Parents with tall skinny kids!

Our favorites are the Lee jeans from Kohls. They are usually on sale for $13-16 and they come in slim and have an elastic waist inside that you can pull tighter!!! This is from a 50 inch tall 9 year old who only weighs about 60 pounds.

My daughters are another problem -- girls slims are hard to find unless you get Gap, Limited Too, etc.

Same problem here. My son prefers to wear highwaters than to have pants that are loose around the waist. The problem went away around 10 for my older son - he now wears regulars! I'm hoping my younger son broadens out as well - if he can fit in a slim I'll be happy.

DS rarely wears jeans because of this. We have no trouble finding track pants with elastic waists and a draw string (inside the pant) and they work pretty well. You can get them lined or unlined, and many have zippers on the side of the leg so he can put them on over shoes. Have had good luck finding deals at Nike and Addidas outlets, plus Lands End overstocks, etc. Main problem is that they don't wear in the knees as well as jeans, but as DS gets older that's not a big issue any more..... Plus as it gets warmer, he wears shorts under them and can take them off as the day warms up (especially good w/ afternoon recess or PE).

Kinda makes ya wonder why manufacturers haven't caught on to our problem??? :confused3

I think the problem is that the baggy look on boys is still "in style" and they make pants bigger in the waist because of that. Once the baggy look goes out and normal fitting pants are back in, the slims will go back to being slims and we will be able to buy the legnth size we need with the correct waist size.

OK, my DS9 is 60lbs and about 53" tall. What size lee jeans do you get?

DS can easily wear a 7 in the waist but then we get the big "eewww" from big sis(12) if his shorts don't at least touch his knees. It's really hard. We do the elastic waist stuff but we have to really cinch it up if we buy a regular 8 and it's really not a flattering look at that point.

My son usually just buys the bigger size and wears a belt. He prefers them baggy anyways. It's a shame that smaller kids jeans are not sized by waist and length like mens.

This is what I mean.......that look is in for the older kids--not kindergarten and elementary school aged kids! Seems to be one standard length for kids under 10yrs. Even I can't buy jeans in the store (all too short), have to buy "tall" out of catalogs!! When will they realize there are short, average and tall people who shop in their stores with all different sized waists! (that's where I was going) :teeth:

Thanks for all of the great ideas. I will definitely look into some of the suggestions you listed. DS hates to wear a belt, so that is out and he really hates pants that are too big in the waist. I did get lucky as I was in JC Penney today and found Arizona jeans in a 9 Slim. I measured about 10 9 Slims against one another and no two were the same size! I ended up with two (they were buy one, get one for a dollar) and when DS tried them on tonight one pair fit perfect and the other was way too big in the waist! Ugh...another trip back to the store. But I think I will hit Gap and Old Navy and see what they have. Thanks again for your replies, it looks like a lot of folks are in the same boat as we are.
