Park Pet Peeves

Well, as bad as this sounds, I almost did that once and I was quite sober. I am a "foot flusher" and was wearing some strappy flip flops. I'm not quite sure how I managed to do this, but when I flushed my foot slipped and the flusher handle got wedged into one the straps on my shoe. I lost my balance and in trying to get my foot free from the handle I just about landed in the toilet bowl. Unfortunately, during all the bouncing around trying to get free, I have to say that my sunglasses fell in and I did have to get them out (luckily they were cheap and I threw them directly into the trash and washed my hands for like 10 minutes afterwards). I guess I should count myself lucky that the toilet did get flushed several times as I was hopping up and down trying to keep my balance and get my foot free. I was so mortified by the time I got out of there. What can you do other than laugh at yourself in a situation like that.

And for what its worth, I was taught growing up that if the handle is up high its meant for you to use your hands to flush. If the handle is lower and be comfortably reached with your foot then its meant to be flushed with the foot. Right or wrong, that's what I go by. If anyone is worried about germs on your hands then just grab some TP and use it when you flush (as long as you remember to drop in in the toilet in time for it to be flushed down as well).

HAHAHAHAHA VERY funny post! I can see that happening to me. Im a bit of a clutz. LOL! :lmao:

One of the funniest thread ever! :rotfl:

You have now convinced me of the benefits of foot flushing. But aren't all the toilets at WDW automatic?

I forgot this one, I get so upset with people who eat in shows when they are asked to toss stuff out if eating before they get to the entrance of the show. Last year a large family sat behind us in Nemo the Musical and oh, my mercy, what a mess they left, the show hadn't even started and I bet they left a 30-40 empty snack bags, I am talking potato chips pretzels and cheeseys...and the stuff on the floor that they didn't get in their mouths....I felt like grabbing them by the neck and hauling them back in to clean up the garbage they left. Not, only that, but, when one of the younger kids needed more to eat, they yelled down the row....

By the way, I always "foot flush." To those complaining about my shoe dirt rubbing off, maybe you should "foot flush" also. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it.

If everyone foot flushes, the world would be a much happier place.

The funniest thing about this whole topic is that you can flush with your foot all day long and if everyone else does...all that gets transferred onto your shoes and then when you take your shoes off or put them on...guess who gets ALL that contamination. Kinda makes one chuckle!

Germs are probably one of the silliest things in the world to be obsessed with. You cannot escape them unless you conceal yourself in a bubble and never touch anything, breath in or eat. Use your feet, your hands, your nose, for all I care, you cannot escape them, ever. They make up everything around us and always have.

However, I still maintain that being considerate of others, as a general rule, is what protects everyone the most. Do what you please, it only reflects on you and in this case sticks to you as well.:rotfl:

I have 4 peeves that relate to when I was in DLRP last year and also my various encounters at WDW over the past 15 years..

1) I am short, but I am a person. My lack of stature DOES NOT give you the right to push past me and skip the line especially at water parks.

2) Kids on shoulders (yup I'm another one). Dont get me wrong, if the kids cant see it sucks, but when I was a kid my parents got me to where I needed to be before I needed to be there so I could see. And if this didnt happen my dad would put me on his shoulders but at the back of the crowd and would always let others in front of him if he was blocking the view.

3) People who skip the lines in the toilets because they have a child who needs to pee. We are all there for the same reason, dont push me to the back because your child cant hold it. This happened about 6 times in DLRP and eventually I would say something.

4) Not saying thank you when a door is held open or I step aside to let you past (ie onto a bus if you have kids/elderly/sticks etc). If I'm polite enough to recognise that you need past quicker than me, be polite enough to recognise it!!

Other than that I pretty much love Disney :rotfl2:

I have never skipped a line when one of my kids really had to pee but have always really appreciated when someone was kind enough to realize a potty training over excited 3 year old might be in a more desperate state than an adult when it comes to using the toilet.

I don't know about you but I don't need to touch the bottom of my shoe to take it off or put it on, I simply untie the laces and slide my feet in and out. I guess I'm cool like that :thumbsup2
But I guess the argument would be that the bottom of your shoe already touched your car mats and the entrance to your house etc. and if it was just germs on your hands they would already be washed. I personally do not care how anyone flushes a toilet :confused3 since I am washing my hands either way.

If toilets were meant to be flushed with our feet the buttom/lever would be at ground level, not up where it is. Not that care too much really, but common sense would say you use your hand to flush. Most people call the levers on the toilet handles, not footles. I'm not sure what flushing with your foot prevents, as long as you wash your hands afterwards. If you are using your foot and then not washing your hands, ewwwww!

Let's see how I can put this.....hmmmmm. I just read through this whole thread, and yes I have pet peeves to but you know what those are my problem, and I need to deal with them, and I will. Maybe Disney should require everyone that plans on attending the parks fill out surveys, and that way they can allow only like people in the parks in the same day. Only people with ecv's one day, kids another day.....etc...etc.... also we could all wear shirts with our hidden medical problems posted on them so everyone could know what was wrong with us. Oh yeah and people from different country's and tour groups can only come in if they promise to not hang out with each other and not have excessive fun. Disney can hire extra cast members to stand guard at the bathroom and make sure that germs do not enter or exit the bathroom, and if they do then we have a hazmat team like the sock response team in Monsters Inc. They can then past the cost of all this on to their customer and we can complain that they raised there prices again. We live in a great big melting pot ( thanks Schoolhouse Rock) and thank GOD we are not all exactly the same, would be an extremely boring existence. I know when i go in May there will be many things that bother me, I will get over them and enjoy my vacation any way. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!!! lmbo.

