My daughter passed her WBI this morning and scheduled her interview for next Monday. She is so excited! I'm beginning to wonder about her status as a college student and how many credits her school will give her for the CP etc...
Is there anybody here who can help me understand the process?

You should check with the transfers dept in her school. She can still do the program even if her college won't accept the credits from DCP. It still looks great on her resume! My son had his interview yesterday and the waiting is already excruciating! Good luck!

Thanks! They accept a lot. I just want to make sure she keeps her status current as a full time student.

It really depends on the school, and in some cases by department. My son is a theatre major, and he is getting no credit while down on the program. He enrolled in 6 hours online in order to maintain his enrollment and financial aid. Other students from his school are getting credit for DCP and DCP classes. I think hospitality, recreation, and business majors are. So like I said, depends on the school. Some will, some won't. This was a perfect semester for him to do the program though since much further into his major there is no way he could take a semester off. Good Luck to your daughter :)

My daughter was a CP during her junior year. Initially her school wasn't going to give her credit but she submitted the syllabus for the class she was taking and met with her advisor. We paid for the credits and they were counted as 12 internship credits. There is some information on the CP website you can use to submit to the school. I can tell you that they were probably the most valuable credits she earned. Just having Disney on the resume opened a lot of doors, employers know if you can cut it there you are a great candidate. She graduated in May (Communications) and is doing a second program with hopes of getting a PI or MI. Good luck to everyone!

Thanks for you replies! I guess there are extra classes CP's can sign up for. My dd said she would take online classes, but I would rather she not if she can get credit for the coursework through her school or an affiliate school and transfer the credits.

Epcotitis-

Does she have a College Rep at her school? She should. My DD is one of the reps at her university and the have a handout they made all about this specific to their college. They also will walk everyone through the process of putting scholarships on hold etc. DD is graduating in December and is applying for a second program herself right now. Her only advantage was she was allowed to skip WBI since she is an active CM. She has to do the rest of the process along with everyone else so we are waiting for phone interview as well!

I don't think our small University has a college Rep. She will check with her advisor to make sure they accept the credits. She has to keep 6 or 12 to keep scholarships I think...

My daughter started in May and was between her Soph and Junior year. Her college would not give any credit for the program.

Since she was a bit ahead in her degree progress, we asked her to take two on-line classes during her May - Dec program period.

She decided to take both during the summer - and did well despite working and hitting the parks all the time.

I have since found out that an internship is required and she earns 6 credits. How any credits does she have to take before her loans will kick in and she has to start paying back?

Federal Loans pay at 6 hours. Son is down on the program now. His department wouldn't allow credit, so he is taking 6 hours online.

CP here, my school would not give me any credit for my program, but in order to keep all my financial aid and scholarships I had to remain full time so I'm taking 4 online classes here. It is HARD, a lot of time management, a lot of exhaustion and work goes into it. You can do it if you're responsible enough and work really hard but I spend 5+ hours a week on my homework that I could spend on having a good time. Add work and sleep and fun in there and I'm exhausted. It's not impossible but try as hard as you can to get some kind of credit. :)

My DD is doing Spring Advantage - she will be taking 2 of the classes offered by Disney and those credits will transfer to her college (6 credits to keep financial aid) during the Jan-May time and then she will earn 1 credit from her college during the summer portion (June-Aug). She is a hospitality major and is required to do work in her field in the summers.

My DS applied last night and passed his WBI this afternoon. I don't know who is more nervous ... but I suspect I am! I am concerned about how his University is going to handle this if he is accepted -- he is on almost a full scholarship and enrolled in an honors program, so my main concern is the DCP doesn't interfere with all that. But I am hoping he gets it all worked out because the DCP sounds like a wonderful opportunity! Any advice for a new program parent?

Don't lose those scholarships. He can always do the DCP his last semester or after graduation!

Do check with his school about requirements for maintaining the financial aid/scholarships. My son is doing the program this semester, and this was a concern. For one scholarship he has to maintain 24 hours a year. He is taking 6 online while on the program, and will have to take the other 18 during the spring and next summer. He is also in the Honor's College, but they only require 24 honors hours total, so he is good there. My concern now is what happens if he ends up staying. He is auditioning for Character Performer this week, and if he gets in, he'll be staying another semester.

Late reply I know but my daughters room mate on the program took 2 online courses to maintain her status, but most schools let you take a semester off for internships with approval. Normally students just request this.

Both DD & DS were accepted and coordinated with each other to arrive on the same date.:cool1:

My DS was a CP Spr Adv 2011. I will help with any questions, but my info is 2-3 years old.
