Parking at Logan

I've booked Song, Logan to MCO in January. I checked the Logan website and it looks like parking in the "satellite" lot is reasonably priced. Has anyone done this? I'll have two children (5, 7) and just want to be prepared if it is going to be a hassle. Would it be worth having DH drop me and kids off at terminal and then go to satellite lot and get the shuttle himself?

Any help would be appreciated. We went on JetBlue last year but took a bus from Concord NH to Logan so we didn't have to deal with parking!

I have used the satellite parking on several occasions however I have been by myself every time. The cost is worth it compared to what it would cost at Central Parking. Both times however, I just missed the shuttle to the airport and had to wait around another 15 minutes or so! Call it bad luck on my part.

In any event I would do it. If you think it will be difficult with the children, then I would opt for dropping you and the kids off at the terminal.

If the kids will be excited (like most kids going on vacation) then I don't think it will bother them in the least.

I have used Logan Express when travelling with my kids but if I was going to drive in, I would most certainly opt for the satellite parking and I know the kids would be no worse for the wear. It's all part of the adventure!

The satellite lots are pretty nice, we use them all the time. The kids don't mind waiting for a bus to the terminal, there's plenty to see ouver there, you will be near the hangers for maintenace and stuff, and sometimes they move planes around, stuff like that.
In January it can be kind of cold waiting though, so wear a hat.

We used it last month and it wasn't bad at all. You pass all the terminals and just when you think you have completely left the airport, you see the parking lot. We found a space and there were several luggage carts left around the parking lot, so we grabbed one, loaded up and walked over to the shuttle. A shuttle pulled up a couple of minutes later and our terminal was the first stop.

On the way home, we walked outside and waited near the bus areas for the shuttle (which is clearly marked "Economy Lot"). They stopped at several termimals, so it took a few minutes to get back to our car.

The price was $112, I think for a full week (Sun - Sun)

You can also try one of the other airport lots on the way on Rt 1A. They might offer even cheaper rates. However, the satellite lots are not that bad but make sure you get there in time for th eshuttles in case you miss one.

We've done it with small kids at 5am. It is chilly and takes a while but is do-able. If you can do drop off it might be better. We've gone out of Providence last two trips and it's a lot easier.

another option is Park, Sleep and Fly.

We flew out of Boston this past summer and found the Park, Sleep & fly wasn't much more than the cost of parking for 10 days. With this you get the night at the hotel and leave your car parked there for the duration of your trip. The hotel will shuttle you to your terminal and when you return, they come pick you up. What also made it great for us is being an hour and half from Boston and having an early morning flight is we didn't have to get up as early to drive all the way in the morning.
Our options were a Holiday Inn and a Sheraton and a few more that do this.
For us just to park for the 10 days in a lot was going to be $134. And the Park, Sleep, Fly hotel with 10 days of parking was $159. Keep in mind this was July, rates may be less for your time period.

Mickeyfaniam: I had considered the sleep, park, fly but we ended up deciding to fly down Fri night (7pm) instead of Sat am.

We are leaving NH at 3:00 when we pick the kids up at school, flight is at like 7:10, so I just have to make a decision on parking - the satellite lot sounds like the thing to do. Then I will have to get on Priceline and get a MCO hotel booked for the night (we arrive around 10:15). This is our first trip trying this schedule - I'm hoping that being there for the full day on Sat. will make the trip seem longer.

We are within 15 miles of Logan, so it's a cab or the T to the airport for us usually. This is less feasible as DS gets older and larger, as he is completely wheelchair-bound. So my question is:

If it snows while we're off in Florida, what happens? Do they plow and then shovel your car out? Or should we be prepared to shovel a little bit once we get to the lot? I believe that the economy lots are just lots, not a covered parking structure.

Can anyone enlighten here with their experience?

I agree, that is a great way to do it...flying on Friday night to make your Saturday a full day. I have done that every time I have ever gone to WDW.
The trip that I used the Park, Sleep and Fly for was to California ......it was my first time flying out of Logan. The fares were better there and there was no way I could get out of work on Friday and catch a flight in Boston on Friday night
so under the circumstances the Park, Sleep & Fly worked great.

I only do the Park, Sleep, and Fly at Holiday Inn OR the Central parking. We are totally into convenience. For us it's worth the outragous cost to park in central parking and have our car close by especially since we go in the winter months.

I used this last year - IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! Do not use the Massport lot. I waited both ways over 15 mins for a bus. While I waited on the return trip I saw at least 4 or 5 other offsite busses making the rounds. I used them one and liked them.

If parking off site I would recommend the lots on 1A.

The only off site parking I used is Logan Park & Go. They are in Chelsea off of 1A and about a 1/2 mile from the airport. I'm not sure how they compare in price with other lots but I never had a long wait for a shuttle. On departure they always seemed to have a few shuttles idling waiting to pick up people. If you have the time an have reasonable knowledge of the area I would suggest a drop off of you and the kids and have your DH take the shuttle.

We have used the PARK-SHUTTLE -Fly many times and it works out fine. Can get a little chilly but not bad. This is the first time we are doing the stay and fly package from Holiday inn. It is only going to cost us $20 more then the park/shuttle/fly and we drive in from Durham NH and my wife and DD will get an hour more sleep this way.

We have used the P/S/F the last 4 trips 2 with kids and know problems.

We used the Economy lot a year ago. It was about $90 if I remember correctly. We all took the shuttle bus over to the airport. It was actually just getting ready to leave as we were hiking across the lot!! Must have been a sight....us charging across the lot, dragging all that luggage, tripping over our feet in our haste. When we got back to Logan from WDW, my dd and I waited for our baggage at the claim area and dh took the shuttle bus over to the lot and then drove back over to pick us up. For our trip last Aug we used Knight's Trans. Service. It was about $140 r/t, including tip. We are going again in Nov and we will be using Central Parking. It will be about $8 more than the van and we won't have to worry about our flight being delayed and missing the van or having to drive around Logan looking for other possible passengers at midnight!!!

And the snow is one of the reasons for not using the Economy lot. Dh doesn't want to take a chance on having to shovel out his car. So, we'll pay the extra $$ and have our own car, in covered parking.

ITA!!!

I even prefer Central parking to staying at the Holiday Inn the night before IF I'm going in the snow season so I plan accordingly. It stinks coming home and having to clean off the car! I do like the Holiday Inn stay/parking if my flight is REALLY early and its NOT snow season.

When I called them to ask they tyold me that they keep the cars cleared off, are you telling me they don't?

That would be really sour to return to a snowed in car in Jan. I know fron past experiences that the park/shuttle/fly keeps your car cleared off. I think they move them around when they plow.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure. I just assumed because of their parking lot being uncovered that I'd come back to a snow covered car.

That's great then if they do clean off the cars. I'm using them this Oct 29, but it probably won't snow that week!
