I just read that Disney raised parking to $17 and $20 for valet. That is crazy! I think they need to come out with a weekly parking pass that is cheaper just like the park tickets. The longer you stay the cheaper it gets. We have 5 day tickets and the parking really adds up. :confused3

Although $17 is a lot for parking and can definitely add up, I think it's pretty much in line with parking at other places. Universal also recently increased theirs to $17. When we go to our local amusement park, I think it's $14-15. Parking is just expensive, period.

That is not the point... The point is to make it more attractive to stay on site against staying outside. In effect, you can tack $17 or $20 to the price of your off site room per day...

This. We can't go to a Red Sox game without paying at least $40 for parking! :faint:

Exactly - they will charge as much as they can for parking, because the only people paying that fee are folks spending money outside of WDW already. They want those folks to reconsider that decision.

I don't understand why folks staying off-site don't have a single person in their party get an AP and TiW card. It would pay for itself quickly in savings (parking and dining).

I just never understood the paying for parking. I mean you are spending a ton of money on tickets already not to mention food and souvenirs. Why gouge people with parking as well. Most of these places own the parking lots so let us park there for free. It's really ridiculous!

That's like saying you for don't understand them charging for food since people are spend so much on tickets, parking and souvenirs. Can't Disney throw us a bone and give a free meal with a ticket?

Costs Disney to operate the parking lots too, do you think all those CMs who work there in some capacity work for free? If you read all these parking threads you'll find that most theme parks charge for parking, why would Disney be any different? Besides, if they offered free parking they would just raise ticket prices to make up the difference.

Can you share the saving because I am not sure how that works? We are off site(against my better judgement) and no one has an AP or TiW card because we dont go multiple times annually. How would this help us? Thanks for the info
I am getting 5 day tix from UT for $290 plus parking 5 days which is 17 *5= $375. AP is almost $700 and it seems then its $100 for TiW.

It depends on the size of your party and length of stay. We are a family of 4, and we usually stay for 10-14 days. The TiW card saves us at least $300 each trip on dining. Parking is easy to calculate. But the dining savings really add up if you are a part of a larger group. If they eat with you, the TiW savings will also apply to their meals. Also, if you buy a lot of merchandise, you can save 10% there, too.

It probably would not result in savings for a single family staying for only 5 days.

Got it, no doesnt make sense for us that way.

I know! My husband went to 2 Patriots games last year and parking is $60!!! It's just crazy!!!

Hey fellow New Englanders! And we have the highest average ticket prices for these events as well. Enjoy raising the banner today!

Parking lots cost $$$ to build, maintain and staff. Your park ticket prices do not cover this. I for one, would rather have those off site guests subsidize those costs for us on site people(that may not even need to park a car). The costs need to be covered. Sound like a pretty nice on site benefit for those staying numerous days and have a car. I would prefer they not add another $10 to my park ticket. Plus, I would guess a majority of on site visitors use the buses and Disney transportation. Why should those guests have to pay higher ticket prices so others can park their cars for free. That is just 2 reasons. I can come up with a few more if you like. I can't park on the streets around here without putting $2 in the meter.:headache:

$20 a day to park at Six Flags.

Why not? "Everyone else does it" seems to me a reason that is usually used to excuse something that shouldn't be.

Why would you pull that out of my entire post and cut the rest out, making it look like I implied something I didn't?

Everyone else does it is not an excuse to charge for parking. The costs of running and maintaining the parking lots are, which is mentioned in what you cut out. I mentioned everyone else charging for parking because I don't understand why some people think Disney shouldn't. They have operating costs just like everyone else. I would much rather people who actually use the parking lots take care of that rather than burying the cost in the tickets.

They want to "encourage" you to stay onsite or buy an annual pass. It might be worth it to upgrade one MYW ticket to a annual pass to get the free parking plus merchandise discount.

Almost any kind of entertainment venue charges to park.

THIS! As much as some think parking should be free, I think that onsite visitors have to be allowed certain perks. If you choose to stay offsite, parking is a charge that comes along with it.

I mentioned the increase in parking prices to my husband who exploded. Now, we are annual passholders so it doesn't affect us. We can stay anywhere we want and not pay to park (at this time).

And we have stayed offsite and have driven to the parks. And you want to know what the husband has said whenever we did that? "Disney kicks *butt* with their parking lots!" Yes, exclamation point!

Because they do. with trams and safe walkways before, during and after. Security people up in lifts, and - this is very well known - if you know when you parked your car and then can't find it after the park is closed or whenever you are leaving, Disney can and will drive you up and down the section where your car should have been parked.
