Parking permit

Sleepy. You weren't at all negative. You stated your opinion and even wished me a magical trip. It's other posters stating that my friends are cheap or that this is somehow causing prices to rise for us all I feel aren't helpful or accurate. Also my post isn't moot as before doc suggested this I hadn't thought of it. Such a fine line I feel, I have room in my villa so they can stay with me and park for free. They don't stay with me and were dishonest cheaters. Would disney make more money if they actually slept in my villa? Also we order our groceries and don't do the dining plan.

I do appreciate your comments, as I try not to appear negative since there are more than enough of those on these forums. Still, what Doc suggested, though "helpful," is still circumventing the system. You're correct in that there is a fine line, but it is nonetheless a defined line. If your friends stay with you, then they are paying for the ability to not pay parking fees (albeit paying more than they would offsite, more than likely). If they do not stay with you, and you list them, regardless of whether you have a car or not, then you are side-stepping the intent of the guidelines no matter how you care to look at the situation. In essence, they are getting a privilege for nothing--the equation has nothing to do with what money you have paid or what you believe to be fair regarding Disney and their pricing policies. If you personally feel that allowing someone to benefit from a perk for which they have not paid is okay, then I won't stand in some sort of judgment in absentia. It's not my role, nor truly that of anyone else. Consequently, you shouldn't expect others to jump on your bandwagon and say, "yes, that's absolutely within the rules" when it isn't.

What you seemed to be asking is if someone agrees with you that perks assigned solely to your party can be passed along to others who do not meet the criteria. Yes, certainly there are those who think it is okay. However, the issue remains is such a practice allowed under existing guidelines? The answer is "no." Whether or not Disney makes more money if your friends stay with you in the villa or whether you buy the dining plan or eat in your room isn't applicable to this discussion at all (if your friends stay with you, then they are on the reservation and can theoretically park at theme parks for free; eating in your room is merely a personal choice). There is an on-going discussion on another thread about the ethical nature of hiring someone who is disabled to be a tour guide for your family when they are actually not part of your family, yet using them to get to the front of the line at rides. Is that doable? Yes. Do people do it? Yes. Is it the right thing to do? No. . .at least not in my mind.

I'm not the righteousness police. I'm not your mother or father. Certainly, this issue isn't important in light of world events, in the face of terrorism, hunger, personal rights we take for granted. Yet, you did ask the original question of whether you could give a parking pass intended just for your family to another who is visiting and not staying onsite. The simple answer is "no." The more complicated answer is one with which only you can live. And I still say, have a magical stay. . .regardless of which option you choose. ;)

Providing a parking pass for a guest of a resort guest on the reservation is NOT "circumventing the system". Providing a parking pass for a day visitor of a resort guest is done at all WDW resorts, including DVC resorts, on a daily basis just by asking the front desk for a pass.

It does get tiresome when the parking police and pool police here on the DVC boards interject their personal bias into what are common allowances by Disney resort CMs every day. When in doubt, ask a CM if you may have a friend visit you at your resort - whether they are on the reservation or not.

If they are on the reservation, everyone should be welcoming them with open arms - even those on this site.

I would disagree since the intent of the OP was to obtain free parking at the parks, not just to park at the resort. I have no issue with anyone getting one to visit someone at the resort. We have done that with my parents in the past.

How about the people who park for free at downtown Disney and then hop onto busses to get to different resorts?

My husband and I are PT Florida residents and often park at DD and for example, take the boat to POR and go over for something to eat and a little walk.

I am sure Disney is happy that we are spending money at their resort. We are not in any way circumventing parking fees. Free theme park parking is included in our PAP. By the same token we have left MK and taken the boat over to eat at the QS at WL. etc. etc.

If the OP stated their intent was to have a guest from off site visit them at their resort you are correct that this is common practice at all Disney resorts. This however is not what the OP stated intent was. The stated intent was to get an offsite friend free parking AT THE THEME PARKS! This no matter how you try to explain it is circumventing the system IMHO.

How about if the Op, who doesn't have a car, invited their guest to the resort then they all decide to drive to a theme park, you'd have on site and off site people in the same car. What then, is privilege granted to the people or the car?

We are visiting in a week and are renting a car while there staying at SSR and going to Univeral for a day. I thought that you still had to pay at the theme parks ($14) if you were staying at a DVC property say SSR. The parking pass was only good at the SSR not at the MK, AK, EP theme parks. Correct me if I am wrong here the free parking was only if you were staying onsite at somewhere other than a DVC property. DVC owner staying onsite still pay was my understanding.

I agree with AmyB. Further, when you do check in at the gate, they will check your ID before giving you a vehicle pass to ensure that the pass matches the person. Beyond that, as mentioned, you will not need your ID for either room check-in or entering the parks. However, as being a DVC member gives you a 10% discount for some restaurants (if you aren't already on some dining plan), you might need to show your member ID to receive that perk. I've had times when I had to produce an ID and other times when they've given me the discount without checking. Have fun! :thumbsup2

Is there a list of the restaurants that give a discount to DVC or should I mention it every where we dine onsite. We are not using any dining plan other than a credit card. Thanks

The parking permit you receive is only good for the resort you are correct. However, all onsite guests are entitled to free parking. you get free parking by showing your KTTW card at the parking booths instead of paying. DVC members staying onsite do not pay for parking. It is however clearly stated that this benefit is not transferable and that they reserve the right to check the identity of people using the KTTW pass to park for free.

What DVC memeber don't get is automatic free parking you have to actually be staying onsite to get it.

Ok so a little more cash in my pocket. Good News there. What does KTTW stand for? Thanks for info by the way.

Just figured it out I think "Keys to the World" is that some sort of placard or your room key? Also do you have info where to find the restaurants that give the discount to DVC members I assume it is those onsite we are paying CC everywhere. Thanks

Member perks, including dining discounts at the theme parks and resorts are available on the DVC Member website. It would be pointless trying to list them here as they can (and do) change frequently.

To the OP, we did precisely what Doc has suggested on a previous trip. We had friends who were joining us for a couple of nights at the end of our vacation so we just booked them into our room from the start. It saved having to mess about with adding them on for the days they were actually physically sleeping in our room and allowed them to have the parking pass so they could visit with us while they were staying elsewhere. I don't see that as circumventing the rules. They were legitimate guests of the resort and had a booking at the resort for the duration. The fact that they chose to stay elsewhere for the first few days of the trip is neither here nor there. As a guest at the resort, they were entitled to enjoy the perks that went with it, whether they were physically sleeping at the resort or not. If adding your guests to your booking won't take you over the room capacity, then add them to your booking and allow them to enjoy all the benefits of an on-site guest.

Your SSR parking permit will get you free parking at the parks as well. Always has for us.

All guests staying at an onsite resort, including DVC members at DVC resorts, get free parking at theme parks. :) As for a list of restaurants, I believe you can find one here: http://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/ However, as this list periodically changes, it wouldn't hurt to ask at each place you dine. Have a great time! :thumbsup2

We had a car at Christmas at AKV and didn't pay for parking at the parks.

We will be dining at two of the restaurants and saving $70 on parking. Thanks for the info saved us some money. Makes a round of golf look like a lock. Woohoo!

You can also ask at the resort for the portable perks info pamphlet to give you the most up to date restaurant discounts. They apparently no longer give you one automatically or that is what I was told on my last visit.
