We normally street park our car. Now that we have a new car, we decided to rent a spot in the parking garage on the corner of our block for the winter because the car can get pretty damaged from plows, etc. When I rented the spot, I was told that there were enough spots in the actual garage part for those who rent. Contractors who work on all of the building construction in the area park on the roof.

One night we got home around 8pm and there was one spot left before hitting the roof. Several cars take up two spaces, and I am sure they only pay for one. This is a concern to me because there will be times that I work the evening shift and will be home after midnight. I would hate to have to park on the roof and get snowed in when this was the whole purpose of me getting a garage spot.

There are about 7 cars that take up two spots. I am pretty sure they are only paying for one. My husband wants to print out "notices" from youparklikean_______.com and put them on their cars. I do not think that will solve anything. I was thinking of taking photos of the offenders and sending them to the management company and let them deal with it.

What would you do?

Although I giggle at the sign idea, I think you should bring it to management's attention. Why pay for a spot you can't even use? I'd be livid about that.

Let the management company handle it. If the offenders find out it was you that left the notes you may be wishing you took your chances with the plow. ;)

I hate when people take up two spaces. On the other hand I wouldn't do anything. More then likely they have security that does drives through they will see the cars parked in more then one space. They will deal with it

I agree. Let security/mgmt deal with it. (Let them know.) Either they don't want their door "dinged" or they are saving a spot for another car. Either way, if you've paid for a spot, you should be able to get a spot 24/7. If the garage can't guarentee you a spot, then they need to refund your $$ so you can go elsewhere.

I know when I come across this situation and see the "car parked crooked" tactic, it only encourages me to park as close as possible to that car, so much so that they would need to enter their car form the passenger side. I drive a Corolla and am not worried about a ding here or there. Surprisingly, my car has never been messed with. As to your situation, I would take down the license plates and alert management to the situation.

I love the idea of the signs, but I'd be another who'd let management take care of it (much as it would kill me not to leave the signs ;) ).

I hope that management will help address the problem.

On a related note, here is a blog that we enjoy

http://badparking.wordpress.com/

and it features bad parkers. Some of the most recent photos were taken in parking garages.

Write down the license plate numbers of the offending cars (or take picture if you can) and address it with the parking garage management.
