This past weekend, we went to my sister-In-Law's house for a Birthday Party for my 5 year old neice.
One of her presents that she received was a Baby Bratz doll (the one named Chloe)..... these are the little sisters of the Bratz Dolls. Well, when someone pulled her mini-skirt up it was discovered that the little Baby Brat doll was wearing a THONG :earseek: :earseek:

We all just kind of laughed it off. :teeth: My kids are teens now, so I don't get real worked up about things anymore myself, but I just wanted to let some of you know about this.
I personally don't think it's a big deal, but I wonder what the rest of you think of this.
Here is a pic of the doll that she received (sorry, I didn't take a pic of the actual doll with the thong showing.... I would have posted it for you).

They had a story on that here in Orlando. The family complained and the company sent them a pair of "regular" underwear.

I am totally against those Bratz dollls. I would never buy one for my child (no offense to those who do, it's just not my style). I see them as prematurely sexualizing little girls - those pouty lips, sultry eyes, skimpy outfits...I mean, come on! Do our children really need this as the ideal vision of beauty? Ugh. The whole thing creeps me out! And...last time I checked, being a BRAT was a bad thing...now we're telling little girls that being bratty is desirable? No way.

I'm not crazy about the Bratz dolls, but I never really thought Barbie set a realistic standard of beauty either.

And to think, Barbie was just scandalous! ;)

The difference, to me, is that Barbie was meant to be a young woman. These dolls are meant to be young girls.

I agree, they're just plain overly sexualized and creepy. Plus, the name is a huge turn off for me.

There's no way I'd get my little girl one of those, and it has nothing to do with what she might (or might not) be wearing under that miniskirt.

I'm by no means a prude, but I can't stand these dolls. We always joke about going down the "Ho" aisle in the toy section.

Personally I'm surprised they're wearing anything at all down there given the rest of the image those dolls put out there.

I find it sad that they are still around. It means many people are buying them.

OMG

To steal from Woody

IT'S A TOY!!!!!!!

Remember they see and hear EVERYTHING!

No seriously if a toy gets some people this wound up I would really hate to see what happens when actually serious things happen around them.

Barbies, bratz, etc they are dolls...teach your girls to like themsleves and see beauty in the eye of the beholder and they will be fine.

Same with gi joes, power rangers etc for boys...not every boy will be big and strong like a gi joe, or have special powers like a PR but where is the outrage over that? How about Ken, not everyone looks like him either.

But you know what would you buy a guy doll of a 30 something overwieght wearing sloppy clothes...no. They make what sells!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

again teach them to like everyone of race color, etc...and who cares with what they play...you raise your kids not the toys.

There's a huge difference between GI Joe, Ken doll, and Bratz. Obviously, not all boys will grow up to be "big and strong" like GI Joe. That's not the point. A GI Joe doll teaches kids to role play (soldier, doctor, vet, mommy). GI Joe is an age-appropriate doll. A doll that looks like a 10-year-old sexpot is not, plain and simple. I feel that, no matter what we tell our kids, our actions ("Oh, honey, here is your new Bratz doll - isn't her teensy skirt that barely covers her a@s adorable?!") also send a message.

And, to me, part of raising your kids is making the decisions you feel are best for them. For me, giving my 6 year old daughter a doll that looks like a toddler street walker is something I would never do because I don't think it would be good for her - for a variety of reasons. Just like I wouldn't let her eat Twinkies for breakfast or wear shorts to school on a cold day. I also wouldn't buy a little girl a t-shirt that said "Diva" or "I'm Not Listening" across the front. It's all just a personal opinion.

There was a big to do here in L.A. when the Abercrombie (kids) opened they were selling thongs for 7 year olds, here's the kicker they couldn't keep them in stock. Now my daughter is closing in on 5 and I was joking that she'll be wearing thongs before I do...eventually they will have thong diapers...I just hope she doesn't ask for them, I don't know what my reaction will be, proabably pure disbelief!

I agree about the sayings on children's shirts nowadays...it's like we are saying it's okay for them to misbehave...and even anticipated!

Are you serious?! Thongs for 7 year olds!! Yeesh!!

Those dolls are so politically incorrect that I like them for that reason.

BTW GEM, your son is so cute and my has he grown! :goodvibes

I'm glad I found this thread. I thought it was just me. I saw one of these a BJ's the other day I immediately found it creepy. It's supposed to be a baby and yet the skimpy clothes and the make-up and the safety pin on the packaging. I didn't even know about the thong! I don't even have any girls (3 boys) but I won't be buying this doll for any little girls I know. I'm no prude but those dolls are just creepy!

My little Gdaughter rec'd several at her 5th BD party last year. She didn't have any, as her parents do not like the image they portray. I think they gradually disappeared. ;)

The look became popular for other doll series after Bratz came out. I was very unhappy when the Madeline dolls were updated for fuller lips and eyes instead of the simple innocent dolls they had appeared to be in the past.

Of course they didn't look nearly as frightening as the who..Bratz

Hoochies in the making, aren't they...

(But of course, I guess big-breasted anime figures aren't much better... :p)

100% agree with you (but that isn't suprizing!)

I didn't know that about the doll, I don't pay muc attention to them and we don't have them in our house. I knew I didn't like them for many reasons. (#1 my kid is not a brat nor do we glamerize this.) Last christmas we were looking at the toys R us flyer and DD saw bratz and said "I don't like them" then she saw Strawberry Shortcake and said "I don't have any of those dolls mom, can I have one of them." I have to admit I was so proud of her choice to not like the bratz, she got a strawberry shortcake doll. I have been weary to let barbies in the house too, just because I thought she was too young and had lots to time for them when she was older. She now does have 3 Disney type barbie dolls in the house. I guess I gave in. I agree with you about the differences in the barbies and Bratz too.

Alice's Mom, as far as thong diapers, I never understood why they made low rise pants for kids still in diapers. Hello, what is the point of that? Even when my DD is potty trained it looks like she is in training to be a plumber! She is too skinny as it is, she doesn't need that!
