DD's both have daily duties that they must do. They take care of their rooms, laundry and school stuff. This is not part of their chores, this is part of their own stuff that they must do. I have a huge white board in my kitchen (attractive huh?). and it's broken down to 3 parts, Before School, After School, Before Bed. For instance, Before School reads
Get Dressed
Laundry down
eat breakfast
brush teeth, wash face, hands
brush hair
lunch
snack
double check backpack
After school and Before Bed all have to do with daily stuff like that.
Then on our fridge, we have a smaller white board, that has their name on the top, and days of week down the left side. They have daily chores that they must do. These are chores that are done because they are part of the house, just like DH and I do.
They may be...Vacuum living room, feed cat, water dog, water plants, wipe bathroom counters etc... simple stuff
They get an allowance if I do not have to remind them to do ANY of these things. The first 2-3 weeks I would remind them to check the chart. They earn 10 cents for each chore off the list they do on time. After the 2-3 weeks, I stopped reminding them, and started doing the chore they were required to do for that day. I would wait until the NEXT day to do it...on that next day, after I did their chore, they OWED ME 10 CENTS...
I think by them having to pay me, they really get the hint that they've gotta do their stuff. Every night after they complete a chore, I cross it off their list.
This is how I do it...some people might not agree, but thats okay, they dont live in my house!
