Park Pet Peeves

:

Pet peeve: Being mad and yelling at everyone in sight because we actually took the time to find out about the ADR system and made reservations (and no, some were not 180+ days in advance) and you did not and now cannot use your free dining credits where you want. Saw that MANY times during our trip last October- lots of people extremely upset in MK because they couldn't eat anywhere that was a TS because they didn't have an ADR, and free dining had been extended.

as a florida resident i actually HATE the current ADR system. mostly because i would never plan a trip far enough out to be able to make reservations for the popular places. as a result i rarely get TS meals. like this trip on this upcoming weekend, i booked 2 weeks ago so im kinda out of luck for any good ADR's.. but im okay with that i wont be at the park complaining about it but i do think that 180 days out is way too far out to decide what i want for lunch or dinner. haha i cant even decide what a want to eat tomorrow never mind in 6 months.

1)I know I am slow moving LOL, but both a man and maniac stroller moms in such a rush stepping on me and giving a half apology when they are not paying attention and in such a rush when you are on vacation and there are crowds, be respectful.
2)ECV (not that I have a problem with those that use) but not sitting in there ECV on the bus and take another bus space for a pregnant woman, elderly person, or child.
3)Parents going on a tirade towards a young child (one time a parent dragged a child in a stroller in a bathroom where they are not allowed and caused a complete scene towards an innocent 3 year old child)
4)I think poor manners in generally, WDW can be exhausting, hot, full of crowds, yes some people want to stop and smell the roses, let them, just being courteous and being human not everyone there is a DiSer or expert WDW seeker. Be kind. :cool1:

Just to clarify the ecv comment- that isn't by choice. most of the bus drivers will not allow a preson to sit in the ecv. some will but most won't, they make them get out and use a seat. don't ask me why, just telling you it is the bus drivers not the ecv drivers.

I am jealous, seriously. I try to be a considerate person. I pay attention to how I affect those around me. I also get annoyed when others are not considerate. When I do something inconsiderate (which we all do) I apologize. I really wish none of it got to me but it does....I was raised to think about it.

The things in this thread are legitimate examples of people being inconsiderate.
The next time I go to Disney World, I know I wont flush the toilet with my foot and maybe the guy in front of me will look before he blocks my view. Is there really anything wrong with that?

This is but one thread which has the potential to be amusing (as I have seen here) and enlightening. Like I said before, Disney Love is all over the board....including this thread.

I'm new to this thing, I don't do face book or twitter and haven't figured all of this Dis Boards stuff out yet. This is the first thread I stumbled on to. I hate it. I've been trying to figure out how to delete my profile and just forget about it. Lady with the Fairy God Mother pic. back off and save your scolding for your husband or what ever. Walt Disney World is where I find joy and a modicum of peace. Nothing gets to me there beceause it's just so irrelivent. Life is soooo stressful and I don't want my trips to be stressful too. I'm sorry, I'm sorry I'm freaking sorry. My name's Diane not Mary Poppins. I have a lot of wonderful things I could share I just stumbled on to the wrong thread I guess.

nah dont quit just some people most of the other threads will give you some good info, dont like the few bad apples that want to spoil things for others, the internet is full of them

Just FYI, not all limitions work the same way all the time. A fair number of people come on the DISabilities board talking about problems with knees or hips so that they can't walk for too long or too far, but if they sit for too long the joint tends to freeze up so that they can't stand at all. My ex-husband had circulation problems at one point that was causing his legs to swell up. His doctor reccomended walking when he could (which helps circulation) and sitting with his feet up when they got too swollen.

The usual reccomendation in these cases is to get a manual WC, sit and get pushed when you need to, and use it as a walker when you need to walk. Or get an ECV and let someone else drive it when you need to walk. If you have two people with problems, you can share one WC/ECV. Many older couples both have some problems and some mobility so they share one WC/ECV, taking turns.

In short, not uncommon and not evidence of "cheating".

I'm not mad about the situation, and I'm not saying they were cheating. I honestly don't know much about physical disabilities, I just thought it was kind of a funny anecdote. I don't really know how the whole wheel chair entrance thing works anyway. I'm too busy hitting the books to go on a vacation anywhere, and therefore have only been to WDW twice while I was in high school. I was never especially bothered by any of the wheel chair issues mentioned on this discussion, other than when it took 15 minutes to load one man onto the bus because the driver couldn't get the chair secured (no one's fault really, and better safe than sorry.)

I genuinely hate people who put their kids on their shoulders and they aren't against the wall or something that isn't obstructing someone else's view. If these (deleted) all of the sudden vanished off the earth, I would not be upset at all.

I'm only 5'2" so I often get obstructed views from peoples' heads. If someone put their kids on their shoulders in front of me and when I asked them to stop, they didn't, I get mad. Like crazy-person mad. It's one of my top pet peeves in the entire world. They would be (and have always been) paid back.

