Park and Fly- what is the best option for people from the Toronto area

I live in Toronto and so far the prices for flights out of Toronto (in Jan 2016) are looking pretty pricey so I am thinking that Park and Fly may be a better bet. I am trying to figure out which US departure city is best. It looks like Buffalo and Detroit are good options. Are there any other options? Anyone had luck with Buffalo or Detroit?
Thanks in advance :)

We always fly out of Buffalo. :) Lots of park n fly options there. You can get a hotel for about $100 if you fly midweek and park up to a week, or stay longer and pay a bit extra. You could also check out flights out of Rochester.

I've made the Toronto-Windsor drive many times, but I can't speak to the park and fly options.

Detroit's a long drive (3-4 hours to Windsor plus 45 min from the bridge) but you may find more flights.

Also the 401 between London and Windsor can be tough to drive in winter.

BUF is easy to travel out of. We have been flying from there since 2002 and given the number of trips we have done have probably saved $10k+. For us however from our driveway to the Thrifty parking lot across from the airport is usually 2h 15m which includes the border. Thrifty and the Parking Spot both operate shuttles to the airport from their lots. Frankly it can take that long from home just to get to Pearson and get through the security and US customs lines (or longer).

Most of the time we look for flights somewhere around noon or in to mid afternoon if we are doing a shopping stop and just leave straight from home. For our trip down to Miami in a couple of weeks we have a flight at 6:35 am (yikes). We have the Days Inn booked with parking for the week. Not fancy, but works for us.

We fly from BUF all the time too. We like to just park in the airport long term. You can go on the airport website and there is a parking calculator. It shows the prices in various lots.

We have also done the stay/park/fly at the Days Inn and it was just OK for us. Be aware that some of the hotels take your car keys and can move your car while you are gone. That is absolutely a deal breaker for me. The Days Inn does take your keys but when I refused they just moved someone else's car to put my car in a spot that would not require it being moved. That way I could keep my keys.

We have done DTW a few times and you have more choices of direct/non-stop flight times at a better price. We have stayed at the Baymont Suites which was okay, a bit old but very clean, parking included and no leaving the keys. That said, we have just returned from WDW via BUF and I did like the shorter drive home (we are in Guelph). It is a nice small airport with very little traffic. We use it a lot for other US cities and have parked at the airport and stayed in the hotels. This time we stayed at the Clarion which I would recommend with the proviso that it is old, a bit run down, but it is cheap and has up to 30 days parking included.

Buffalo is a great airport to fly out of. Even with the sinking loonie, flight prices are better than Toronto. (I'm paying almost $500 to fly from Pearson to Halifax next Saturday with Air Canada - 2 hour flight -ouch!). Another option is Allegiant out of the Niagara Falls (US) airport. This is an even smaller airport, very easy to navigate (only two airlines), reasonable parking, and just 5 minutes from the Lewiston Bridge. Only problem is flight selections are somewhat limited. Prices are very cheap, but keep in mind, everything is an add on (luggage, carry on, seat selection, etc).
