Parasailing

It's up to the captain. If you have a calm day, then usually they will let you go up solo (if there are enough people going up as tandems for time reasons). We went tandem our first time, not knowing any better. The only other time we went tandem was because of winds. We're not light people and we were getting whipped around somewhat so it was good they required us to tandem.

I would book online in advance to be sure to get a spot. You never know if it's going to sell out...our August cruise wasn't sold out but the November one was completely sold out before we even docked.

We booked as soon as our reservation booking window opened so we could get the time slot we wanted. It will be billed to your onboard account so you may as well book in advance. You can cancel up to 3 days before your cruise I think.

As far as the single or tandem thing - I think that depends on a number of factors. Your individual weight(s), the wind for the day and the number of people on the boat. They only have so much time per excursion & I think they count on a certain number of those people going up tandem. They do not have time to do every single person alone. When we went it seemed like it was their call as to who went up with who.

Our highly unscientific results are --

Been to CC twice
Booked the CC parasail twice
CC parasail has twice been canceled due to high winds.

We're booked again for our upcoming Wonder cruise next month; we'll see if the third time's the charm.

I hope you can do it this time!!!

I hope you get to go this time...we have gone on several occasions here & there. I think earlier in the day offers better odds for some reason. The first time we ever parasailed was in Aruba where the trade winds shape the trees they blow so hard. They took us out on a small boat to another boat that was stopped out in the ocean somewhere. We transferred over to that boat which was the one with the hoist & equipment. It was so windy they didn't even MOVE the boat - this boat remained stationery and it just stayed there and they let us out & back in without going anywhere!! I wonder why they don't just do that on CC when it's that windy?!:confused3

One recommendation: Tip the boat staff before they harness you and try to go last (i.e. get on the boat first). I got a little bit more time up in the air than everyone else and was closer to the ship than others. I was by myself and gave them $15. We always give them at least a $10 tip but I've noticed no one else has tipped on our rides.

I have to say, that is not the point of tipping I didnt think, dont get me wrong I dont think you are wrong in any way but I dont know, I thought everybody would get the amount of time:confused3

This may be a silly questions, but curious. If you are unable to go to due weather.. is your money reinbursed?

Yes, when it was cancelled on our cruise, they abbounced it in the am that it was cancelled and our room had been credited, ultimatly your card.

Yes - We went out on the boat twice and even got up in the air but they refunded us our money and left an automated apology message on our voice mail.

Re the tipping - the excursion is expensive for how short it is but sadly NO ONE on my five trips tipped these guys. They work hard and watch out for our safety and I highly doubt they're getting much of the cost we pay. You are correct that it's not the point of tipping to get more time but I did want to let them know I appreciated their efforts and in return, they did provide me a better experience. I'm in the hospitality industry and tipping is a big appreciation feature that I use both professionally and personally when I travel. This is one of those situations whether you tip before or after the activity, it should be done IMHO.

To be honest I would have tipped them but NOT to get extra time, but to thank them for a good job. You said you appreciated their efforts and in return tipped them, I misunderstood as i thought you tipped them before you had your ride. I am just jealous you got a go,twice we went and never got up, at least we had a go on bannana boats before they stopped,

Cant wait to try again, thanks for all the info,
