I think it is natural to feel a little bit guilty when we can't give our children everything they may want. However, I think it is much better in the long term if they learn early that everything comes with a cost and you have to make choices about how to spend your money and prioritize based on your needs and wants and those of your family.
This is one of our constant discussions as the kids grew up. Some families like to spend their money fancy cars or designer clothes or the latest electronics. Our family likes to spend on vacations. My kids have been hearing this for so many years they can probably recite it word for word.

The county fair is here and I would love to take the kids. We don't normally do the fair as I always tell the kids that we save our money for the real amusement park- Disney. So they'll only been to the fair once when they were little kids. But I look at those crazy prices and want to say forget it! $8 per person just to get it. Wristbands are $30 and they only have 2 wristband nights. Otherwise I think it's $3-$5 per ride. Crazy!
