Not terribly surprising. They have them at DLR. The doors almost close on thier own. They have some spring to them and with a slight push they will fall shut. The worst problem is it makes it a little tighter getting in. If you have a stroller you really want the front seat. I've seen lots of people struggling to get the strollers on.

Also, according to what we were told on our recent DL trip this month (FWIW), that due to a variety of circumstances, there are too many trams at DL & some of them, already equipped with doors, will be relocated to WDW.

Maybe they are already there........

Last week at AK there was one tram with doors on it. None of the other park trams had doors. They work really easy (push down the handle and pull, door opens, let go of the door, door closes) and I am actually shocked it took this long. Note I do not think the tram I was on was a retrofit, it was very new/clean and the design looked semi-integrated.

That's a good point. I had read a month maybe two ago that some DLR trams were going to WDW.

The previous Timon lot is where DCA is getting Carsland added on. In addition to that they used to run a tram from the edge of this lot, even as it closed and construction commenced. This tram picked up people at a special hole in the fence that is across from hotels and the Anaheim convention center and took them to the Esplande where both park gates are. However while questions about that old entrance pop up now and then no one has reported using it for months. There is also a remote lot being heavily used since the begining of summer whose buses drop of where those trams used to near the gates. So all in all DLR found itself with extra trams. Though the last time I used those trams they didn't have doors like the DLR ones do now.

Thank goodness!

Hopefully this finally puts a stop to that one putz who always thinks "no further boarding" doesn't apply to them!

Unfortunately these door won't really stop that problem, since they don't lock the person in question can still ignore the no further boarding call as they open the door...

Hmmm.... This could be an interesting problem.

With my long as hell legs I usually sit on the edge so I can stick one leg into the step and fit a little more comfortably into the tram.

I've seen a couple of comments saying they're good looking. I don't see how anyone can say that. They definitely look like add-ons and don't match the style of the trams in any way. Hopefully they will at least paint them to match.

I rode on one of the new trams on Saturday. I was with my DH who has very long legs and he was fine with the leg room. Hope that helps a little! :)

"We simply identified an opportunity, and we are moving forward with the implementation," he said

Translation: Some stupid tourists kept jumping off or falling out during the ride, so we eventually gave up and installed "idiot proof" doors

Add to translation:

Lower probability that impatient tourists will sue after jumping on and off while vehicle is in motion:crazy:

Add to translation even more:

We realized that our guests do not know what the phrase "No More Boarding" means, so we now have a physical barrier to separate them from the moving tram.

Surprisingly (or not), the addition of doors (starting at DL first) was due to a guest (amongst four - one was a child) nodding off and falling out of a running tram at DL. The other two adults also fell out trying to grab the first person. All three allegedly sustained injuries and settled with Disney. The child, on the other hand managed to stay on board the tram.

While I do find the situation that may be the cause for doors on the trams to be a combination of silly/cringe-worthy, I see it as a benefit too. If it can prevent an accident, whether :lmao: or , that's a plus.

It will also stop those fools who continually try to board when there are no more seats or "No further boarding" is called.

people were jumping off the trams when they were moving? why would they do that? are they trying to hurt themselves?

MUST-GET-TO-BATHROOM...

I think guests have myriad reasons why they feel the need to leap off moving objects at WDW. Maybe we could just direct them all to the (WED) Peoplemover or Spaceship Earth to get it out of their system:confused3

Test Track, Big Thunder Mountain or even Space Mountain

The cleanup mess would probably cause some downtime but it would be one less person to have to wait behind in the future.
