Park Reservations Availability for Hotel Guests

@roxy72, I’m seeing DCA start open for MK on 12/7. It’s unnerving to give up what you have before you can get something else, though.

Honestly, I have trouble believing the answer. I had no trouble making a reservation on a day sold out for MK when I used our DL hotel reservation. I guess we’ll see if they refuse to let us in that day.

I have an update for anyone who was curious about our situation. For reference, we have Enchant magic keys, and we want to switch our 12/7 Disneyland reservation to start at DCA. This day appears wide open on the hotel calendar. Since we are staying at the Grand California, we wanted to see if we could cancel our 12/7 DL and make a new one to start at DCA.

The answer is NO. Our primary affiliation- and therefore calendar bucket- is as Magic Keys. We default to the Magic Key calendar. So if we were to cancel 12/7, we would not able to rebook since the corresponding MK calendar is sold out on that day. I found this disappointing of course. We are spending over $600/night (with promo code!) for a 4-night honeymoon at the Grand, and while it's a beautiful hotel, there aren't as many perks to it- no in-room dining, no early park entry, no daily cleaning, no package delivery from the parks (We buy a lot of souvenirs so this sucks!), etc etc. The list goes on and on. We'll love every minute of it but I think the price should be dropped to reflect the decrease in services and perks.
This isn't actually accurate. I'm messaging you.

I wonder if it's all still a fluid situation. I overheard someone in the DLH club lounge today being told by a CM that he couldn't get a park reservation today because there weren't any open. I was very perplexed as anytime I've looked at my hotel reservations, it will let me book any day with my Key.

I believe that to be incorrect. Unless that enchant keys are different. If you go to your hotel reservation and select “make park reservations” and then select your key to make a reservation with.

I was able to do this with a Dream key and it got me next Saturday and Sunday when they were both gone for keys. (I had six already so had to wait to enter the park to make a new one.)

Wow, thanks everyone! How interesting to learn that we were misguided after that long phone call. Also, I misquoted our date earlier by the way- we arrive on 12/7, but the date that we are trying to adjust from starting in DL to starting in DCA is Friday, 12/10.

I may need to fiddle around with this on the weekend and will report back- thanks!

Can anyone confirm how resort park reservations work with a Magic Key. I am looking at getting the Enchantment Key for my family as we are staying at the Grand Californian for six nights. It is cheaper to buy the enchantment key then it is to buy a five and two day pass. The problem is several days have no availability for the Magic Key as well as the one blackout day. I can deal with not having an option for the black out date, but hoping to get some clarification as far as using the resort park availability with the enchantment key. From reading I have seen both that you can and can't use the resort availability with a magic key. Thank you in advance.

So I found something interesting that maybe I missed before.

I have 2 nights booked at DLH for Oct. 27th - 29th.
I linked my resort reservation so I could check for available park day reservations for December 10th a day I accidentally cancelled under the Dream Key "pool".
I was able to make a park reservation for that day, December 10th once I linked the resort reservation. I assumed that you could only make reservations for days of your stay.
Kind of an expensive hack lol.

I have a Dream Magic Key and all the dates that are blocked for me open up when I link my hotel reservation and click on "Make park reservations" from the hotel stay. If I try to book the same dates via my Magic Key without a hotel stay, they are not available. Once you link your hotel to your account, you'll be able to reserve whatever days you need up to the maximum that your ticket or key allows. For example, I can only reserve a maximum of 6 visits with my key, but after I use one of the days, I can add another day as long as I never go over 6 reservations.

I was curious about that because all days do show up, even if they are nowhere near the hotel stay. I also wondered if people book a hotel stay and then make park reservations and then cancel the hotel would still have the park reservations. When I cancelled a stay on the phone, they told me to make sure I cancel any park reservations that I wasn't going to us. This is a loophole that I hope they close quickly.

Yes, you can book up to the number of allowed reservations your MK allows when linked to the hotel reservation and pull from the hotel reservation bucket on the days available for MK.

Eg: Believe key is blocked out Dec 4. We cannot get Dec 4. even if Dec 4 is available due to blackout date.

Yes, you can book offsite dates - for now.

I hope they don’t close it by taking away the resort bucket or something stupid like that.

This may be why cast members are being told this isn’t possible… but if you’re at the hotel and express concerns when you realize you can’t get into the parks with your pass or even single day tickets, the front desk staff will be able to work some “magic” and show you how to get into the park.

It would be absolutely insane to have a guest pay $2500 for the Grand and not be able to get into the park, so there must be some work around and it looks like Disney made sure of that. At the same time, you don’t want guests exploiting this because of the generous cancellation policy for the hotels. (Which I seriously make use of if I see discounts show up or decide to change room types, so I hope that doesn’t get locked down!)

I don't know what the rules are, but common sense would say that if you have a Magic Key and a hotel reservation, you should 100% be able to get a reservation on your Magic Key for the days when you have a hotel reservation, regardless of whether the Magic Key bucket is sold out. That should include your arrival and departure days. In other words you should be able to use the hotel bucket to get reservations even if you have a MK. If those aren't the rules, they should be.

However, being able to use your Magic Key to book days through the hotel bucket when you're not even staying at the hotel doesn't really seem fair to me?

You have to link your dvc reservation to the disneyland app, then from the Disneyland app hit your hotel reservations and it will say make park reservations. Did it today, it took a while to register like overnight before it worked

I don’t think anyone’s suggesting that.

I do think people with Magic Keys should be able to use the hotel bucket when they’re at the hotel. They initially couldn’t, and I don’t want to see it shut back down to that.
