My son attends UW-Milwaukee-He will be 24 in June and he almost got a full ride. He didn't have to claim our income this year- He waited 2 1/2 years before he went to college. So sometimes it pays to wait and go out into the working world-that was his decision.

Wow--Good for him!!! I love hearing stories like that.

DD has accepted at FSU. We got an email telling her what her scholorships are, but I still have documents they want turned in. I thought I'd turned everything in. It goes on and on!

Things are fairly calm here. DS applied to 2 schools and was accepted at both. He made his decision and we mailed the deposit this morning. Still one more marking period and he needs to keep his grades up where they've been.

Soon I will have an empty nest with DD a sophomore in college now. So, I am not in a rush for it to end.

BTW, they will be at the same school.

Yup, we're all set too. My DS got accepted before Christmas and the deposit has been sent in. But he'll be 3 hours away. , now that makes me sad. I'll miss him alot. But I know he'll be happy here.

We do have to forego the graduation party though. We're going to DW for a week and a 7 day Disney cruise 3 weeks after graduation!! So we'll take him out to a nice dinner instead. He'll be going to a million parties too, I'm sure.

We'll have to start a packing thread this Summer to compare notes on what to take in September. This is all new to me, so I'll need big time tips. But thats later. Lets all get thru graduation first!

We did the exact same thing...2004 both my DS' graduated, #1) College & #2) High School.

Now in 2000 they both graduated #1) High School and & #2) 8th grad private school...well DH & I did it UP big. Planned a party for both to share for 6 months PRIOR. Booked a hall, hired a band, a caterer, a photographer, a decorator for the hall, ordered invitations etc etc...THAT WAS EXHAUSTING.

Fastforward to 2004 we offered them 7 days in VEGAS as vs any parties...they GRABBED it in a heart beat....yeah for me no big party planning...the trip planning was a ton of fun.

We had been to WDW in the winter prior so they hopped at a trip to VEGAS!!!

SO MANY MEMORIES!!!! Have FUN with all this, no matter how overwhelming all this college stuff goes...My oldest graduated 2004 from a big private catholic college here in the Northeast and I cried WORSE at his college grad than h.s. so damn emotional...now DS #2 is at the same college Class of 2008!!! YEAH, I am almost done.....

P.S. Post back in early August for college bound info...I am sure there will be a ton of DISer's that will assist in your preparations.

DS has several acceptances and is on a couple of wait lists. I suspect I know which school he is going to choose, but he is still waffling a bit. He has tons of info on spreadsheets. But he'll be sure when he finally makes that decision.

We've got a lot on our plate the next few weeks: the prom, the decision about school, his party, graduation, etc. (Not to mention all of DD's spring activities such as her ballet recital and my mom's gall bladder surgery!) But it'll all be over too soon and he'll be going away.

Yes, I am feeling stressed. Our ds on the other hand thinks life is a big game and he wants to have lots of fun. Sigh, sigh. He applied to one college and was accepted. I used to work there and they accept 80% of freshman applicants. Its a commuter college and he will live at home. I am not happy about that. We would prefer he go away. He also applied to the state university and we havent heard from them. They say they only accept about 25% of freshman. I told him not to hold his breath. He also didnt get a scholarship that was from my dh work, we werent expecting that either. He is taking 3 ap classes and I told him to concentrate on that, he chose to play baseball instead. Sigh, sigh, he works part time, he is going to the prom, we arent paying for any of it and just hope he enjoys himself, that is a whole different story, I have posted about. We bought him a used car and payed for his class trip to disney may 21, we are also going on our last family trip to disney april 11. Now he is asking about other colleges, gee a little too late if you ask me. One is also a commuting college and the other I told him he would have to have housing for. He doesnt seem to think this is major business etc. Oh well. Some people learn things the hard way, unfortunately he is always one of those people, very strong willed and stubborn etc. I look at it like he is my learning experience and with 2 more teens to go I am learning alot!! Also add in my aunt is terminally ill with cancer and I know this is so devestating to my ds, she has until about may according to the dr. Good luck to all the senior parents!!

Yikes! I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's all so stressful but exciting at the same time. It's just sooooooo much at once!

Tonight is the fitting for the prom "gown". It is truly beautiful but way more than I wanted to spend. Maybe we should keep this thread going as a "support" thread.

Today is killing me . . .

We have 3 hours until DD finds out whether she was accepted/rejected at one of her "reach" schools. Then we have 24 hours to wait to find out about another "reach" school, her final one.

She already has 3 acceptances, but I'm very nervous for her. I'm trying to keep calm on the surface, but my stomach has butterflies!

I still have no idea where she's going in the fall.

I could use a support group, so keeping this thread going is a great idea. On a much brighter note, we found DD's prom dress on clearance for $19.99!!! It will cost more than the dress to alter it, but I'm not complaining. It's beautiful, and exactly what she wanted.

Thank you. I was stunned at the price of the dress. I expected to pay much, much more. She was looking for an emerald green dress (she has long auburn hair and thought it would complement it - I agree) and there aren't a lot of those around here, mainly pastels and blacks. We were very lucky!

I hope the mailman does bring good news, but since they are "reaches", I'm not optimistic (trying not to get my hopes up, I guess). But again, she's already got three very good choices, so she's fortunate.
