Parents guide to Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

It's too bad really, after Episode 1, which was basically a live action cartoon called "Anikin's big adventure with JarJar", and the second "teen angst" episode, adn top this one off with all the direct marketing to small kids (a Lego version of the video game?), it really stinks, cause my 5YO really wants to see it, but won't get to.

Anyone familiar with the story of Darth Vader knew this movies was going to be very dark, with complicated, adult themes and concepts, but shame on Lucas for marketing it to such young kids.

Thanks for the link. Helpful in deciding whether to take 5 yr old son. He is a huge Star Wars Fan and he and my DH are going on Friday.

Tinkerbelle739,

I'm a huge huge SW fan and while I haven't seen it yet, It might be best for you to see it first to make sure it's alright. There are more than once scene from what I have heard that could frighting a younger kid, who doesn't understand what's going on.

Yes it is a darker SW movie than the rest, but that was expected.

theres more viloence on TV and in video games than in this
i feel people are over reacting alittle
people have to decide what is right for there kidsi will be seeing it friday and then deciding if my son can go
hes 6 he has seen all th other fils plus all the lord of the rings movies
he isnt a violent child
and they ut annikans arm off in the last movie and lukes hand in empire
and while theres more violence in this i dont think its anything mote tha kids see anywhere else
just my opinion

I have read the novelization of the story. Yes, there is violence, but as is usual in a Star Wars film, it won't be overly bloody. But if I had a 5 year old, I don't think I would take him/her to the movie. It isn't so much that Anakin/Darth Vader kills people, it is the people he kills--there is violence against young Jedi's.

I took my boys on opening day...they are 10 1/2 and 8 1/2. The 10 year old thought it was very cool. The 8 1/2 actually had tears in his eyes at one point. He became a big fan of Anakin's in the previuos two movies and he knew that he becomes Darth Vader..but I think seeing him turn evil and the battle scene with Obi Wan was hard for him to watch. :( I knew about the other scenes already and I did warn them about it and explained it's just a movie, etc. Normally we would see the movie again in the theater, but this one we won't.

I have seen the movie now 5 times, going again this afternoon and then twice on Sunday and have gone with differen't groups of friends so with older kids and some with younger kids. IMPO except for the last 10 minutes this movie isn't that bad. None of the kids cried or anything like that and they really don't show the younglings being killed except during a 5 sec hologram clip.

And this is sad, JMO.

Poor kid. I felt the same way watching it and Im a tad older than he is, lol. My 5 yr old had be dying to see it and I took him with my 15 yr old to see it yesterday. He wasnt scared and in fact asked last night to go see it again,

Thanks everyone! I have been debating on wether or not to let my kids see this.I am going to let my DS9 see it but not my DS7. My DS7 was scared in Spy Kids. :confused3

My DS5 loved it as well. He got angry when I hid his eyes at the part where Anakin walks in on the young ones, but I really thought they were going to show Anakin go wild. Glad they didn't. He loves all the SW movies and this one was no different. I hope we can go see it again this weekend.

I appreciate this. I haven't seen I or II and have no desire to see this one either, but DH wants to take DS (almost 7). DS LOVES all the LOTR movies and DH insists that this isn't any worse than those. I have that link bookmarked to show him later.
BTW I did like IV, V and VI.

DS 7 and I saw it last night and he was just fine. I personally think too much is being made out of the last 10 min. Also the whole "younglings" situation went right over his head.

My son will be going this week. He's looking forward to it. He was great during the Lord of the Rings, he'll be fine with this. My DS is 9.

Thanks - but on the link you gave, it has a part to highlight. When I do, it is too light to read!!! :confused3 :(

Is this one much worse than the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Mummy & the Mummy Returns (with Brenden Frasier), the Indiana Jones movies, or Pirates of the Caribbean??

While my DH & I will see it soon in the theater, I think we will just wait until it comes out on DVD for DD5 to see it. That way she will be in a more "controlled" atmosphere. Also, there will be no chance that she will ruin the movie for those who paid to see it in the theater.

I had a really hard time deciding what to do about my boys, but we ended up taking them. DH saw it alone first and didn't think it was too bad for them, so we took them. The part about the younglings went right past them, and I didn't think the last part was much worse than Pirates of the Caribbean was.

DS 9 thought it was sad, but enjoyed it. DS 5 slept through most of the last 30 min. DS 4 (almost 5) did fine and didn't really have a lot to say about it. It definately wasn't as appealing to the little guys as the others are, but it didn't upset them at all.

Dh and I are going back by ourselves on Tuesday. I will watchit again and then decide if my 5 and 9 year old can go. My 9 year old son wants to go badly!! He really got into the Star Wars films. DD 5 wants to go a little, but she'll really be interested in all that happens if we take them. After doing Star Wars Weekends for the last two years, they are really interested in anything they think is Disney related.
