Parking at Boardwalk

No those parking lots aren't for guests staying at the Inn or Villas, just for the guests who are not staying there. Plus can you imagine telling them on some nights you might need to park across the street behind the Hess station because of those who are there to eat or look around, that doesn't sound like good business.
No matter which resort I stay at, I know that some days I might have close parking while others I might have to trek. This is no different.

Either way, TPTB decide when non-resort guests can park in the near lot and for how long. I see no reason for any driver to care about this issue during those periods that management doesn't.

Well a few years ago when we went there on New Years Eve they were directing all cars who were not guests of the Boardwalk Inn/Villas to park behind the Hess. This way the main lot would only be for guests staying there. Plus they also gave us a 3 hour parking pass with the time we arrived and the time it would expire at. So during times like that and other holidays that parking lot will be used to keep the main lot open to people staying there.
Agreed.

When TPTB care about this issue, we should do as directed. During those periods that they do not care which lot is used, I see no reason for a person to park in the farther lot when spaces are available in the near one.

Well during the other times of the year when we would visit the Boardwalk we would always park in the other overflow lot to the left of the guard shack when you drive in, because that was the right thing to do since we weren't staying there. Now we very easily could have parked in the main lot, however there have been times during our Contemporary stays when we couldn't get a good spot because they were taken up by guests not staying there. So knowing what that feels like we didn't want to do that to others staying at the Boardwalk. Basically I see it as being common courtesy.

This doesn't make much sense. There's no guard shack at the lot across from the bus entrance, people can pull in there at will and park.

On the other hand, we always park at BWV in the main lot, whether we're staying there or not. We've never been told where to park nor given a time limit.

Maybe it depends on the time of year.

i'm a little confused as to what the issue is.

we pull up to the security guy, tell him we've got res for XX and he tells us where to park.

what's the big deal if he tells me to go right left or back over to there? i just go where he says to park.

There really is no issue. My original question was answered within the first few posts. Everything after that is just opinion and bickering with some anecdotal evidence thrown in for fun.

FWIW I've probably parked several dozen times in the Boardwalk lots- the one next to the guard house and the lot behind the Hess station.

I just show the guard my license and tell him going to the Boardwalk and he waves me through and I park in the lot beside the guard house where guard said to park. Never been asked for dining info or been given a 3-hour pass or had resort reservation info requested. Guard has never asked me where I'm going.

At really busy times of the year, like 4th July or some holidays, there is a sign in median on main road that says parking on the BW side for resort guests only. Can usually find a spot in lot behind Hess although at busy times sort of iffy.

Well like I said the one time we parked was on New Years Eve and there was Cast Members standing there at the entrance to the lot behind the Hess and were handing our 3 hour parking passes, so that day there was special circumstances for getting one when parking over there.

I think some of the confusion is because the parking has changed at Boardwalk with the last year or so. Before, if you were going in to visit you could park in the lot to the right after you passed the guard shack, and now that area is blocked off and the only open lot from that road is to the left after the guard shack. If you haven't been in the last year you may not be aware of that. We just drove up and told the guard we wanted to walk around on the boardwalk and he directed us to park in the lot to the left. I'm not even sure how you get in the lot on the right anymore unless you drive around past the bus stop area and turn in there. Maybe someone who has stayed there recently could elaborate?! We haven't been there since January.

That's exactly correct and how we drove into that lot during our two stays at the Boardwalk Inn when we stayed there in August 2010 and December 2010.

When was the last time that anyone has been able to park inside of the Boardwalk Inn parking lot and haven't been asked for I.D. or a reservation number, etc.?

I parked there March 1. I was not staying on property. I probably showed my ID but I don't remember. I pulled up to the guard shack and told the guard I was taking my daughter to lunch for her birthday on the Boardwalk. He directed us into the lot, did not give us a permit, and wished us a good lunch.

That's where we parked when we stayed at the BWV this past January.
