Does anyone ever park at Downtown Disney or a resort and ride a bus to the theme parks to avoid paying for parking?

I'm leaving tomorrow for an impromptu trip with my wife and 2 kids 26months and 10 months. I hate to be cheap, but saving a buck everywhere I can will help.

Thanks

If you are staying at a WDW resort the parking is free. They will give you a parking pass at check in and you just show it at each parks "toll booth" and they wave you through.

I have heard of people doing this, like staying offsite and parking at the poly so they could use the monorail. I do not know how anyone would be able to tell that you are not a resort guest by parking at DTD. You would have to get a bus to one of the resorts and then transfer over to the park bus of your choice.

Thanks for the heads up. I had totally forgotten that busses do not run from DTD to parks. I'll transfer at a resort.

Thanks

Just remember how time consuming that is. To go to WDW from DTD, grab dd's birthday card and right back to DTD took me a little over an hour. Will call took 2 minutes, the rest was travel time. If you don't mind using that much time, it's doable.

If you plan to park at DTD in order to get to a park, using the buses, then yoiu need to allow for at least an hour to do so. It can take quite awhile for the resort buses to get there....I have had my longest bus waits at DTD!! Then you have to get to a park from that resort...isn't always quick.
It's less than $15 to park at a park...keep that receipt and show it at the next lot on the same day and you park for free.
It amazes me to see how many people are willing to spend over an hour getting to a park in order to avoid paying that parking fee.

When I go to Epcot or MGM I'm sure I will just park at the theme park, but the day I go to MK, why not park at DTD and catch a bus to GF. I can either walk or take the Monorail from there.

I mean, parking in MK parking isn't a breeze. You still have to catch a boat or monorail. $15 isn't a lot of money in the big picture, but it does cover another meal or a couple of snacks.

You can't walk from GF to the Kingdom. You can only walk from the Contemporary.

In my opinion, time is money at Disney World. You pay much more for a ticket for everyone to get in the park then you do for parking. I'd rather spend an extra hour in the parks then spend all that time and energy going from DTD and having to transfer and everything. And then at the end of the day you have to do it all over again..

1) The parking lot guard can watch me unload my car and hop on a GF bus.

2) Yeah, I know you can't walk from the GF to MK, I misspoke. I was thinking CR. However, when I load up on the monorail from GF my first stop will be MK.

The pros of parking at a hotel and riding to the park are that it will be free, you can bring your old refillable mugs to get a drink while you wait, and if you get hot during the day you can take the bus back and swim at the resort pools. The only con is that all the good wheelchairs are gone since you are waiting for a bus and might have to stand in lines now.

Good luck spending all that time on busses with a toddler and a baby! You're talking an easy 90 min each way by the time you park, wait for the DTD bus, ride to the resort, switch busses, wait for THAT bus, ride to the park. With strollers and diaper bags, even MORE fun. Seems like a whole lot of extra bother just to save a few bucks. But to each their own. It won't seem that bad at the start of the day, but it will seem like forever, going from park to resort to DTD at the END of the day. And lord help you if you forget something in the car! :scared1:

:earsboy:

I've been to WDW ooohhhh about 60 times. I know the process of swapping busses. You guys are way over estimating the amount of time it would take from DTD to MK via GF Monorail.

Anyway, like marc70879 said, I can bring an old mug and fill it up at the GF on the way through. I may not even need to spend a dime all day.

hee hee.

Heck why stop there? Bring that mug with you to MK and head to the Pecos Bill's Fixin's Bar. Fill up your mug with all those toppings and enjoy a nice refreshing salad.

(I'm pretty sure our collective leg is being pulled.)

Wow to be so proud in trying to scam the parks. I guess now I understand why it was so hard to find parking when we went to DTD last year if there are people like this. Heck, why would you want to cram your children in busses like that and expose them to everything under the sun when you could just pay $12 and park your own vehicle. This would also make it easier if the little ones become overwhelmed and need a break out of the park.

We will be staying on site and I will probably still drive my own car because when I am done or need a break I want to be able to leave and not have to depend on anyone else or be on crowded busses. I just don't get why you would rather expose your children to every illness going around at the time to save $12. Hmmmm, wonder what the doctor costs and any medicine they may need from picking up some illness costs.
