Parents & Disneyworld lovers. Do you ever take a trip w/out the kids? If so how?

Personally, I wouldn't do it. My boys are 18 and 15 and still love Disney parks. We've taken them to WDW twice and Disneyland many, many times. I love taking them on trips. We always have such a good time and can't wait to go back. The time will come soon enough that they can't or don't want to vacation with us. Until then, I'm going to spend as much time with them as I can. DH and I have taken weekend trips without them, but not to Disney. That's our family place!

I don't think I would do it. Disney is our family place although DH and I did go there before DD was born. Take a couples only vacation to somewhere else sure....but I don't think I could do it at Disney. Everyone is different though, and if it is something you really want to do, go for it.

Since your son is so fond of WDW, I think he is going to be heartbroken if you tell him you are going and not taking him. I know everyone's different but I could never go and leave my children home. My husband and I love our family vacations at Disney, I can't imagine going without them.

I'm sorry but I disagree with this. You have no idea if the OPs son is going to be "heartbroken" or not. I have a pretty sensitive DS9 who LOVES WDW...I mean, LOVES. Constantly watching videos on you tube, reading books about Disney, you name it. His feelings are hurt pretty easily so I was a bit worried when I told him we were going without him in March. He said, "Oh yeah, I know. Heard you talking to Nana about it last week. Have fun!"

He wasn't even bothered enough by it to bring it up to me before I told him. Now, I can understand those of you who say you don't want to go to WDW without your kids...nothing wrong with that. But, I don't think you can make the generalization that kids are going to be heartbroken if their parents go without them!

When my youngest was about 4 and in daycare, we were in the car on the way to work one morning & here's the conversation we had.

DD: Daddy, you don't have a lunch
Me: It's okay
DD: But, Daddy you need a lunch
Me: Oh, it's fine. I have plans
DD: What are you going to do?
Me: I have plans with TJ and Rodney
DD: Where will you go?
Me: Well, we're going out
DD: But where?
Me: Well, we're going to Pizza Hut

Long pause followed by the saddest, faintest voice from the backseat
DD: I like pizza

So, every Tuesday for many many months, I swung over to pick up DD from daycare before heading to Pizza Hut with my coworkers. Now, if I can't sneak off to Pizza Hut without her, I am DARN sure not going to try to go to Disney without her :rotfl2:

So yeah, to those of you who can pull it off, my hat is off to ya :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for all the replys!

My son is pretty sensitive, and he teared up when we brought this up.... and he is also very BRILLIANT! Because HE is the one that found the perfect solution! I said something to the fact that Grandma Toni could come up and watch him for the week. He was still pretty sniffly, sad... and then he's like, "Wait! Mom! How about you fly me to Nebraska on your way to Disneyworld, and I can stay w/Grandma Toni so I can play w/Jake and Cameron all week!" ... his 2 cousins he adores!

So yes! It might be a bit more expensive to stop off at the Omaha airport on the way down, but it solves our problem! The kids is so stinkin' smart! He's happier than happy now about it!

Genius little dude that I adore. Big happy sigh~ :cool1:

That's being a good Daddy.

I'm glad the OP's son was able to help her figure out a good solution. I personally would not leave DS at home to go to WDW, but if it works for other families that is fine. WDW is our happy family place.