But now, I try really hard to get a spot that someone cannot stand in front of me or get in front of a wall where my boyfriend can put me on his shoulders. I arrive early for these spots because while your kids might not see well for his/her first 14 years, I haven't seen well in a crowd EVER. It's tiring. It makes me cry sometimes because it's like a never ending battle that I always lose. I even get to the theater about 45 minutes early to make sure I get a spot that has a railing in front of it to make sure some tall person doesn't sit in front of me. In the Disney theaters though, if I end up with a row in front of me, it never fails that the tallest person in the party sits in front of me. Even if the whole row is empty, THEY SIT IN FRONT OF ME!!! Ah! I am ALWAYS thinking of the people behind me in a theater. I never sit in front of kids if I can help it (such as if it's a pack theater) or shorter people. I just wish others would take the few seconds to be courteous as well.

I am almost always a easy going, extremely nice person but when someone is rude to me or others for no reason like this, I become very angry and vengeful.

Some more pet peeves 9 hour flight to get to Disney, and lastly watching other people's small children happily getting on rides that scare the heck out of me. If they can do it why cant I?
:scared1:

People that sit too close on the bus or a ride and toot. There is no escape:eek:

In reading some of these posts, I have a few responses.

For seating on the bus: I hardly ever sit unless there are more seats available than passengers. I let anyone else sit before me. I am a runner, I work on my feet all day long and I am young and able, I wish more people able would follow suit so that those who are less able to stand can sit. My legs never tire at the World so walking all day is nothing to me, it's an every day event in my life, but even before this, I stood because I could. My boyfriend is like this too and I love it! He also refuses to sit before any woman, child, older person, or disabled person... but it really just ends up being any person, period. It's just the way he was raised and I think it's so sweet that he cares for others.

Also, I wish more people would make the effort to make room for others. If you have 3 smaller kids, they only need 2 seats. Or they can go on your lap! I know you're tired but you're sitting, inconvenience yourself a little bit by putting your kid on your lap so someone else has relieve their pain and sit down!

I am a toilet foot flusher. I use tp to open/close the door latch, and I use my foot to flush. I will never change this until all bathrooms have HOT water. Automatic sinks are great in theory but cold water will do little, even with soap.

would doing that on the monorail as you get off to a group of annoying teens who are staying on be so wrong really, is not admitting anything :rotfl:

Also hate the whole smoking in a non-smoking area, in just about anywhere. They have no right, they have no clue what people's preexisting medical history is (3rd grade had lung issues and smoke still bothers me so I tend to try and give smokers a wide berth but you can't always do that in places like Disney.

Concerning the stroller and ECV peoples who run into other people like its no one else's business. I seriously would like to introduce that lot to my Mom. She had hip surgery years and years ago before I was born and she absolutely cant stand people running into her or trying to rush her. In fact with the former I've gotten used to her stopping for a few minutes lecturing the offender this includes a memorable lecture of a young parent at a mall with two toddlers, one of whom was in a stroller. Thankfully we've had the fortune of not having anyone run into us yet. The crowds are part of the reason why she isn't much of a park goer usually. But with the amount of trips we seem to be making or will make its only a matter of time.

Line cutters
People who use strollers and scooters as battering rams, at the end of the day when the park is heaving I cant move faster than the crowd allows so don't bash the back of my legs with your stroller/scooter.
People who use their feet to flush the toilets, you are so concerned about germs you leave all sort of nasty germs picked up on your shoes for everyone else.
undisciplined kids no its not funny when your son rushes over with the intention of kicking a duck in its head, that would seriously if not kill the bird.
The family that surrounded a squirrel and scared it because it couldn't escape they would have been the first to scream compensation if it had bitten them.

Is it me or the pet peeve about flushing the toilet just a little strange?

Im with you, I find that pet peeve VERY strange. Why would someone else care if i use my foot to flush? If i decided to flush with my butt cheeks or my elbows, thats none of anyones business but mine. We all wash our hands afterwards, so any germs you may have touched that may have rubbed off the bottom of my shoe will be washed away. I personally would rather not touch the handle with my bare hands thank you very much. And yes im the type that uses a napkin to turn the water off as well. Further more, why are women staring at the stalls next to them anyway? I dont concern myself with whats going on next to me. I do my business and leave.

I agree, 6 months out is crazy. They should cut it to 3 months I think. Or 4 tops. But not 6. But anyway, it cracks me up when i see people yelling at CM's cause they cant get an ADR. I kinda feel bad for them for not having a clue as to how it works in disney. What a waste, having all those ADR credits and not being able to use them.

I kind of get the foot flushing issue. And if you're going to wash your hands right after anyway, why not just flush with your hand?? Or better yet, why not just grab a bit of toilet paper to flush with?

Touching the toilet handle is exactly the same as touching the door handle or any other item in the stall. When the toilet flushes, microscopic fecal particles get flung all over the stall, so using your foot doesn't help you unless you kick the door down on your way out.

That said, it isn't an issue at Disney with their delightful self-flushers. And really, it's not a concern of mine at all. I don't care what anyone chooses to use to push the flush handle with. Though goofyinttoronto's suggestion of a butt-cheek sounds interesting!
