a grad night the day we arrive (4) and the day we leave (10). Are the grad nights only for local high schools or for any? I'm wondering what the effect on hotels would be.
Thanks,

i actually had my grad nite there, as have my niece and nephew. i think it is only area schools, but i could be wrong. i don't think it has a huge effect on hotels because the kids are bussed in and the bussed back home in the morning.

we're scheduled to be at DLR june 9th - 13th, and i'm hoping crowds will at least be somewhat lighter than they were in mid august of last year. i'm also hoping for some good, solid "june gloom"....i'm tired of being at DL when it's miserably hot, lol!

Thanks,
My personal experience with grad nights is from...cough, cough...1981. The students come in on buses and are guided to the parks and then are not allowed to leave the parks. They are then guided back to their buses and they leave.

Since the students are in the parks all night they have no need of local hotels. Most or all are locals. I would expect the impact on local hotels around DLR to be zero. You will probably not even know it is happening except when they do fireworks in the middle of the night. :)
