Hello, these boards are great and have been a wealth of knowledge. We will be visiting the Orlando area for a day / night, and will have a car and just want to be able to pop into WDW at different places and times (resort visits, maybe watch the nighttime water parade, etc.). We are not going into any of the parks :( but want to be able to walk along the boardwalk or the walkway from the boardwalk to Hollywood Studios. Or maybe even take a monorail ride:cloud9:

I know we can park at Downtown Disney for free and take the resort buses but is there anywhere else we can park for free?

I'd make a dining reservation at one of the resorts near Magic Kingdom, park there, have a nice evening meal, and watch the water pageant. Then you could ride the monorail around the resort loop.

You can park at a resort to dine and shop, but the total time limit is three hours, which should give you time to do those activities.

Parking for more than three hours, at a resort you are not staying at, is pretty much a no-no. You can pay to valet park and then do whatever you want to do.
You can park behind the Hess Station, right across the street from BW, and then go to BW and check it out and go for your walk. You could even take their bus to MK and take that ride on the monorail.
But, please, do not park in actual guest parking at any resort if you are not staying there, or at least eating there.
I only suggest the lot behind the Hess Station because that is where the security people will have you go when you want to park at BW...and it doesn't impact the resort guests at all.

Or, just go to DTD and take a bus to BW from there and do what you want. Or park at DTD and take the bus to the CR...you can get on the monorail there.
Parking at DTD is really your best bet. Plenty of parking is available there, and closer to the bus stops than at the Hess Station.
