Parasailing on CC??

I am thinking about trying the parasailing on Castawy Cay with my eight year old and had a few questions. First let me say that my son loves adventures. He's a huge rollercoaster fan and has no fear of heights. Parasailing is sonething I've always wanted to try so I thought it might be fun to try it together. First, I want to know, is it completely safe? and would we be harnessed together? Also, where do you take off and land? Has anyone done this with their young kids??

Hi Kelli,

I just did this on June 18th will my family. My dd9 and I went tandem, a harness for each of us. Dh is an engineer and felt this was very safe, much better than when he did it in Cabo. You take off and come back to the small boat that takes you out. I'm chicken of heights, but did not let on and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend it!

My dd9 LOVED parasailing! I did not let her know my fears prior or afterwards, lol!

There were eight people in our boat. All went tandem due to the winds. We felt the winds on the way out of the harbor but not parasailing. We chose the first appt. of the day for wind reasons -10:30 a.m.

The cost is $70.00 per person whether you are a child or adult. Ride itself is 8 minutes per tandem. We were in the boat approximately 45 to 50 minutes. Driver and operator were outstanding!

It's pricey, but we decided it was our opportunity to do it in the most safe of parasailing places.

Do it! Do it! Do it! Parasailing on CC was awesome. I did it last year for the first time ever and loved every second of it. It was the best $$ I spent on an excursion. The serenity of flying over the ocean 600 feet in the air was incredilbe. It was so peaceful and the water was sooooo beautiful from the air. Make sure you take a waterproof camera with you. I love looking at my pictures and reliving the moment. My DD8 is very excited that she gets to parasail this year. We are going to tandem together and we are both looking very forward to our adventure together.

Your child will love it - I took my daughter (10 yrs. old) when we cruised last week. She loved it so much she wanted to go again - of course at $70 this wasn't an option. We booked it ahead of time the very first day we could book excursions. (60 days out). I feel completely safe parasailing with the company that runs the excursion at Castaway Cay. The harnesses fit even small children. (My daughter only weighs about 55 pounds).

Mom2Belle&PeterPan - we also went at 10:30, but we must have been in the other boat. Ours was the one with the red, white and blue parachute.

Hi Mjasp and Mark_F,

I booked it 60 days out from our cruise the a.m. the DCL excursion office opened. This was because we were booking the
Anguilla dolphin excursion (which was wonderful for the 30 minutes of "actual" swimming with the dolphins, but not worth the total excursion) so we booked everything then.

Not sure when the parasailing excursions book up...I think they go quickly though.

Hope this helps! I'll write about our dolphin excursion soon. Not sure we would have done the Anguilla dolphin excursion, but our dd9 was thrilled. Probably would have gone to our local Southern CA Sea World in hind site...a better value and experience I believe.

My dd(12) and I went tandem, along with our ds (18) who went solo in April....it was great!!!!!!!! I was so scared, but when we got up there, it was such a rush........It's definitely worth it..... I had read to book the last group of the day on this website (3:00), as the launch site_for the boat is right next to the ship. That way you could pack up your belongings, and head for the ship before the parasail. This was great advice, as you only have a limited time on this paradise of an island, and you DON'T want to be spending it schelping from one end of the island to another.....A bit of advice, based on our experience - one (or maybe two) parasailing boats broke down during the day we were there, and by the time we were scheduled, the priority passengers were the ones who booked first. We had booked weeks ahead online --- those who signed up that day were sent away. A number of passengers were very disappointed. The parasail operators come from the closest island, a 20 minute boat ride (I forget the name of their island!). There is no quick fix if there is a problem - they had no choice. If at all possible, book any, and all excursions well before you board the ship. Otherwise, take a chance, and realize that there is a risk of lost time, and uncontrolled outcomes.

Just booked parasailing on CC for DD and myself. We were told that we had the last 2 open spots for the day (July 3 - 7 day Western Cruise)

Some of the boat drivers will drop you in the water for fun. When my dd and I went it was a challenge to see who would be "dipped" the best. It was so much fun!!!! You land right back on the boat where you took off. They dip you and then bring you back up enough to get back on the boat.

When we went a mom and her dd went first and the dd was terrified. Crying and screaming the whole way up. When they landed she was laughing and loved it!!!! There was another family on our boat and it ended up that one of the kids, although in their teens, was a bit too lite to go up by themselves so the little girl that had been terrified went with the person (can't remember if it was boy or girl). It was great!!!!

You land standing up on the platform on the back of the boat. (You take off sitting down w/ your legs out in front of you so that the harness won't ride up into an uncomfortable position) Once you are up in the air you are in a sitting position - kind of like sitting in a swing.

Thanks for that info, I was wondering if you just hung there or if you were in some sort of sitting position. Do they tell you to cross your legs (or give some sort of signal) if you want to come down?
