Park Hoppers: Paper or Plastic?

Skimming the boards tonight made me think of a question: I want to get a 4-day park hopper this year and I am wondering if I buy them at Disney.com will they send me plastic tickets (like the room key-cards) or are they paper (like a metro ticket)? My follow-up question is: if I get the 4-day hopper put on my resort room key for convience sake, will the unused day be on there okay even though the key like "de-activates" upon check-out?

Thanks. :D

Not sure about the first question, I suspect it would be paper, but we've had no problem with those. As to the second point, yes, my daughter's fiancee used a year old Plus on an AllStar key-card from the previous year, even though the card had my wife's name on it and my daughter's fiancee was obviously, or maybe not obviously these days, a guy.

Keep in mind that the only way you can get a park ticket encoded onto your resort ID now is to purchase it at resort check in. You cannot get prepurchased tickets no matter where you bought it from put on the ID.

when i bought my hopper at the park they were paper, so im assuming where ever you buy one it is paper, unless of course if you add it on to your room key, then it will be obviosly plastic.

just saw plastic passes on display at TDS today. I wonder if they are changing over to all plastic passes

What would be the advantages or disadvantages to buying your hoppers at the resort at check in vs. TDS??? Is it just the convience of having it all on your resort key?

If you purchase your tickets at a Disney Store, you will get a plactic ticket, and you will save roughly $2.40 per day. I just puchased 5-day Park Hopper tickets and the price difference was $12.00 less than buying them on property.

We we las August, we purchased out tickets at the Ocalla(sp) visitor center. They were paper and no savings :(

We prefer the plastic tickets for their durability. Just a preference.

I'm thinking of buying my 5 day PHP passes at the WalMart in Kissimmee because they have 4 options instead of two. Anyone know if they are paper or plastic?

You cannot get the plastic passes from anyone but Disney directly. All ticket wholesalers sell only the mylar paper tickets.

We had many problems with the paper tickets a few weeks ago. Of the 10 of us, 3 of us had to go to guest services and have the tickets replaced. They would not read at the gate! Big delays getting into the parks.

One day at AK it took DH over 20 minutes to get into the park, go to guest services (outside the park) and then catch up with the rest of us!

I don't remember ever having this problem before. They must be making the strip on the back cheaper or something.

Next time its plastic for us!! Room key option or TDS!

We got ours from disneyworld.com.... they were $5 off and they were plastic. Had them mailed to us before the trip, but there was also a pick up option if you ordered late.

Just received my 7day PHP a few days ago. I ordered them when I made my hotel reservations. We got four, they are plastic, and each one has a different character on it. We got (1) Mickey, (1) Minnie, (1) Donald, and (1) Goofy. Now we have to decide who gets who on their ticket!! Oh such problems!!!;)

I wonder what other characters are available.

Is there an expiration data on the PHP tickets? We're not going until end of May '04, but I was thinking of buying my tickets before the end of this year using my Disney Club discount. I know the Disney Club goes away at the end of the year.

I just looked at mine very closely, and the only date on them is the date I ordered them and a transaction #. I've never used PHP before, but it is my understanding that the unused days do not expire. (at least on the ones purchased thru Disney)

I would go ahead and call the DC and ask them that question before you purchase, but if you buy now you can use your DC discount and have them in hand before any price increase might happen.( let's hope there are none!!)

They never expire. The only "restriction" is that you can only use it for the parks that existed when you bought it - for example, if you had bough a PH before AK opened and you were going to WDW today, you couldn't use you pass at AK.
