KINDA LONG

Just wanted to share this with everyone. We have to laugh every time we think about how stupid we must have looked.

Background:
On our first cruise we sailed the 3 day December 2001. When we arrived the line to drop off the luggage was really long and the parking lot was very busy and full. We dropped off the luggage and was directed to park in the lot across the street from the terminal.

3/15 cruise:
We arrived early and drove straight up to unload the luggage. The guy at the main gate asked us if we were parking and when we said yes he said that the porter would direct us to where we should park. We unloaded all the luggage for 9 people which took about 10 minutes because half of it was on top of the truck in a luggage carrier. We were all very excited. We drove off and out the gate and headed to the parking lot (or so we thought) When we went to the entrance to the parking lot we could not get in. YIKES! So we drive back down the main road in front of the terminal thinking we missed the entrance. But no luck . The guy at the main gate kept looking at us. We remember that the porter never actualy told us where to park. We ask another guy at the far side of the terminal where do we park? He says back over there pointing. Like we are gona know where he is pointing. So we head over the way he pointed with no luck. All 9 people in the truck are yelling over there no over there. DH is driving and is trying very hard to not get mad on this special day. So we drive to the other guy at the far other side of the terminal and he says pointing back the way we just came from go back over where you came from. DOUBLE YIKES!!! I tell my DH please go back to the main gate and ask the guy that mentioned parking to us the first time. So when we get there the guy is almost rolling on the ground laughing at us. We were laughing right along with him. We thought this whole thing was hillarious. He tells us to drive back through the the luggage unloading line and park in the lot right in front of the terminal. WAHOO! As we were in the line a large woman directing traffic kept yelling at us to pull over so we could unload. We tried twice to tell her we had already unloaded and was just trying to get to the parking. She was very rude. Anyway we got through the line and pulled into the parking lot right in front of the terminal. I think there might have been maybe 10 cars in the lot. We thought you were not aloud to park that close to the ship. Anyway all ended well. What a great way to start our vacation. We will all remember it for a very long time.

So all you first timers headede for the ship. Be sure that the porter tells you where to park.
:D

Funny story.....you are right, you were not allowed to park in the lot next to the terminal for a long time after 9/11. They have since started to let people park there again.

Padre Disney, Great story and hopefully you can answer this question since you had a van...

I have seen pricing at 20.00 a day for a vehicle over 20 feet in length. We will be taking a van down for our large group and wondered what the pricing would be for a 4 day cruise.

How do they determine the length of the vehicle? Our comes out right about the 20 ft so I think we would be OK on the $10 a day.

Just trying to make sure we have take down enough money. Of course we could always plan on the higher price and have extra money but I thought someone might have the answer for us.

Any advice would be great.

Thank

We had our suburban and they only charged us $70 for the week.

One other thing I will remember the next time:
We parked really close to the doors that you depart at with your luggage. We did not know this at the time and had a porter bring out our luggage after the cruise. I think my FIL tipped the porter lots more then he should have. Next time if I get a spot that close to the terminal we will be taking our own luggage out.

We have thought about renting a 15 passenger van for the next cruise but when we noticed they charged double for parking we are thinking twice about the rental. Guess I will have to call and ask how long it is.

Do they get out and measure each large vehicle or do they just have a list of who gets charged double?
