Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

IMO in this type of situation it never hurts to ask. Given his stats etc, we KNOW he is qualified - what we don't know is how UT went about filling their spots etc. after processing all the auto-admits. I wish you/him lots of luck!
Thank you!!

DD just got into Virginia Tech!!!!

All 5 schools have now been heard from - 4 acceptances, 1 rejection. She had her heart set on JMU or Va Tech. Now the fun begins because she has to decide between the two!
Great news!

We took your advice and asked for a review. Long shot, but nothing to lose.

And if they don't offer full admission and scholarships then that just tells me Aggies are smarter than longhorns. :P:D:P

Congrats! What a great problem to have.

So I am finishing up my quote for their senior ad page. We have notes from little brother, two sets of grandparents and great aunt so we are keeping them short and sweet to fit in pictures. The backstory is the twins were 2 months pre-mature and one was very, very ill. So, we did not send out birth announcements until they were 4 months old and it read that we announce "a blessing and a miracle". Please let me know what you think, I am still playing with it.

You have truly been a blessing and a miracle. We are so fortunate to have raised such outstanding gentlemen. We are so proud of all you have attempted, accomplished and achieved. We are so looking forward to what lies ahead. Love, Mom and Dad

v.t. - Love your message and quote! Since you asked for advice, I would try to reword so the last 3 sentences didn't all start the same. It makes your messages sound repetitive even though each sentence is its own important thought. JMHO

I love that you included the item from their announcement! Those dang Sr ads, DD's got rewritten a dozen times before I was satisfied - we were limited to 80 words, I hit it on the nose

I already believe they are smarter. Go Aggies! Whoop!

So out of the four we visited in the past two days she has ruled out Simmons-it was way to small for her. The entire freshman class there was the same size as her high school class!

I've always found it interesting how some schools are selected or ruled out for this reason. For me, and both my sons, a big school held no interest. All three of us graduated from big classes (mine was 400, oldest son's was about 575, and middle son will be 550) and wanted smaller schools because of that. My husband graduated with 42, and wanted a big school.

DD spent her early years thru 8th grade in a small charter school. Her high school has approx 2K and it scared her at first but then she got used to it. Originally her college search was only small small schools with populations similar to her high school. Then she discovered living learning communities and suddenly the large schools were not quite so intimidating.

500 is a big class? My DDs class is about 500 and I don't consider it big. Heck, my graduating class was over 1,000!

Was the 1,000 student class size a regional HS? Where we live the class sizes are between 500-600 but it is just for our town. My class size was 650, just our town

No, it was a high school in the city of Chicago.

Just wanted to express my frustration... my daughter decided back in Nov on a whim she wanted to take the ACT and scored a 30. She's 9th in a class of 430. Has taken almost all AP classes both junior and senior year. She has a great GPA too. Temple has offered her $5000 in merit money:( She wanted to take it again and got her score today and got a 33!! But it is too late for Temple, apparently you only get one offer from them. They won't even consider this accomplishment:headache: Okay, rant over.

It could be that they won't accept the most recent ACT for merit. Some of the schools that my DD applied to won't accept scores after December.

Ah, that stinks. Great score though!

My class was 41 kids...DD's (same school but with a couple more towns added now) is about 54. We think 500 is a big class! :p

The school district to the south of us has classes of less than 10. They are hanging on by a thread. The school district we live in (DDs are open enrolled to the town where I work) had classes of around 15 but starting this year the high school joined with another so probably 50+ in a grade now. I'm really glad I didn't send my kids to that school- my girls would be finishing high school 25 miles from home, in the opposite direction from the town I work and we do everything in.
