We have a parakeet and the jenday conure that is in my signature. I'm a bird person and since I've been unemployed, Bloo's vocabulary has grown tremendously since I talk to the birds whenever I'm passing them and sometimes I just hang out and talk to them.
Bloo's wings are not clipped and he comes out to fly every morning. He does a lap or two around my dining room and then he goes back into his cage. Igor's wings are clipped and he can come outside with me on the deck. His vocabulary is much smaller than Bloo's.
Bloo's cage is easier to clean, but neither one of them is really a problem. On a daily basis, we change his water and give him food ever few days. His cage is cleaned once a week. He doesn't eat treats. We've tried and he isn't interested. Igor likes the treats. He especially likes peanuts in their shells, cooked pasta and apples.
Both of our birds like to give kisses. Bloo loves everyone. Igor hates everyone except for my DS and I, but we are the ones who give him the most attention.
Igor is trained to poop off the back of my deck chair when we're outside and I put him back on his cage when it's time for him to poop inside. Bloo is not a trained pooper, but he isn't out of his cage that much.
As I write this, Bloo is singing. I love having him as background noise. We've had him for 4 years. He was my DD's 10th birthday present.
