Parents...it worked!

A few months ago I posted about punishing DS 11 from towels because he always left his wet towel on the floor in his room after a shower. I took all of the towels out of his bathroom and he had to dry off with a wash cloth. I posted to see if y'all thought this was too extreme. Most of you were supportive, a few thought the punishment was degrading. With your encouragement I stuck to the punishment for a week.

Well, I am happy to report that my son now hangs up his towel after every shower! At least once a week when I am in his bathroom and see the towel hanging there on the towel rack I tell him how much I appreciate him hanging the towel after his shower. He always replies that he does not want to go back to drying off with a wash cloth again.

I'm glad he got the idea. Good job giving him positive reinforcement for hanging up his towel.

I would never thought of doing that washcloth thing---hmmmm--my husband still leaves his wet towel on the floor. Do you think it's too late to teach a 55 year old man a new trick?

Sounds like logical consequences to me - glad it worked. I didn't see the last thread so I don't know if you use a regular towel bar. I put pegs in the bathroom for my kids towels and it works great. They can toss it on there with minimal effort and I don't feel the need to straighten!

I like the peg idea, disykat. I am in the market for a new towel bar in that bathroom anyway. My thought is to replace the cheap, plain, builder-installed towel bars with some that have a bit of pizazz. I am going to install the old towel bars in the garage so we have a place to hang our towels when we come home from the pool.

Hmmmmm, I might have to try that with Vince, LOL. He seems to accumulate them there on the floor. Wonder what he does at the firehouse.
