Don't fall in the water. Not sure if they reel you in or if you actually need to use your hands to come back down, if you do you may not be able to hold the camera as well as navigate down. Maybe someone who has been can help....
They reel you in and out...but theres always a possibility that you could get dipped when coming back in. When I went a woman had someone use her video camera to record her and her husband going up and back. It's also a bit wet on board..you can get alot of spary when going out and back.
The boat operators can either dip you or not dip you. They were having fun when I parasailed recently. Almost dipped me, although I wouldn't have minded. Then they dipped two pairs of moms with kids because the kids were hollering for it.
However, it is VERY wet on board. You get sprayed a lot because the boats go very fast and hit a lot of bumps. We were hanging on for dear life several times. The boat ride was more fun than the parasailing, even though that was a cool experience in itself. I had my digital camera with me and a disposable waterproof one for when I was in the air (just in case). It didn't take long for me to pack up my digital once we headed out. The only time you'd really be able to handle videotaping from the boat is when someone is being loaded on and off of the chute. Once the boat starts moving, you'll need at least one hand to hold on (at least with our drivers). They'll let you take things up with you, but they make it clear it's at your own risk. The parasailing part is very smooth, so there isn't much chance of you dropping the camera. However, you have to be willing to let go of your harness, which is slightly disconcerting when you're up that high
I agree with all the other posts that you need to worry about getting the unit wet. But if you really want to do this, I would recommend investing in a water proof case. I did a quick search on waterproof video camera cases and found this website. Cost for a universal bag aqua pack is $119.
Below are notes from the page on one of the units. There is a case for both types of camcorders, so you need to know which type you have and the size. Hope this helps!
