Parking at fort wilderness

Can you just park at Fort Wilderness to go to chip and dale sing along?
You would have to park at the Outpost where you enter then take an internal post to where you want to go.

I do not know if you need to stop in the Outpost for any kind of parking pass.

Last 2 times I was there last month the security guard asked for my name to check for reservations. I’m assuming if I didn’t I would not have been let in.

You didn't say, but are you staying on property? If so, where?
Are you coming from off site?
You have lots of options if you're already at WDW. Not so much if you're coming from an off property location.

Your best bet is to have your SIL park at Disney Springs and you all take the transport from the Poly there and then you take the bus to FW.
It's primarily a perk for guests staying at FW but on property people can get there easiest as they are staying onsite and can take transport around.
Also beware as Halloween gets closer and people bring extra trailers, cars, golf cart trailers etc. during this season, the lots fill up fast with guests staying at FW.

Our recent experience...my parents attended Hoop de Doo review and did a carriage ride (and loved both activities). They drove over from a Disney Springs resort and were initially turned away and told to come back later, because they weren't allowed to park at the Fort until 2 hours prior to showtime.

Something to keep in the back of your mind. Disney property was designed so that people staying on site could/would use Disney transportation. You might need to do a transfer here and there, but you can get anyplace.
That being said, overflow parking at the fort means just that, overflow for the folks staying in the campground. There are trailers and vehicles that won't fit on the sites the campers bring. They go out to the overflow. The amount of spaces aren't meant to accommodate a lot of transient vehicles. During very busy times you'll see trailers and vehicles parked in the fields just inside the entrance, which are owned by the campers (guests) staying at the campground. If you are staying on property and decide to drive to the Fort, understand you might not find a parking space. Finally, there is no car parking at or near HDDR. You will still have to take an internal bus from the Outpost to HDDR if you drive in.
Hopefully this provides a little insight into why the parking situation at Fort Wilderness is the way it is.
