Parents of autistic children, which hotels do you stay at?

I am so surprised that no one has said Fort Wilderness! Fort Wilderness is AMAZING! My daughter LOVES the petting zoo, being able to ride her bike, the CHip & Dale sing a long and the campfire and movie every night! I love that in the cabins you can have cereal or what ever else food you want (you can even have it delivered from the garden grocer) so you dont have to go trampling around to find food! My daughter adores spinning around in the gold carts and looking at the horses! Plus you cant beat the playgrounds and teatherball courts! I especially love the privacy and peace!
The cabins are AWesome, they have bunk beds and room for a family!

i did say fort wilderness homes, see post 10 :santa: but what i did forget was we had stayed at cbr he enjoyed the playground and the slides many many times!

We like AS Movies. Our 6 yr old loves Toy Story and Herbie, so he was in heaven :)

We stay at the value - AS Mo & Mu. For us, it's just a place to sleep or a pit stop. I would LOVE to stay at AKL but that's not happening anytime soon.

Values are what's in my budget, so that's where we stay.
Just stayed at All Star Movies and my autistic son LOVED IT! They have the water splash jets over by the kiddie pool and also in the Herbie section - probably his favorite part of the trip.

Hi,
I'm wondering which hotels you have stayed at with your autistic children and how did they like it?

our autistic DS (10) loved POP...loved it !!! we recently bought into DVC and we took him around to the other resorts to see which he felt most comfortable at. the winner was AKV he loved the whole feel of the place. i find no matter where i take him if i just tell him ahead of time what to expect he seems to do really well. GOOD LUCK

When my son was younger we stayed at resorts that were closest to the theme parks we visited the most. This would mean split resort stays.
Here's what we did.

We would stay at the Grand Floridian or Wilderness Lodge when visiting Magic Kingdom and that would be a four to five day stay so that we could swim in between park visits. When visiting Disney Hollywood Studios and EPCOT, we would stay at the BoardWalk Villas in a one bedroom for about five more days. Staying close to the theme parks would enable me to take my son back to the resort for a rest and a swim.

Now that he's nine, we're able to enjoy our Hilton timeshare and just drive in and spend the day at the parks and he's fine.:santa:

we stayed at WL 3 times, ASMovies once, Pop once, and are planning to go back to Pop again on our next trip. :thumbsup2 I would love to try to stay at the Poly (for the convenience of the monorail), but the budget just doesn't allow it right now.

A lot of people find that staying at a resort closest to the park you intend to visit the most helps a lot. As one poster mentioned that makes it easy to get back and forth to that park.

Another think to consider is whether your child would have any problems with the theming at that resort. For example, the pool at Boardwalk has a clown slide where people come down the slide out of the clown's mouth. Some people without ASD have a problem with that! :scared1:

Port Orleans French Quarter has a Mardi Gras theme. The food court has some giant Mardi Gras masks and other Mardi Gras parade decorations. The walkway to the pool and the pool area have Jazz playning alligators (think of the movie Fantasia where alligators and hippos are dancing).

You can find lots of pictures on the www.wdwinfo.com part of the DIS site, both in the resort info pages and also on the DIS posters' picture pages.

Dd is 13 and has Asperger's. We have always stayed at the CBR and she loves it. It is nice and quiet for her and the main pool isn't overly crowded.

My son is 5, ASD, and his favorite is Pop (he loves letters and numbers). He would rather sit in the numbers, play on the giant keyboard, or read all the phrases than go to a park any day! Runner up is ASMovies for the dalmations section, he loves standing in the TV!

Hi,
I'm wondering which hotels you have stayed at with your autistic children and how did they like it?

We have stayed at WL (2 times), AKL, and Poly with our boys and they have always been very happy, espcecially at AKL. This time we are staying at a value. So, where have you all stayed? Is there a hotel that you thought was a bad choice for your child after the fact?

If you are considering Pop, I made my son a scrapbook after our first trip so that he could remember what HE liked about our trip, if you would like to see the online version...
