Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

LOL!!! I am in the same boat with twins going off to college. While both were auto admits, one did get accepted into the Engineering school 1.5 weeks before the other. After about a week DS2 was ready to go visit other schools, but once the acceptance came he was good. While they have the similar majors, they do not want to room or even live in the same dorm. What do your DDs plan on doing?

Glad to know I'm not alone! It's been 12 days since the first daughter received notification and still nothing for the other. But who's counting!!! LOL

One of my daughters will be studying elementary education, with a specialization in ESL. The other is going to major in speech therapy. So they are studying different majors. Similar to your boys, mine do not want to live in the same room and probably not the same dorm either as they are hoping to live in a dorm specific to their major (depending on where they go to school). I can't imagine the fights they would get into if they were in the same room! LOL And the poor third person if they were in a triple!!!

I just can't wait until this is all over and done with. So many of their friends have heard already it just makes it 10x worse!

Good luck to your boys!

The waiting is really starting to wear on us. I hate to admit it, but it's putting a damper on Christmas. Several of his friends found out about UT recently, and still nothing for my DS. It's killing our collective Christmas spirit.

I'm still up watching TV
I could hear DS banging down our steps , sees me and yells I got in I got in. Their data base is updated at midnight so he's been anxiously checking every night.
He woke up my husband, texted my mom and woke her up. Lol
Obviously no one cares and is just so happy the stress of getting in to his #1 is over.
Whew. What a relief!!

Ugh, that is tough, one hears the other doesn't. Keeping fingers crossed

Same here. DD is anxious which trickles to all of us - in the end she did not apply to UT, she put her eggs into the Minnesota basket and hasn't even applied to Texas State yet, she is "waiting" Thankfully, she leaves for 2 weeks in Hawaii with her BFF/Family on Monday, hopefully the break will be good for all of us. So far not many of DD's friends have heard from their schools of choice. A few did early decision, the kid who wanted Columbia, did not get in, one of her really good friends is supposed to hear from MIT by tomorrow. Lots and lots of anxiety all over.

Two weeks in Hawaii sounds amazing. I trip to the islands would hit the spot right about now.

So far heard from four that my daughter applied to and all four are acceptances. The latest was U Mass Lowell and they gave her the highest scholarship they give to out of state kids- 20,000 plus an additional 4,000 a year to assist a professor in research project. With a few thousand in financial aid that would bring tuition down into the mid teens.

Same here! Everyone is on edge and I know this is why.

That's great!!! U Mass Lowell is a great school!

Sweet deal! Congrats, that is awesome. Is UMass a top choice for her?

His number one is Penn State University
Main campus
It's about 3 hours from where we live
As my son said close enough but not too close

Thank you!

Just wanted to share that I just logged into the portal and DS was accepted to UW-La Crosse. You all are the first to know :) He is still at school. Not his first choice but definitely on his short list! It took longer to hear than I thought it would, so seeing the acceptance is a relief...

Awesome! My DD still has to apply there. We visited it a couple weeks ago and she didn't like that (1) it's a mostly closed campus and (2) there were no sorority houses because of local laws and (3) the dorm rooms were on the small side. She did like (1) that it was a compact campus and easy to get around, (2) it appeared that academic support and tutoring was very easy to use, (3) no need to buy books (!), (4) the free bus to the downtown and (5) she can have her car with her. I need to find another UWLAX student for her to talk to so she can get the scoop from them.

So happy for all of your kids who have received acceptances! That must make things a little less stressful!

DD applied ED to her top choice (reach) school and was deferred. Now she has to submit the rest of her applications and hopefully she'll hear good news from a couple of them, but that won't be until the spring!

We got our 1st acceptance! DD was accepted into the Nursing program. (Around here, it's very competitive to get into Nursing programs. There just aren't a lot of spots.) She also got a nice Dean's scholarship.

Yesterday, she received an email from one of her schools (a backup) that they were going to start emailing decisions this Friday, and it will take a month to email everyone. They will be completely random and not to "freak out" if your friends get a decision but you don't. *LOL*

Congrats to all that have gotten good news. Good luck to all those waiting. Dd will be waiting for her 1st choice until march.

DD got accepted early action into Northeastern in the college of science with a dean's scholarship.

Freak out at our house. Niece is already in at 3 very decent schools (with merit money) but tonight they are the wrong schools and she'll never get a job and she'll wind up working as a greeter at Walmart. We won't hear from any of the other schools she applied to until February (and some not until April, I think). She's thinking of applying to more schools before the January deadlines. Of course her list was carefully chosen and there may be one or two schools out there she might like, but really...

Hopefully he will find out soon, but the waiting is torture, on everybody.

So excited for DS and you! How fun that he was so excited that he had to share the news with everyone.

Congrats!!! I would love to see some scholarships at this house.

Congrats to DS! I am sure he was thrilled that your Dis Friends knew before he did. LOL

Unfortunately not- it was one of her safety schools but she wouldn't mind going there which is good because they are offering her a lot of money- she hasn't heard from her top schools yet because she hasn't applied to them yet LOL. She is sending them all in during the next two weeks- they all have fee waivers through questbridge too so that is good!

DD got waitlisted. This is her dream school. Oh well, better than being rejected. It's a tough school to get into.

Congrats to your DD. What is her major?

Three of my sons friends got into Yale yesterday. Three!! I'm very happy for them, as is my son. I could see the sadness in his eyes though. He wants to be present for his friends, meanwhile our stupid state school will not throw him a bone. It's a tough time right now.
