Parking at Contemporary after dining

Folks , Been driving to Disney and staying onsite for the past 15 years. Take the car out every day and come back late at night at various resorts. Have never once been locked out of a spot when we got back late. If I was I would drive up to Valet and have them park my car for no charge for I am entitled to a spot as as driving guest. We are all guests of Disney , so for the few times some one has Dinner at a resort and goes to the nearest park from that resort it is not affecting any one. No worries

So If any one has been locked out of their parking spot at a resort because of no parking please comment. And let us know how you resolved the issue.:goodvibes

I disagree. For one person that might be the case, but if every driving guest who isn't staying at the Contemporary, but has a reservation at Chef Mickey's for breakfast decides to do it, it isn't just a few cars. I have had to drive around at both the Poly and Contemporary before. Eventually found a spot, but I wouldn't have had to spend time searching if there weren't people abusing the system. It never really occurs to me to be annoyed when I'm there (too busy having fun), but I do have a problem with people defending something that is clearly prohibited. If you want to hop a resort to a park, just suck it up and valet. It is just a little more than paying to park in the lot. We have done that in the past and found it convenient.

All that being said, I have never considered parking at any of the resorts we have stayed to be a huge hassle. We always valet at the GF because of the lot location so I can't attest to that, but the other monorail resorts are usually fine. I've found parking at Bonnet Creek to be a bigger hassle than any onsite resort.

They will not let you enter the gates if you do not have a reservation for dinner.
They will check your id against the reservation list.

You will park in guest parking.
They have no clue when you are done dinner or whos cars belong to who in that parking lot.
You are not "suppose" to leave your car there. Lets just say that!

Not true. We parked there twice to go to the MK. We did pay to valet though. I specifically called and asked if we could do this and they said we absolutely could. I would valet that way you don't risk getting a ticket or towed and walk over to MK and enjoy you evening. We actually were able to leave for midday breaks and still and come right back and drop off the car. The valet was happy to have us:goodvibes

I would drive and valet the car.

We prefer to drive to dinner reservations, just to ensure there are no timing snafus, but if we plan to go straight to the MK after dinner, we valet the car. Small price to pay for the convenience, IMO.

Many times you will drive up to the guard shack at the deluxe resort parking lots and there will be a sign stating that they are sorry but they cannot provide parking for the theme parks. So you park and eat, then leave and park at the theme park parking lot.

Ok, you wanted someone. I have a been unable to ind a parking spot a few times at the Poly and its horrid. There is nothing worse than not having a spot at your home resort. You may not think it happens but I can assure you fom experience it does. And there is little you can do except park in the reception area and complain to management. They may let you park in valet free but a couple of times they have had cars towed and then we got a spot. Oh yeah, it happens.

No worries, yeah there are. But the more important thing is to treat people as you would be treated. So, if you wouldn't want to be blocked out at your home resort then don't potentially block someone at theirs. It's just common courtesy.

I have been blocked at the Yacht Club. In fact there were so many of us having troble parking they had an attendant actually helping us park in all sorts of nonparking places and anyone without a Yacht club tags car was marked (it was 8am or so when I couldn't find parking). When I went back out to my car at 11:30 they were towing all the cars they had marked on the lot earlier. I know by the time I was going in the gate all those without an actual reservation for the resort (not dining) were not allowed to park.

I always wonder how these threads turn into "What if everyone did it?"

Let me be the first to tell you, "Everyone" doesn't do anything.

But that doesn't mean it is ok to be inconsiderate or not follow the rules.

But what exactly is the rule? What the sign says at the resort, what the guard tells you at the resort gate or what the posters state in threads like these?

Usually something in writing from the company tops anything verbal or from an outside source. So, the sign should be the rule.

Maybe the moderators would consider creating a stickie like they did about pool hopping, mug use...? There is often a big difference in what the written rules are and what the actual guards are allowing in regards to parking.

To me, it doesn't matter what the guards allow or what the guards say is allowable...if the signs say resort and dinner guests only, that's it, period, end of story.

If someone wants to drive to dinner at the CR, and then head straight to the MK, they should valet their car.

That's what people who break the rules tell themselves to feel better.

It doesn't take everyone, it just takes enough to create a problem for people who choose to follow the rules.

if one is a resort guest, parking at the park's lot is free! take advantage of that. to take up a space because of a sense of entitlement is wrong! you spent a bazillion dollars to get to WDW, and guess what? I did too! follow the rules and everyone would be happier! I have heard that non resort guests go to DTD to 'shop' but really to avoid paying the parking fees at the park and take the buses to the parks.
if disney would employee staff members from the Philadelphia Parking Authority (Parking Wars) there would be boots and tows all over the World!!

DH had a four day convention there and even with that they would only give us a three hour parking pass. He was late booking a room at the Contemporary, so had an overflow room at Port Orleans with a group of other attendees too. That meant he had to take a bus to the MK and walk over, take a cab, or have me drop him off and pick him up. // At least when we were there, they were really strict about having you put a ticket in your window with your expiration time. // Maybe we could have kept the car there all day -- would have been nice, but we didn't try it. // I personally thought it was ridiculous that when your company is paying over $1000 for you to attend a conference that they won't even let you park your car there. It's not like he didn't want to book a room there either.

if the company was spending $1000 for your husband to be there, then I spent $1000 to be there as well. why do you feel that he was 'entitled' to stay there because someone else paid for you to be there? as his wife, I would have gladly gotten up to ensure he got to where he needed to go on time. he should have booked on time. sorry!!

I, Don't believe this parking issue comes up often, but at times yes.. If it did to often, Disney would set up a dining parking lot. Computerize it so if you have gone past your 3 hours you would be charged a $15.00 parking fee as in valet.

I test soft ware. With magic bands it is totally probable in the next few years the guard will scan you magic bands, confirm your linked reservation allow you to park your 3 hours or twenty minutes past your final bill. Send a warning text if your going over your allotted time. Charge your resort if you go over. It will know if your running late with dinner because your final purchase at dinner will be linked to your magic band or room key, so as not to over charge you mistakenly.

If any one can't get a parking spot for Dinner or as a home resort guest. I suggest again to drive up to Valet ask for a manager and tell them the situation. Disney will park your car for free.
Don't get mad at every one for not following this advice if the once in a blue moon you can't find a spot. For goodness sakes your at a Deluxe! As for all the choice spots taken issue. Everyone can't have the closest spot to the hotel. Pretty soon people will be putting beach towels and fake back packs on their parking spots when they leave for the day like I see them doing at storm along bay at 6:00am. Just an observation:surfweb:

And that is why I am suggesting that the mods here put a stickie in this forum and state what Disney's written rule. This is at least the 3rd thread about resort parking that I have seen this week.
