I need help! What do you buy your tall skinny kids to wear? My son keeps getting taller, but doesn't really gain weight so all of his pants are too short. We have bought him 8 slims which fit great in the waist, but are now becoming too short. We've tried 10 slims but they are way too big in the waist. It is still too early for shorts so I am looking for any ideas anyone has so DS doesn't walk around with flood pants.

Try Children's place most of there pants have adjustable waists.

We had the same problem with my older son years ago. I had to buy the bigger waist sizes and take them in. But now i see where they make the levi's in slim tall sizes. He's 27 now and 6'4 and I think his little brother who is 7 is going to be the same way. Good luck. i know it's a pain when shopping for them. I used to dread it.

Old navy sells boys pants that have an inside adjustable waistband. They are great! My 13 year old needs a size 12 length but a 10 (or sometimes 8) waist.
Inside the waistline on the 2 hip side is an elastic sewn in that has a button. You just pull the elastic to how much you need to make the waist fit better and button it secure (if that explanation makes sense). From the outside you can't tell as it doesn't seem to gather. My son loves them!

Here's a link to Old Navy. On the bottom left size is a thing that explains then (and shows you). I believe too that other stores like Sears are following suit with these waistbands.

someone beat me to it, i was going to suggest getting the adjustable waist pants, and then you may be able to go up a waist size to get the better lenght...
for us right now, we are on the opposite end of the field... my 6 yr old is average in height, but needs a much larger size in the waist, so in order for pants to fit him in the waist, they are8 inches tooo long!
The adjustable waist does not help us! :(
cant wait for shorts season!
hehe

My son just wears flood pants. I haven't found anything that will work. He isn't even tall, he is VERY short for his age, but he has long legs for his height and he is skinny. Try high top tennis shoes to fill in the gap between the pants and the shoes.

Levi's run short, so even the 9 slims weren't long enough. Macy's used to carry some Badge jeans that ran long, but they discontinued them years ago.

DS12's buddy is 6' tall already, 7th grade, and skinny, skinny, skinny. His mom gets him jeans from Land's End because you can order an inseam size through them, so she can get the 26" waist with the 36" inseam. THis boy is suppose to be over 7' tall when he is done growing (they did growth testing on him because he was so tall).

DS won't wear the adjustable waist pants because they bunch up when you adjust them and they are very uncomfortable.

You can also find some Lee's and Duck Head jeans that have the adjustable waistband. My DS is skinny too, almost 8 and weighs 42 pounds. They changed the car seat laws here in Tennessee last year to were they have to be 80 pounds or 5 feet tall before they can get out of the booster seat. We tease DS and tell him he will be learning to drive in a booster seat.

DS is tall and skinny...... I have gone thru every brand of jeans out there. Seems the only ones long enuf are the Canyon River Blues from Sears. (Luckily he's too young to care about the brand!) Right now he is wearing a 7X slim....and plenty long enuf! If you have a Sears nearby, try that brand.

We have the tall, skinny problem with DS5. We get Levi's slims. They are about all that work for him for jeans. When I go get him new ones in the fall, he will probably be a 7x.

The adjustable waist pants are a lifesaver for me, and my DS is only (almost)3!! I'm glad to see that you all use them on your older boys too. I have adjustable waist pants for Nate from Old Navy, Osh Kosh, Gap and Children's Place and they all work great. I just put a pair of basketball-style shorts on him this morning. He is nearly 3 and average to tall for height and I bought size 2 shorts. He pulled them up and let go and they literally fell to the ground!!

I'm not sure how my wife did it but she managed to keep my son in clothes all these years. He's a sophmore in college now and will be 20 this June. He is 6' 3" tall and still weighs only 155 lbs. He still has problems finding clothes.

If only my mom was around to ask, LOL, but then again, I can't recall being skinny. :teeth: I always enjoy reading about the daily tribulations (the minor ones) here of all the moms and the young kids growing up. :goodvibes

My DD is a 6x waist but 7 legs...Thankfully Old Navy and Gap have started with the adjustable waists, but she looks like a pack mule with the bunches around her waist!! LOL

I feel your pain...

I found that Arizona jeans (from JCPenney) and some Levi's styles had the best slim fit for my tall skinny boy. Gap also had the adjustable waist pants, but he never really liked those.

He also wore lots of belts to hold the pants up. :teeth:

I'm glad we're going into summer soon... he's close to impossible to fit in long pants right now. He needs a 28 waist and a 33 inseam. We're making do with the few 29x32s I can find. This means he's out of the kids department - 29x32 is boys size 20 slim, and it's been REALLY hard to find. He's only 11 and growing fast. Now his legs are getting longer but he's not getting bigger around, and I can't find longer than 32 inseams in the smaller waists in the men's department.

He may have to live in shorts year round for a while.

Kinda makes ya wonder why manufacturers haven't caught on to our problem??? :confused3

Both of my kids have the adjustable waist pants. DS can wear slim dress pants but the poor boy just looks like a stick in slim jeans. With our DD we have to get adjustable waist pants or slims, plus we have a big problem with right size shirts being too short and shirts big enough so that she isn't showing any belly look huge on her. So I feel your pain!

I have had this problem with both of my sons. Fortunately I can rely on the adjustable waist pants for him, but for my little guy who just turned 2, he's wither in floods or his pants fall down. Yesterday I dressed him in size 12-18 months shorts so they would fit him (fortunately you can do that with shorts) but I have resorted to belt on him for regular pants. I wish the manufacturers would make the adjustable waist for the little guys too! He's got no waist, and when we potty train and he's out of diapers, its gonna be even worse since at least the diaper is giving some padding to fill in the pants!

I feel your pain!

My DS9 is about 51" tall and weighs less than 60 lbs. He can wear size 7 in the waist but the pants are too short. 7X Levi's 526 jeans (with the elastic in the back) fit fine now but won't fit much longer. The BIG problem is pants for school. They are in uniforms and he HAS to wear navy pants (or shorts).

We figured out that Hilfiger pants run fairly skinny in the waist, and they have elastic. Polo also runs skinny, and they run MUCH longer than Hilfiger. So we have managed to get through this year with the Polo size 7 "Andrew" pants. The thing is they cost $30 a pair! We also have good luck with Osh Kosh but finding the right style to use for uniform is tough.

I bought a pair of size 8 pants for him at Dillard's the other day and he looked ridiculous. I could have put another kid in there with him.

I don't love the adjustable waist pants because there is so much extra fabric bunched up, but we may have no choice. We are also making that horrible jump from "boys 4-7" across to "boys 8-20" where they seem to think that having things sized 8/10 is a good idea. HELLO? He can't fill up an 8 PLAIN! Not good. I wish they would still make size 8 pants with ELASTIC in the back like they have in size 7.

my daughter is not tall but she is skinny...she needs a 3t waist and a 5 length...she wont wear anything with buttons, drawstrings or snaps so luckily since she is a girl she wears the 3T pants and they just look like capris LOL!!
