Parking Pass Dilemma

I have a good idea about the answer but I thougth I'd ask anyways. My DW and I are staying at Pop Century for 5 days while my Dad and Step-Mom will be staying at an off-site time share.

Would be possible (and on the other hand ethical) if I got a parking pass and gave it to them since I won't be needing it seeing as I wont have a vehicle down there? I know it's kind of cheating the system but what's the difference since I don't have a car. What if he picked me up every morning and I drove the car would that make it ok? Don't see why he should pay for parking at the parks since I'm going to be staying on site (and that's one of my perks)

Thanks for the help in advance

Your parking pass has the name of the person that is on the reservation. They do sometimes ask to see your id (although I think I was only asked at resorts not at the parks). Reservations was in my name and I gave my id not sure if hubby was driving but we have the same last name...but if you were in the car...

Not sure how to answer that but I am thinking also a perk is Magical Express well I drove my car so I dont get that perk but I get free parking...

Ethically, this is not a valid solution as they are not guests of the resort. Resort perks are restricted to resort guests and your use or non-use of those perks doesn't meant they can be transferred.

That said, if you registered their car at check-in (under your reservation) or anytime afterwords with the resort and obtained a pass, no one would know the difference.

On my past few trips, they have given me the parking pass as I passed through the guard gate before I checked in, and also checked ID and checked the list of check-ins.

Hmm, looks like you answered your own question when you say you know it's kind of cheating the system. That means you see it as incorrect and unethical. And since you know that it is cheating then actually doing it is fraud.

It is only for guests staying at the resort. Your relatives are not so they are just like all non- resort guests, it's for you and not yours to give away. If it was, then resort guests could give (or worse sell) them to anybody and you can't do that. And in the hotel trade it's considered a courtesy not a perk. This is *a courtesy to those guests with cars not all guests of the resort.

I would definitely get a pass. Their car is going to be your ride to The Parks and you should not have to pay for parking since you are a guest of the resorts. There should not be a difference in park perks, depending on wether or not you are driving your own car , renting, or hitching a ride.

Now, it would be different if you met them each day at The Parks and you took Disney transport and they used the pass without you.

But, I guarenteee you that you will want to be picked up and dropped off as much as possible. Disney transport is great, but having a car is so much easier, IMO...especially if it means that you don't have to coordinate meeting up with others once you get there.

As long as you are in the car, then you are doing nothing wrong by using one your perks as a resort guest (free parking).

As Pollydweller said you already know the answer, now you are just looking for someone else to tell you it's ok to break the rules so you won't feel quilty about doing it.
Why don't you get the car and go pick up your dad and step-mom each morning then everything will be legit and you won't have to deal with a guilty conscience .

Okay guys.....this is really a non-issue. Is it 100% correct to get a parking pass when you don't have a car, but give it to a relative who is staying offsite? Depends. If you hold that parking pass, and they don't use it to get free parking, then fine. BUT...if they hold the pass, then they drive to a park and park for free, and you are on a bus, then yeah, it's a no no.

I would get the parking pass. You can get one at checkin. Then, you can give it to the relatives to put on their dashboard. If it makes you feel better, you can drive to and from the parks. Then if there is a request for ID, you'll be the driver and can show it to them.

This really is no different than someone being in a huge car of people and handing their AP to the driver to show in order to get free parking. You are paying to stay at a resort, you get the perk of free parking. You are in the car, so there should be no issue.

The "Law of Averages" argument. With X parties staying at the resort and Y guests arriving by Disney provided Magical Express there can be expected to be Z cars in the resort lot. If one of the Y group is met by a guest with a car then that upsets the balance and it is therefore unacceptable.

The "Topologically the Same" argument. If I don't have a car and invite over a guest with a car, it's no different than having a rental car or driving all the way down to Disney myself, and getting a parking pass is therefore acceptable.

The "Practical" method. When you have a guest visiting you by car, inquire down at the front desk about how he should park. They may well issue a one day parking pass. Heaven forbid there be a rule that visitors may not be in the room more than 3 hours and you are issued a parking pass reflecting that.

(Do the park toll booth attendants accept showing of a room key (KTTW) in lieu of a windshield parking pass to wave you through after you all leave the resort within 3 hours of your guests' arrival?)
Why don't you get the car and go pick up your dad and step-mom each morning then everything will be legit and you won't have to deal with a guilty conscience .
Oh the horror! Having to shop around for a good rate. Having to go fetch the car. Having to sit through the rental agent's pushing insurances and coverages. Having to drive all the way to your parents' time share to pick them up and then drive all the way back. The rope will have long dropped. Then having to pay for the rental car. Etc.

er

I agree with this. Disney won't care if you're the owner of the car or not. Or even if you're the driver. You're staying on property and you're in a car that is going to a park. You're entitled to the free parking.

If you use Disney transportation though and just give the past to someone not staying on property, that would be wrong.

p.s. I should have read all the responses before I posted. I could have just said "ditto" to the post by goofy4tink.