My biggest pet peeve at Disney or anywhere else is when someone holding a baby, or elderly person, is not offered a seat on the bus. Where are your manners?

Can I ask, where is their common sense? Why on earth would someone get on a bus that has no seats when they are unable to safely stand?

I don't think it is just me, but when if I were to take someone to WDW who I knew couldn't stand on a bus, I wouldn't put them into the position of having to stand on a bus. I would either rent a car, use taxis to get around, or even step aside and wait for a bus that had open seating. I wouldn't put them on a bus and the hope and pray some nice person would give the a seat. It is my responsibility to take care of my family and their well being, not the responsobility of a bus full of total strangers.

Even though that is what I believe, I will still get up if I am able to and help someone out if I think they need the seat more. But I can't imagine why anyone puts their family into the position of having to depend on other people for their well being. Don't people care for their own family members anymore?

Holy cow, this is fascinating debate (no seriously)!! It has inspired me to do a toilet flushing poll on facebook... I've never even thought about this before!!!

It's not like I'm going around touching my house floors and car mats. Plus I would argue the germs rubbed off on the concrete once I step out of the bathroom.

Tell you what...you keep telling yourself that and I'm sure you will be completely protected. I'm sure that germs are big clumpy things that scuff off when you walk, of course they do. They do that in spite of being microscopic and can live in the tiniest of crevasses and how lucky for you that you can go your life without ever even accidentally touching the bottom of your shoe, the carpeting and so on. Tell me, do you levitate as well?

You know, I bet I broke all sorts of rules that get folks upset during our first trip in 2010. I was just obliviously having a great ol time. It was such an amazing time that I didn’t think about some of the pet peeves mentioned here, and I bet many others in the parks are the same way. It makes me think about being more forgiving and less judgmental on future trips.

I know for sure that I had my daughter on my shoulders in front of the castle for the show they do in the morning/afternoon. My wife took a picture of us, and it’s actually one of my favorite pictures from that year. It is a slow time of the year and when we walked up, there wasn’t anyone behind us so I didn’t think anything of it.

I also know that I clipped a few ankles with our stroller on the packed main street after the fireworks one night. It wasn’t intentional, I had nowhere to go and they stepped in front of me. ( a couple of them were so belligerent about it that I didn’t try too hard not to bump them)

…and yes, I flush with my feet in public restrooms. (except for the urinals, which are just too dang high to reach with my feet) :)

Can I go on your day? :flower3:

:thumbsup2 Same here, I try to be considerate but do not spend all my time thinking about what irks others. Though my first post-Disboards trip I did see things and think "Oh boy I bet some DISers got their shorts in a bunch over that" :rolleyes1:laughing:

The one thing I really noticed being annoying when we were there was people that didn't speak English talking through the ride pre-shows. Just because you don't understand what is being said in the video on Test Track doesn't mean you can talk over it. We go during off times which I hear is when a lot of people from out of the country come as well. This doesn't bother me AT ALL and not knowing English does not bother me (if I went to Italy, I would probably not take the time to be fluent in the language). This happened SO many times on our trip.

At the same time, people being short and rude to the oblivious people also irritates me. We were all sitting in front of the castle for the show and a dad walks right up, stands in front of everyone, puts his kid standing on the trash can and the other kid on his shoulders. Everyone else was sitting down. Now, he didn't do this to be rude so a polite "hey, we can't see, could you please not put your kid on your shoulders, etc". And instead a bunch of people practically kill him for it. Try the polite way first! If he's DELIBERATELY being rude that's something else, but attacking someone for being oblivious is just as annoying as the oblivious people.

I didn't even notice anything else, though. No strollers or anything, or bad parenting and whatnot. Unless it's directly affecting my enjoyment (view blocked, people talking loudly over the pre-show) we just ignored it.

Lol I wonder if they touch the railings in line. I will guarantee they are pretty germ infested. Or pull a chair out in a food court or hold on to a pole on the bus. Germs are a part of life.

If you do use your foot to flush, do you touch the wall to balance? Guess what GERMS!

I think my biggest is when I on the buses. When I see that people are stading, but there is still some idiot with their stroller up in a seat. Um, put it in the floor dude, and let someone set down. I saw this coming back from MK one night in one of the busses that has a seat that goes all the way across the back. The man was sitting there with his stroller taking up the rest of the back seats. There was plenty of room for his stoller in the floor, and plenty of room in those seats for someone to sit. yes I was standing, but it wouldn't ahve benefited me, as we were in the very front of the bus. But it would have someone.

This has to be post of the thread. Bravo!
:thumbsup2

and yes, I have given up my seat on the buses at WDW many times.

Once I did have a woman ask me for my seat on the way back one night. "I sprained my ankle or something today"... I had an armload of stuff piled up in my lap and our folder stroller between my legs. I looked at her, looked at my lap and looked at her and said "Are you going to hold all this crap if I do?" I'm surprised I didn't use an expletive, lol.

Pretty much ended that conversation. My wife had our youngest child asleep in her lap and I had all of our stuff from the day piled up on me, back pack, souvenir bags not to mention the stroller between my legs.

Weird stuff to say the least.

We even skipped a bus one night because we could see it was standing room only and our youngest was (again) passed out and I knew my wife would need a seat with her.

Common sense goes hand in hand with being (or expecting) courteous.

Well lets put it this way...We weren't at work, the kids were out of school, I didn't have to cook for nine days, I was fortunate enough to stay at boardwalk, and my most stressful decision was to hop or not.....If some chanting 15 year olds for Argentina who screwed up the fast pass line at Rock n Roller Coaster was all I had to contend with, I consider myself very lucky!!!!
