We are headed down to CC next week, and this is the first time we will be renting a car. We have tickets for the MK Christmas Party, and I was wondering how strict the guards are about allowing you to park to shop at BLT? We would go earlier in the day and then just walk over to MK.

It is very unlikely they will allow you to park. For the exact reason of people taking up resort parking and heading off to the parks. Your best bet is to park at T&TC and use Disney transportation to get around.

When we had reservations at CG, we were stopped at the gate, had to give our name and time of the reservation. Saw them turn others away. similar at Riviera.

As previously stated, this is the very reason they have instituted the dining or room reservation requirements at the resorts (which actually started with CR/BLT). They won’t even let a ride share drop you off there without a reservation.

My recommendation is don't even try it. You'll end up having to back track to TTC or back to your resort. I'd take advice that @Sammie offered. The loop holes around MK and the Epcot resorts have all pretty much be closed down.

They are very strict at the Contemporary. Without a Dining reservation there its unlikely that they would let you park there.
And even with one, you'll be limited to 3 hours maximum at the CR.

Cars exceeding that limit can and do get towed, particularly on Christmas Party days. Making a lunch ADR, for example, and planning to shop for an hour or two then walk to MK for the party? Bad idea.

A couple years pre-covid, we saw a man arguing with a tow truck driver that he'd left his car parked at BWI while he went into Epcot "for just a few minutes." The tow truck driver continued prepping the car to be towed.

We used to Uber over to BLT/CR regularly, and I remember the first time the driver said, as we pulled, up, "I'm going to tell the guard you have a lunch reservation and if they ask, say "yes". Not long after that, they started actually asking for names and confirming the reservations really existed.

This I don't understand. I can fully appreciate guards turning away cars that are trying to take advantage of parking at the CR so people can save the parking fees by walking over to MK. But if you're getting dropped off by an Uber/Lyft, what does it matter? Not arguing. Just wanted to know the reason for this when you can do the same thing using the Monorail.

CR isn't designed to be a massive drop-off point for all rideshares heading to the Magic Kingdom. That's what the TTC is for.

Ah! I'm too naive. I was thinking about the people who genuinely wanted to go to the CR to shop or just check out the resort. I wasn't thinking of people being dropped off there only to walk to the MK and bypassing the TTC. Thanks!

The only way you could do this is to valet park and pay the $35. Then you can stay in the lot all day.

Yeah, I think it also has a lot to do with that. The pick up/drop off areas in front of the resorts have definitely gotten busier over the years. I can't imagine them if they let everyone in to just be dropped off or picked up regardless of reason. It's dangerous out there lately! No one looks when they're driving, I swear.

Yeah, the CR drop off area is just too appealing. If you’re taking a ride share to MK, the regular drop off is the TTC (compared to the other parks that drop you off next to the bus stops, close to the main entrance) and who wouldn’t want to just get dropped off at CR and talk the walkway versus a monorail or ferry?

Doesn't sound like it's the case here, but you're also allowed to park for the purpose of visiting guests staying at the resort by giving a name and room number. I don't know of a time limit for this.
