We are still waiting to hear back from Temple about our appeal for scholarship amount. The waiting is killing us. We paid her deposit and housing deposit bc last weekend were the Days to sign up for housing. Hoping and praying!!!!

We didn't appeal scholarship amount but we did appeal financial aid amount- I wrote to them regarding the massive difference in my salary from 2015 to now- most then asked for my 2016 income tax which is great because that shows my income cut in half from 2015 (due to retirement buyouts in 2015 it inflated my income to double what I make). I know Wednesday one college she applied to is emailing their acceptances out and the rest are all April 1st- this waiting is killing me!!

Our son received his acceptance to Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Four more decisions over the next two weeks.

My DD went to her very last club swim meet this weekend . It was the Speedos Sectional Championship Meet which hosts the best swimmers from multiple states. She made finals in both of the events in which she was qualified and swam personal bests in both events in prelims and then again in finals. She also swam a personal best in her bonus event, moving up nearly 40 places from her seed time. She went out with a BANG! Her club coach asked her if she had changed her mind about swimming in college since she had such a great championship season (13 swims with 12 PBs) and she said, "No. I'm ready to apply the things I learned in swimming to the rest of my life." I am going to miss being a swim mom (even though I have summer rec season left) but I am so proud of the awesome and mature daughter I have! She's learned so much from swimming competitively and if she can use those skills in college she'll be just fine!

Soooooo, we lived in Northern Nevada (near Lake Tahoe) until DD was in 8th grade - then moved to Texas. DD always talks about how she misses the snow and the cold winters. One of her "requirements" for college was someplace cold.

It's spring break here and she is currently in New York City touring Hofstra and playing tourist with her BFF/family all week. She is going to get to witness the epic snowstorm of the century in person, I wonder what she will think of the cold now...............

Spent all day yesterday at Hofstra for admitted students day, then to Ellis Island today - said its cold but sunny with no wind......Just wait LOL
They are staying in a Airbnb - they have lots of provisions! The parents of the BFF went along and they are well seasoned travelers

I know this comes across as braggy (and a little bragging is OK!) but we were discussing this a few pages back. Our kids are facing some steep odds with many of these schools. This article says that current fifth year seniors at Georgia Tech had a 55% admit rate when they applied. This year's applicants have a 23% admit rate. The number of applications jumped from 14,700 to 31,400 during that period.

In any event, very proud of our son for all of his hard work and I know that all of you (despite some of the odd decisions these kids make) are very proud of your children as well. We are starting to see the end of the road. robinb's swimming story hits home and I am starting to shuffle work responsibilities to be present at various functions.

Our son says he cannot wait to leave South Carolina. He also says he prefers cold weather - I think he has seen snow on two or three occasions so he has no real experience. They have this idea that somewhere other than home will be better. I would like to send him to Philadelphia or Boston tomorrow to experience cold weather.

That's amazing that the number of applicants doubled in just 5 years and you are totally allowed to brag that your son made it! Especially when the out of state acceptance rate is so low. Bask in the glory for a while even if it's not his first choice. BTW, thanks too for the link. I'm now reading the blog posts of Richard Clark (one of the admissions counselors at GT) and I'm tucking away some information about the admissions and tour process.

I sit here at my desk and it's snowing. We drove 180 miles home last night in a heavy snow going only 45-MPH instead of the 65-70 MPH it took to get there. I wonder about these kids from the south who all want cold and snow!

The thing about blizzards is that they are actually kind of fun the first time around. As winter wears on, they become increasingly tiresome and more of an inconvenience and nuisance than anything else. We have actually had a pretty mild winter around here (Boston area), snow wise, but it's March and we are ready for spring. But, I would think that if this is their first blizzard of the season, they may actually enjoy it.

DS feels really good about his interview and I found out they only interviewed 15 kids for 5 scholarships, so fingers crossed!
Also waiting to hear from one more long-shot school. They say we will know for sure by April 1, so one way or the other this agonizing wait is almost over!

DD and a few other girls were supposed to start off the track season last night with an indoor meet, but since the coach that was going to take them has the flu, they didn't go. It's just an extra thing that they take a few of the better runners to, it doesn't count for anything, but DD was hoping to go and see what time she is running 400s right now. But, since she was home for the evening, we decided we'd better do graduation invitations while Shutterfly had 50% off. The site was rather glitchy, but she ended up making 4 different designs and we ordered a total of 125 between the 4 designs. That's a good job done.

Today starts a coupon for a free 8x8 book so I'm getting one with all her senior pictures in it. I also want to order some prints of her growing up years. I didn't get that done last night but they are starting 40% off today which is almost as good as 50% off.

Is anyone else anxiously awaiting MIT's decision for ds/dd today? For ds, it is a huge longshot, even though he has all the grades and scores within reach. I think it's a long shot for everyone who applies. Making a cherry pi and we'll all check the results at 6:28pm.
