I have always classified myself as one of those parents who dont let their kids watch too much TV... and when I do it's supervised video watching or PBS, and 9 times out of 10 it's something educational.

Well...
I was hanging pictures on the wall and having trouble with one rather large-ish one. Out of NOWHERE, my 4 year old son says, "You need to get a Hecules Hook by going online. They can hold 500 pounds and only leave a small home, and you get 14 free."

Another parent of the year award down the toilet.

Look on the bright side-he's has a good memory and can apply what he's learned!

I'm sure he read the ad in Scientific American or something like that.

Your parenting skills are most likely still intact. :rotfl:

That's cute. :rotfl:

He'll be fine watching TV, it hasn't hurt me. :rolleyes1

Yet another shining reminder that our children are paying attention and remembering the things we would least like for them to - and that they will repeat them without warning. Be thankful, if you're like the rest of us, there are far worse things he could have said at a much more awkward time.

Don't feel bad. The other day, DS stacked some blocks together and started 'shooting' at stuffed animals, etc making "Pzzt! Pzzt! Pzzt!" sounds. I asked him if it was a gun and he said no. I said well then what is it? He looks at me, grins and says "Izza fay-za!" (phaser). Oops.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I was obsessively overprotective about t.v. watching when my kids were young and also limited them to PBS and Disney/Veggie Tales tapes. One day my DS 3 (at the time) called me a "bilge rat". Thanks, Peter Pan!!

pittypat--I know what you mean. Sometimes, when I make an exclamation, I say "DUDE!"
DS has picked it up and now when he gets excited, he goes "Dood!" :thumbsup2 :lmao:

A simial situation happened with my DD3 that helped me stop shopping so much. After Christmas whe was playing with her cousin's toy cash register and said, "Here you are, ma'am, and thank you for shopping at Wal-mart!!!" I about lost it!!!!

Aww, that's okay. My daughter asks her dad to please go to "pbskids.org" everytime he's on the computer. Wonder where she got that...

When my niece was little she would remember phone numbers off the tv ads she saw & then call them. But she wasn't remember the toll free ones and she was only calling when my SIL would run in the basement or something like that. One of the "operators" actually called back to the house & told my SIL that this little girl kept calling there from this number (and not just that day). And when their phone bill came it was outrageous! I remember one time my Brother needed something and she politely told him "Well Uncle Bob all you have to do is call 888-555-1234 (whatever the number was) and the operators can help you".

There are certain shows that we do not let our DS4 watch. But we are not that limited. His big thing is when he sees a toy on t.v. He'll immediatley says, "ohhh, I want to get that" (it's a hook, line and sinker to me though) or he will ask me to go to that "dot com" site. He doesn't realize not everything he sees on t.v. has a web site :rotfl:
