Park shoes...again!

I'm wearing my Birkenstock Gizehs eeeeeverywhere, but if it rains I'm bringing my Okabashi Mauis along as backup. <--- check out those flip flops! They are inexpensive, made in the USA, recyclable, have all the proper support, and are waterproof and dishwashable!

In hot weather I can NOT do shoes and socks. I die. But I'm a runner and swear by Saucony shoes. Every person's foot is different though, and if you are interested in getting running shoes then get fitted by a professional.

That's it...I HAVE to get a better pair of shoes for park touring. My feet are killing me in my el cheapo sneakers. With our trip coming up this September I would like a nice LIGHT WEIGHT, mesh pair of sneakers to add to my footwear. ANY recommendations? I also have Croc sandals and flip flops that I really like, but I'd be open to suggestions for sandals or flip flops that are comfortable, light weight, dry quickly and have GREAT arch support. As I sit here right now, my right instep does this intermittent burning stabbing pain thing that makes me want to punch someone.

That sounds like you might have a case of plantar fasciitis .... this can be caused by shoes that do no support you well.

You might need arch support, but you might also want to see if you pronate or supinate too much.

Best bet is to go to a running store, bring in a pair of well worn runners (they will want to look at the tread wear), then they will watch you walk/jog (they do this for free), they will watch how your foot lands how the ankle bends etc.

They will then tell if you need pronation or supination support and suggest a lien of shoes.

There are usually a ton to choose from New Balance, Saucony, Asics, etc. Surprisingly for many, I wouldn't go with a standard shoe, ie: reebok or Nike, etc. if you have any of these issues, they will probably make it worse.

No offense, but it's just walking.

Yes, it may just be walking, but I averaged almost 32,000 steps a day in Disneyland last week. There are days when I don't have to go out anywhere that I barely walk 3,000 steps if I don't make the effort to walk more. Park walking is not normal walking.

Teva Olowahu flip flops. I'm so glad I bought these sandals! They were so comfortable! Easily the best shoes I have ever worn on a Disney vacation. My feet were not achy, chafed, or sore at all. I brought my trusty Crocs as a back-up but didn't wear them at all because these were so cushiony and less sweaty than Crocs -- and much more stylish, too! I wore them around all day with my shorts and t-shirts and even wore them a couple of times with a knit dress to a nice dinner. Highly recommend!

To those of you who mentioned Skechers Go Walks... I can't thank you enough. Literally a week before our trip to Disneyland I had a flareup of a bump on top of my foot. I could barely walk for more than 5 minutes and we were planning 2 14 hour days. Well, between a cortisone shot and Go Walks based on your recommendations, I was able to have a great visit with no more pain than you'd expect from a 14 hour day. It is my first trip to ANY Disney park with zero blisters. I got grey kind of tshirt material shoes... Looked a little like slippers but who cares????

Loving this thread!!! Leaving for Disney in 3 days!!

Can the Skechers Go Walk people advise if these shows are good for December visits to Disney as well? I have my trusted Nikes and have even bought Moleskin but wanted to bring a 2nd pair of shoes along. I know. I know. Now is not the time for brand new shoes but many of you seem to be Go Walk fans....

Thanks for any advice!!!:hyper:

A slightly broken in pair of Crocs Athens flip flops is the only shoe I have ever been comfortable in all day in WDW.

Question for Sketchers GO Walk Fans: I have a pair of Go Walk 2 and while I love them for walking around town and doing errands I'm concerned about them going all day in the parks. Do those of you that wear them all day go sock free? Do you add gel inserts?
I don't have foot issues but do have circulation and leg issues that come up when I walk at Disney all day
Have not tried the gowalks at DW yet

I usually take 2 pairs.... generally my New Balance sneakers and my Teva sandals. Always best to be prepared to switch off another day!

I generally wear Merrell hiking sandals, love them. I will also sometimes wear croc sandals but they are not as comfortable for all day walking as the Merrell's
