Park hopper ticket question...

I just came up with this question.......the EMH is stated to be for Disney resort guests only. Since anyone can buy the same type of hopper passes, how do they know the resort guests from those that aren't? LOS passes are obvious since you have to stay onsite to even buy them. Do they ask to see a room key or something?

They require that you show a valid resort room key.
