Our plan is to take the TGV train to DL and then we would buy a 3-day Paris Visite Zone 1-6 pass for the last 3 days of our trip which will cover us from DL into Paris out to Versailles as well as back to CDG. I know we can probably find a cheaper option but I like the idea of getting 1 pass and then never having to worry about anything. My question is can I buy the Paris Visite card at the airport when we arrive even though I wouldn't want to start using it for several days?

Not sure about at the airport (would assume so at the ticket office) but you can get it at Chessy station easily.

Unless you are going to take advantage of the museum access/discounts a Mobilis zoned ticket gives access to overground and the metro and is much cheaper than the Visite.

I'm really having trouble finding the Mobilis' pricing per zone on-line. I don't speak any French so it just seems buying 1 ticket (even if a little more expensive) would be easier. For example the day we leave DL we would need zones 1-5 and then the next day we plan to go to Versailles we would need zones 1-4 and then the day we return to the airport we would need zones 1-6. See why buying the single ticket may justify higher costs?

The Paris Visite card is a great option for touring Paris and is really easy to use; you're right that the zone 1-6 card will get you everywhere you need to go with one ticket, plus you get the museum and monument discounts.

If you have time before your trip, you can order your pass online and have it before you leave. It will then be activated the first time you use it.

You can also buy them at any station that has an attendant selling tickets (sometimes they only have a person at an information booth who answers questions but doesn't sell tickets). I can't remember if the CDG station has a ticket attendant; it would make sense but you never know! I'll ask my husband tonight if he remembers; he used the RER to get to and from the airport all the time when we lived in Paris.

I just checked with my husband, and he says that yes, you can buy Paris Visite passes at the airport :)

Zones 1 -5 = 13.20
Zones 1 - 4 = 9.80
Zones 1 - 6 = 16.70

So if you tot those up it should give you an idea if a 3 day pass is much more expensive or on a par accepting that it also covers some museum access.

That info was gained from here http://www.ratp.info/informer/mobilis.php

There is also a good thread on TA that covers the airport as well http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187147-i14-k1699433-Mobilis_Ticket-Paris_Ile_de_France.html

Yeah i agree.

Moblis is a much better option if you don't plan to take advantage of the extra Paris visite discount's, which i never do.

And you can easily buy it at the train station at DLP there are windows with people who generally speak good english, or machines which can be selected to english language, if you don't like speaking to people.:)

Looking at that Tripadvisor thread you can't use the Mobilis for airport transportation and I think we may take advantage of enough of the discounts to just about break even with the ParisVisite. Thanks for the advice.

Is it possible to let us know where at the airport can we buy the Paris Visite card?

.... but you can get it at Chessy station easily....

Does anyone know what time the ticket is open to buy the Paris Visite card? I will be traveling from the US and I do not belive the CC will work on self service machines in Europe due to the lack of a chip on the CC.

Hi there

Sorry I'm butting into this thread - I can't answer any of the questions but want to ask more on public transport issue...

1. It looks like 2 days Paris Visite is only slightly dearer than the Mobilis, for zones 1-5, and cheaper for 1-6. What are the benefits of the Paris Visite? We won't be going to lots of museums.

2. Both Paris Visite and Mobilis seem very expensive - can anyone advise on single/return journey fares on the RER?

3. We will be driving to a station, parking, then getting public transport into Paris (no way am I going to even contemplate driving in Paris).
Does anyone know of a station where we can park? And is parking free?

Thanks

Morag

The best thing about a Paris Visite (if you're not going to take advantage of the dicounts) is that it's a multi-day ticket. Mobilis you'll need to buy everyday.

I can tell you that from central Paris (we always left from Charles de Gaulle-Etoile) a round-trip adult RER ticket to DLP is 13 euro. Kids under 10 will be 1/2 price.

A US CC will not work in the self-service machines as was mentioned, because of the lack of a smart chip. What time does your flight get in? I believe the attended kiosks at CDG are open quite early, but unfortunately I can't recall exactly what time. I can ask a few friends who still live in Paris to see if they know.

The mobilis ticket will work out cheaper than single or return journey as it includes a return journey and unlimited use of the paris metro for that day

I'm a little late to this discussion, but I want to point out that the Visit pass is only good for consecutive days. You aren't clear if your return to the airport is the next day after Versailles. If not, a Visit pass won't really work for you.

All Zones, Single Day Tickets, per adult

Visite :- €18,90
Mobilis:- €16,70

For a full week a Navigo card is cheapest.

Navigo Card:- €5,00
Subscription:- €37,20

NB The Visite card for 5 days would be €48,40

RER Examples

CDG Airport to Paris Zone 1: €8,40
Paris Zone 1 to Disneyland Paris: €6,45
Paris Zone 1 to Versailles: €2,90

ie adult CDG to Disney €14,85
-----------------------------------------------------

In my opinion having used all these ticket types,

The Visite card is better for multi-day use.
The Navigo card is better for a one-week stay.
The Mobilis is better for single-day use.

All metro journeys in zones 1 & 2 cost €1.60
